The Untrainable Green Crack

GC wk10.jpg

I think I may be out of options on this girl. She has long internodal spacing and a reputation for a big flowering stretch so I'm concerned about running out of real estate. My first attempt at training her resulted in her completely breaking off two growth shoots during the night. Her will to straighten is high. I've broken branches while bending, but never seen one that bent and then later broke itself off.

Last night I super-cropped her as gently as I could so as not to break off the stems completely. Stems were bent over at 90 degrees and crimpled enough to allow a few drops of sap to leak out. 14 hours later I found them looking like this. The black mark is where the stem was damaged during super-cropping.

So I think all I can do is keep pruning her back. I'm going to allow for 3-4 feet of growth during flowering and try to not let her get above that by end of July. The last time I had one with internodal spacing this far was a grapefruit that produced lots of small airy buds. Not what I want but an outstanding smoke anyway.

Busy week - foliar applications of Actinovate and Azamax. Brewed up an AACT from my fresh worm castings and applied it yesterday. Seems like the myco fungi is biting and everything is starting to get on track. Tonight may be the last night I run heaters until September. Few more pics from the greenhouse today.

Second to last pic is The OG #18 from above. Rumored not to do well in high heat. Uh oh.

Last pic is Tora Bora and friend. She looks to have the same structure as the LA Confidential. No training this one but won't get terribly big anyway.

Great thread Bugeye!!! I was curious as to what your growing space dimensions are?
Thanks Breakz! My gh is 14' X 20' and a product of my water collection needs. I estimated my seasonal water needs and then did some calculations based on average seasonal rainfall in my area to determine the roof size needed to collect all the rainwater needed for a 6 plant grow. Carrying water to my plants is like carrying water to the top of a 5 or 6 story building so I don't like it when we have extended dry spells!

Your gals are looking great this year, Bugeye. Great thread!
If you don't mind me asking, did you get the green crack beans locally?

Thanks Exactie! The GC is the feminized seed form from Cali Connect. I've never grown anything from CC before so I'm curious to see how she turns out. She certainly has my attention trying to keep her from overgrowing my space. Would love to see what she would look like if allowed to go big outdoors.

Yeah for sure, I will have to stay tuned to see :bigjoint:I've seen some finished product from CC up in Boulder that looked really good. The way she is growing is def. impressive. Already a beast, but I bet she would be a SUPER BEAST if allowed to go big outdoors! Good luck this season man, although I don't think you really need it lol

Thaks duudical! I've been hanging out there much of the afternoon getting branches tied up. Feels like they are starting to really take off. Heading back up shortly for a cigar, rum, and a little Bubblegummer. Hoping for a nice sunset.

I take all luck offered! Good luck on your grow as well, gotta feeling you'll get them squared away in short order.

Thank you. I really appreciate you helping me out. So nice to have someone with experience/wisdom helping me out, as opposed to trouble shooting myself. Experience helps a ton.

I meant to ask, what size pots are those, and store-bought or home made? Also, are those moth balls I see sitting on them?

Those are 60 gallon smart pots. First time using them. Those are golf balls! No purpose, sometimes we set up a slingshot made of surgical tubing out on the deck and try to hit the neighbors house.
