Search subcool's super soil on youtube and you'll see how to mix large batches of soil. Wheel barrels, tarps and baby pools are good tools.

Lay down a bigass tarp. I add peat and lime first and make sure to get it moistened real good with a wetting agent. Add perlite(wear a respirator mask) , spray it down again and finally add compost and amendments. Mix it up a bit with a hoe. Then I just lift up the sides of the tarp and roll the mix from one side to the other for awhile.

After all that I place the soil in big old chicken feed bags and tie them off. Before I use it I give em a quick roll in the yard for a final mix.

I mixed a bunch of soil up yesterday on a tarp in the backyard. It was a chore but I now have five bags of soil and a bunch of full pots. I still have enough material to mix another ten bags or so and will probably end up mixing it the same way as well. I need the exercise and I really don't want to have a mixer sitting around that I'll only use a couple times a year.

wasnt it hard to mix with such a small volume?
Im not exactly sure what you mean by that but, Here is what i did i used a 5 gallon bucket to measure everything it is 0.68 cuft so i just called it a half cuft.. i would fill it to about 2 inches from the rim with compost and dump it into my 45 gal pot then the same amount with the pro mix/rice hulls. (so that is 3 buckets of base soil witch equals 1.5 cuft witch equals 3/4 cup of nutes ) then added 3/4 cup of each amendment and mixed by hand being sure i got all the way to the bottom then just repeated the steps above til full.

5-45 gallon smart pots-225 gallon = 31cu ft = 1.1 cu yd 1 pot= 6 cuft

10 cuft horse compost-17 5 gal buckets
10 cuft pro mix bx
10 cuft rice hulls only used about 7

NUTES - 5 pounds = 15 cups started running low on last pot so added extra compost
1/2 cup to 1 cu ft
kelp meal, alfalfa meal, neem meal, fish bone meal, crab meal, gypsum, azomite,

5 gall bucket = 0.6 cuft / 5=3cuft used to measure everything out
