Burglar's relative says: "He could have used a warning shot first..."

Sounds like they were trying to run according to the undercover that was watching it go down. Go ahead and talk about gunning down unarmed people like killing is something to be celebrated. If you go out of your way to shoot someone who is clearly not a threat to you, then there is something wrong with you.
/shrug

The account I read is that when confronted by shotgun dude, they moved toward him like they didn't think he would actually shoot.

They were wrong, and the world is a better place for it...

i agree with the law that lets me protect my house ... i don't want my neighbor shooting people in my yard or anyone killing a car thief unless its a carjacker threatening your life

how exactly is a car thief threatening your life in any way?
Might not be life directly, but the ability to commute to work.
Can't get to work, no paycheck.
It's hard to judge when one is not there IRL, easy to judge after the fact.

Some car theives hijack cars and kill the owners

If you shoot a car thief who is not threatening your life, your commute to work will be considerably shortened to the prison laundry.

I thought the name rang a bell, so I looked it up. I remember that case. Some people pick up a gun and think they're John Wayne. That guy came out there with that shotgun looking for trouble. He became an aggressor the moment he left his house and pointed a gun at people outside without any clear risk of severe bodily harm or death. However, it is vastly different from pointing a gun at someone who is already inside your home.
california's lethal force laws permit the use of deadly force in defense of yourself, your property, and others, AND their property.

somebody breakin into your neighbor's house is just cause for delivering a lead milkshake.

True, it comes down to the life threat.
Better to grab a camera than shoot a person in the back.

Unless you a govt employee, then you can shoot a dog, person, or whatever the hell you want when raiding a home.
Even the wrong home.

Nice to see you tonight.

What is the little boy crying tonight?
Racism, gun nut, he-man-woman-hater, old geezer, or are just insulting the intelligence of those who dare to differ with your opinion?

you can shoot a bandito when he is trying to commit a felony (any felony) which includes theft over $25, burglary, vehicle theft, assault, robbery, or any of a variety of crimes which are punishable
by a year in prison or more.

you can also bust a cap at a fleeing criminal who you have witnessed engage in a felony.

ohh snap.

It said one ran in the same general compass heading at an angle. If someone has a gun on you and there's no good cover, then your best shot is at an angle on their trigger hand side. It makes you harder to track. I saw no indication the dude was getting charged at.

Yeah, I could have shot that kid carrying a pot plant of mine and been in the clear. That doesn't make it right. I feel like I shouldn't have to tell someone who smokes weed that there are more than a few fucked up laws.

shooting someone who steals the $26 pile of old tires off your lawn and flees is not sensible, kynes.

Well, it is getting late for this old geezer.
In a few hours I need to awake, pee, put firewood in the stove, and wander about the house from room to room.

Good night, "Little Boy Who Cries Wolf".
Tell mommy (your wife) to leave the night light on so the monsters don't cause you nightmares.

Was he supposed to wait until the guy got close?

Used kung-fu?

Fuck that.

I'm not going to shoot a motherfucker for property....more than likely...not for any major concern over the thief, mind you, but just to avoid the g'damn legal hassle. However, I've got NO problem whatsoever for those that would, in jurisdictions where it is indeed legal to do so.

I would rather see dead thieves than ripped off citizens.

Hell, the g'damn government will send men with guns to try and lock you in a cage if THEY don't get "THEIRS", and if you resist, they'll shoot your ass dead. If it's good enough for the government, it's good enough for citizens trying to defend themselves, their families, and their possessions.

since your pot plant is technically a "felony" under federal law you have no right to defend your dope.

you DO have the right (and to my mind the obligation) to drop the hammer on a carjacker, armed robber, mugger, rapist, car thief or burglar trying to jack your neighbor's shit.

i would hope they would do the same for me.
