Can't seem to get rid of the ISO..

Hey everyone,

I made a batch of ISO on Friday and I let it dry up with a fan all the way til Sunday, well I did the lighter test and it failed. Sooo I did the water bath method for a solid 2 hours, water temp was at 140. Did the lighter test and it failed.. So then I put it straight on the griddle at I would say 170-180 for a good 12 hours. I even whipped it and such just to get rid of the solvent (yes I know whipping is bad but at this point I'm more so confused why I can't get rid of the solvent..) so after 12 hours, do the test, and guess what? It failed... SOOO now it's Monday, put the bitch back on the griddle directly for a solid 8 hours. Whipped it like someone trying to rob me. After 8 fucking hours, it still fails! What the hell is going on here?! I've never had this problem before! I even took a video to show how bad it's failing. This was recorded on Monday night after the 20+ hours and shit.

What's the lighter test? Thc is flammable btw

holy matchstick you weren't kidding, do you vac by any chance? even at the mason jar hand pump level or is this griddle tek?

I have a hand pump I was thinking of trying out. This was done at first as a natural evap, when it failed the test it became the griddle tech. Twenty hours should of done it. I thought maybe water got in but even then it should evap out.. Maybe purge very small amount and see what happens..

do you got a woman in your life with a set temp food dehydrator, griddle tek + fan = griddle TEK which is close to a set temp dehydrator. I dunno about natural evap, too many climactic factors and straight griddle has a way of stratifying things that requires thin film.

99% ISO, right?

And imo, oil burns.

I use the smell test....If I can still smell the alcohol, keep going. Once I can no longer smell the ISO, I let it go another 15 minutes or so. Done.

the lighter test (as far as I know) is when you pass your lighter over and over again threw your dab, you see how the oil reacts. Any popping sounds or fire balls.

Yup 99% ISO used. That's how I usually do it too, but then I heard of the lighter test so I gave it a go. I usually do a natural evap, once I can't smell it,I do a hot water bath for 20-60 mins depending on quantity. I'm thinking I might of got water somehow in it or maybe dust, but those extra purge times should of rid that I thought. Maybe not the dust part, but I find it hard for dust to do that. So far I scraped everything and debating what to do next.. Damn you lighter test lol, maybe i'm doing the test wrong..

I think maybe you went too hot on the temps. I use a totally different method but I never go over 115F. Anything around those ranges you said and I get "perma-goo".

Trust me,I know about the temps and such, the only reason I went so high is to get rid of the solvent I couldn't get rid. 115 is what most do when they use a vac. 140 without a vac I hear. I usually go 120 but this time more to get rid of residual ISO.

Surprisingly it isn't stuck in a goo stage, still solid like.

Ya unless I was doing a huuge batch, my iso oil never took that much purging and messing with. I know you know what yer doing so I have no idea man. If ya lived closer I would say bring it over and throw it in the vac lol

So I think I had to much oil in my dish, I removed some of it, purged again and finally success (so far!). Moral of the story basically is, if your dish to small, do a smaller run lol. I'll do a lighter test tonight to show how it reacts now.

War that doesn't look like a fail test to me. Like Qwiso and a few guys said oil burns. The fail tests I've seen flashed or flared up almost instantly. It looks to me more like you are simply getting the oil to light on fire, which will happen. I've also seen a few test vids where the oil didn't flare up, but rather sparked, and some where the oil sizzled like putting a drop of water into a hot frying pan. With the amount of heat and processing you've added the oil may never get hard, but it shouldn't have anything left in it.

Hmmm that's good to know thunder thanks! The oil did sizzle a bit it seemed like didn't it? I really appreciate everyones input and help! Have you guys tried the lighter test on your concentrates?

Surprisingly the oil is pretty solid,I can hold it but then a few moments its melting already lol.

Ya I def do the lighter or dab test. With a vac tho, ya pretty much know when it's done...

I havn't done the lighter test on any of my recent batchs cus I havn't felt the need. I've been working about the same amount of material each run, and treating it the same way each time, and getting similar results each time. I had one batch of 3rd wash oil that had some sizzle to it, so I said no more 3rd wash, and I tossed it into my wash alcohol to redisolve it. I keep a container in my freezer with some alcohol I use to rinse out the extra oil from the bottom of all my dishs.

A guy I know traded me .5g of some BHO the other day for some of my oil, and i flame tested that before I dabbed any. It came out clean, just some bubble and melt, but has a weird taste to it. I don't know if its just the strain or something to do with the butane. Its not a down right bad taste, or solventy taste, but kinda a petroleum sort of after taste. Its supposed to be LA Confidential so maybe thats just the terp profile.
