Cheap Inline Fans

So I was at Home Depot the other day, and happened to stumble across a 12-inch diameter inline garage ventilation fan, rated at 1540 CFM for only 80 bucks, which is a freaking great deal considering an average price for 500-600 CFM CAN fan is a couple hundred dollars. The only problem is I need to converge the 12" diameter to a 6" cool tube- but can't seem to find a reducer that starts at 12" anywhere. Anyone have any ideas, or any other suggestions on cheaper fan ideas?

PC fans are not efficient for cooling an HPS bulb because they're designed to be used in a compact/small space (computer). IF space is not an issue for your fan, you are wasting money on having a design that optimizes space restrictions. I need at least 500CFM, there's no way a computer fan is putting out that kind of power for under 100 bucks.

Don't buy the 12". I buy the 6" ones from home depot. It's a complete waste of cfms wen u reduce that much!!!! Go get a physics book by friend to have some studying to do! The 6" are rated at 300cfm I believe and I stick 2 on each of my 1000w. Keeps em icy cold.

First of all, what "physics" are you referring to? It's simple- you decrease the diameter of your flow, and the velocity increases. Yes, you will lose a small amount of flow due to resistance, but I guarantee you it will still be at least 1,000 CFM...give me a formula to back up you're claim, because I don't think you know what you're talking about.

2nd, home depot doesn't have 6" fans that are anywhere near that power- once again, prove me wrong if you can.

Ok, if I don't find the reducer, I've got a solution.

Going to take this motor:

And attach a smaller fan blade and fitting to the motor, make my own 1/7 HP fan with a 6" diameter.

go to a metal shop and get a 2ft x 4ft sheet of alum. 26-28 gauge tin snip it into an ice cream cone shape and dill it, rivet it, and silicone it!! prob solved and you'll have 30 xtra bucks in it total!

I have a couple of the 6 inch duct fans from home depot cooling a 1000w and a 400w, the room never gets over 80 degrees. They are also pretty quiet and I paid like $25 a piece for them.
