Canna ph down grow

hi, how much ml/liter ph down you use?
  • Add pH adjuster in very small doses (5ml) to the nutrient tank, checking the value of the pH level until desired pH level is achieved (6.2)
at the moment I need like 18 ml of ph down to bring down 2 litres of water (with nutrients) to ph 5.8 and tbh this seem way too much from my point of view, but maybe I'm wrong, so I ask :)
thanks a lot

You are talking about over 1/8th cup per US Gallon.. I tried to look up Canna pH Down Grow and I think it is Nitric Acid. Yes that would be too much Nitric acid although I am not fond of Nitric acid+plants. I fully understand that it is acid rain and blah blah.. I take my Nitrates very seriously though.

edit: 1/8th cup not 1/4th.. corrected

You must have very hard water if it takes 18mL of 38% nitric acid per 2L. I have hard water and end up using about 20mL of 10% nitric acid per 2L.

It's hard to argue though if that's what it takes to make your pH right. The way to lower N in that case is to use less calcium nitrate, which you don't have control over... Is the high N causing an issue?

hi everyone, thx for answering, at the moment I can't afford a water filter, so I'm using cheap bottled water for my plants, I dont use tap water to avoid chlorine.
I am using a digital meter to check ph (PH-80), I even tried a recalibration but it was already accurate.
I had some ph issues a while ago, that's why there are a few marks on the leaves but after that, I'm ok as far as I know.

wait that bottle water is Mesuring a pH value of eight?

When I use pH down I like to dilute it first in some water. Maybe 2 tbsp of it (arbitrary number, I just pour a bit into a small cup) and then fill the rest with water. Apparently it's safer to handle and doesn't sink to the bottom causing elements to patricipate out of the solution. Then I just pour a bit of the stuff in and stir, it takes a few tries to get to know hom much to pour in.

Try doing that and also stir well(!) and check the pH after some time.

check ph after some time? I dont keep water mixed with nutrients around, I mix what I need, use it and trash leftovers, you think I should keep leftovers to check ph after a day or something like that?

Hey man, sorry my fault, I thought you were doing a hydroponics grow.

But I mean that pH readings are best done after some time 5mins or so, to allow the acid to do it's thing.

And what I meant is that I dilute some pH down with some water in a seperate jug, that way when I fill my eg. watering can with water, I just add a bit of the pH down from the jug into the watering can.

If the bottled water is ultra clean the pH reading can't be taken with a low cost tool. Actually it isn't recommended to use a pH tester with ultra clean water at all.

Edit: I mean you have to add something first to get an accurate pH reading.

I'm glad this is the newbye section, I feel like an idiot, on the web the canna ph down grow it's stated as a 38% nitric acid solution, I just checked my ph down bottle AND THE SOLUTION IS 3%, I have no idea why the ph down grow solution I have is SO much different from what the web state, I dont even know why I checked my bottle, something was off, so I tried.
Many thanks everyone for your help, at least now I know I'm not doing something wrong.
Happy growing and have a nice day :)
