If someone comes into my home, unannounced, through a window; then I'm not going to ask him if he intends to rape me, kill me, or just steal my tv. There is a very convenient way to show someone that you wish to enter their house and mean no harm: knock. That's not to say I'd start firing blindly at a silhouette, target verification is still important.

As I said, target verification is important, and I don't think that an elderly neighbor who I visually recognize (Not a likely threat.) and a large man who is not likely to be senile or there to cook breakfast are really equivalent. If you get shot entering your own house, then your family needs more weapon training and really shouldn't have access to the thing.

Joe has no reason to believe he's in danger if he's next door. That just makes joe a danger to those around him. Not to mention terrifyingly irresponsible.
but what if bucky locks himself out, wearing a ski mask with his axe in his hand, and is pounding angrily at "'Joe Horn's" front door screaming that Joe is a racist, and demanding "Justice For Deyfon"?

I thought the name rang a bell, so I looked it up. I remember that case. Some people pick up a gun and think they're John Wayne. That guy came out there with that shotgun looking for trouble. He became an aggressor the moment he left his house and pointed a gun at people outside without any clear risk of severe bodily harm or death. However, it is vastly different from pointing a gun at someone who is already inside your home.
just the fact that you acknowledge a line rather than actively work to blur it is enough for me.
