Blunt's first DWC (closet) grow

Hey guys, just wanted to give an update. I went ahead and purchased some Mylar for flowering, Technaflora Sugar Daddy for some food and some Cal Mag+ since I'm running distilled water. The roots are looking better so I skipped the Hygrozyme, I'm just gonna stick with the Aqua Shield for now.

Here's (more than) a few updated pics. I got tired of using my piece of crap camera phone so I pulled out my D-SLR Nikon for some higher quality pictures, I forgot how fun this damn thing is. I'm pretty impressed by the size of the plant and the roots for it's age but more than anything the stalk. This beauty is looking like it's going to be thick by the time it's done. Anyways, here ya go!

The plant looks very healthy, that being said i do see a tiny bit of root gunk forming there in the last pic. I recommend picking up some 30% or higher food grade H202, and giving her a 2ml/gal dose of it whenever you see it. Dont add aquashield while the h202 is present. Usually takes 24-36 hrs for h202 to break down, then you can add some AS. Or mix up a good concentration h202 bath, dip her roots in it for a min or so then back in the res. Other than that looks good.
When working with small spaces i would flower sooner rather than later, esp if you dont know how the strain performs.
Keep it green buddy.

so you use aquashield too eh? I know hellraizer uses it in his hydro but I can't bring myself to put anything that resembles shit in my hydro. I've read it's great in the res but just can't bring myself to try it .Nice looking plant also.

Thanks for your insight Bigz. I plan on switching my bulbs and going to flower on Thursday when I hit week 4. I also noticed the same thing in the last picture and honestly I had to go back and look at the roots again because I didn't notice it to be that bad when I took the picture. There is some brown but for some reason the picture brings it out alot more but either way I guess I should have bought the hygrozyme today.

I saw Aquashield was recommended by a respected grower on RIU so I figured it would be a good way to start. I gotta get something else to go along with it but I'll probably go pondzyme to save some money. What do you use for your roots, DB?

good question since I just ran out of great white. at the moment nothing. ro water, sensi grow, pro-tekt and h202. I can keep my temp right by adding a frozen bottle of water every 2 days or so (igloo rules). I was just wondering what the aquashield does, is it like a beneficial bacteria tea. I don't understand just what it is. I know someone that used in in soil but I'm just weird about putting things like that in my hydro, I TRY to maintain a sterile res which sometimes seems to be a hard thing to do even with temperatures right :/

From my understanding it is similar to Hygrozyme, it protects the roots and the rez with a beneficial bacteria that is supposed to keep the bad bacteria from occuring. I know Hygrozyme promotes that it will eat the bad bacteria and turn into sugar for your plant to eat, not sure if AS does that. Fun fact though If I'm not mistaken, Aquashield was originally called Hydroguard but had some problems with Hygrozyme so they changed it to Aquashield. The biggest difference that I am aware of is the damn price, the local hydroponic store priced it at $34 for 1 liter! I stick to the frozen igloo packets as well, usually do them twice a day. I'm waiting until the time is right to purchase a yetti cooler though so the res temp isn't a big issue..I think they keep their temperature consistent for 140 hours.

I'm about to bust out the big igloo and chiller myself, can't wait till winter again. That's def the best time to grow indoors.

right on, nice growth for that time period, the liquid karma certainly left it ugly though.

pondzyme and aquashield together. seedling two weeks after popped and one that is 8 days in veg

Nice pics! I'm going to have to get some pondzyme to add with the AS to help with my little browning. I checked it out again, it doesn't stink at all but does resemble "snot".

I just added in some Sugar Daddy, damn that shit is DARK. Hope it doesn't stain my roots!

yes the lk is very dark, i use less than half of reccommended amount. they were very white two days ago before i changed res.

ok I'm in, just came from my fave hydro store (hey J!) and he was out of what I was after (aquashield) yet again! it seems like he's out of the stuff I go in for a lot! ah well, he gets it for me pretty quick if he doesn't have it, so anyway he suddenly realizes he was just given a quart sample of aquashield and now I'm the proud owner! free samples rule!

Db, I use the aquashield too. Its basically a compost tea already brewed, also it is the main ingrediant in the heisenburg tea.

hey bigz, I know it used to be an ingredient way back, thought he revised it to something else though. I use extreme gardening tea brews and may try some of that in the res. I don't really have an issue with temperatures but want to make sure my rootzone is cool/healthy. I just don't like putting strange shit in my res, it goes back to the time I was using voodoo juice and sensizyme , this left me with issues. enough that I quit using AN.

Quick little update. I realized the AS has to be applied every 4-7 days so I did it last night and the roots look great today, less brown "snot" than yesterday. I also held my nuts and fimmed as well so we'll see how it works out. Plan on flipping to flower Friday or Saturday to give it a little extra time to generage the cal-mag and sugar daddy along with regenerate from the fimming.
