Canna Bio Terra Plus Soil Mix

I'm currently doing a soil experiment in my 5th grow to try to figure out that very question, I'm trying different mixes of BioTerra plus and Fox Farms Ocean Forest, as well as straight BioTerra and FF.

The canna range is very expensive. Specifically canna boost. The results though are fucking second to none. The amount of resin on the buds is spectacular. It really is an amazing product, sure as far as value per dollar there will be better products. Right now I am growing one plant all canna products and fuck man its looking so good and on previous plants I have grown the canna really makes a difference.

Canna is also one of the only nutes to actually pass the label test. Practically zero quality control exists from other manufacturers. I have seen the tests with my own two eyeballs. I use bio-canna in b`cuzz soil. Black and green bag, slightly better than sunshine #4 in terms of the clay block effect when it gets too dry.
To the person about to use BioTerra out of the bag...please stop before you really F* your clones up. The water retention in this soil is way way way too good. I would suggest you cut it at least 50% with perlite or higromite or something. I have had burning issues when trying to transplant to it straight w/o watering, its wet enough out of the bag. I have had over-watering issues with every clone I have placed in anything increase in moisture at all out of the bag...BioCanna is heavy soil. You really need to be aware of this issue when dealing with the soil. Its like a mother effing ShamWow.

yah I got fungus gnats with canna bioterra
but that's the nature of rich peat to have gnat larvae. I use bt & not an issue.
Some growers find Bioterra a little light
and add compost/topsoil.
I used it straight in smartpot and got a good yield.........

Thanks for the heads up guys! I actually just put two clones in straight canna bio and thought man I should do 2/3 canna bio and 1/3 FFOF and didn't move the other two, now I'm reading a suggestion of 50/50 mix. It's nice to read that my concerns where warrented and others have the same concerns.

Im using straight BT in 5-7 gallon smart pots, some 10s. It's been a great medium, like has been said holds shittons of water. I noticed that the chart Canna gives you is kinda off. At least for me. Im like 4-5 weeks into flowering and I've had to step up to 2-3x the recommended max dosage of Bioflores. I'm also using about 20-25 ml bioboost a gallon. Looking like great results!

They also said 8-16 ml of bioflores, and my plants started having serious deficiencies using 16 ml a gallon. The chart from Canna says on the bottom for beginner guidelines only. I don't consider myself a beginner.
Just use boost for a foliar. 25ml boost 25ml bioboost to a gallon of ro water. You will get amazing results and save a lot of $$

I love the CANNA TPP. My next grow will be with the TPP but I'm going full organic with a new lineup from a company called: TEA-BAGGERS-ORGANICS. I met with the owner this past summer on his ranch and was completely blown away with the results!!! His products should be at your local grow shops soon If not already. Look for great products from this company in the near future.

I use Canna Terra Pro and I love it. I mix it with 40% perlite and a small bag of worm castings, there is only 1 problem with using a high peat moss based soil and that is fungus gnats. Just make sure you flush with Neem before planting and just before flowering and you will have gorgeously tastey, sticky herb.

Hi headworm, nice mix, i use a similar mix and also am just trying the canna range, like it so far. As far as fungus gnats go, I know how much of a pest they can be as Ive had them myself before. I use bacillus thuringiensis, a bacteria that makes the larvae of the gnats get sick and stop eating, thus dying eventually. Theres a bunch of companies that sell it under various brand names, I have one called gnatrol, but the brand doesnt matter. In fact, you can just use those little donut shaped things they make for keeping mosquito larvae out of kiddie pools and bird feeders, they sell them at home depot and the like. Neem I think works well as a foliar spray when you have a mite problem, but to the best of my knowledge it has antiseptic properties. I know it is used as soap and tooth paste by some Eastern cultures. This means if you treat your soil with it you could be killing some of your beneficials, and if youre using the bio canna line and adding castings then you are definitely working with beneficial microbes. Just something for your mind to chew on. hth

As it was explained to me, those fruit gnats are the top of culture train in your dirt. The gnats don't cause any harm to plants (although they are a nuisance) and removing them is removing the top of the food chain in the culture your trying to build with an organic setup.

Old post but what the hay. I've run BTPlus straight out of the bag, and had success. That said, hella problems with gnats, and overwatering. But I just watered really carefully, lots of BT, and by the end they needed water every few days. At first it was every 10-14 days which freaked me the eff out and I did lots of foliar feeding to compensate. This time I'm going 30% (grade #3) perlite with some added humisoil and granular myco. 50% perlite might be best, dr von dank thinks so.

Yes, you are right. gnats suck and can get out of hand- makes for a very lame grow room. Go Gnats or Gnatrol will take care of em fast.
I have used both Canna soils, both the Bio Terra and the Terra Pro Plus. they are both very good. they are especially porous and retain water well. You do however need to break it up by hand thoroughly. Add extra perlite no matter what the bag tells you. Time released nutes and all that jazz written on the bag, well i wouldn't read too into that. Add your usual amendments: guano, blood and bone mean, etc. For veg it makes growing pretty effortless. But if you are using it for flowering (which is expensive, personally i use it for veg only and something more cost effective like Roots Organic for flowering) dont put too much stock in the soil alone and use a regular feeding program.
