Best soil choice from Lowes or Home Depot?

You can't afford not to use Fox Farm or the like. I've been down this path before my freind. If you want quality product you need quality soil. It would be like trying to prepare a 5 star gourmet meal with McDonalds ingredients.

Ok, I see everyone's point about starting with quality soil. I purchased a big bag of Fox Farm's Ocean Forest soil today from a local shop. My next question would be how to stretch it out? Meaning, I have large bags of peat moss, perlite, and vermiculite. How could I add those (and in what proportions) to my soil to make it go further?

Perhaps 30% ff soil, 25% peat moss, 20% vermiculite, 20% perlite? What do you think?

ttt for some more suggestions. Growing more than 10 plants (each in a 5 gal bucket) will get crazy expensive if you're paying $18/bag for fox farms soil.

if you're going on good sized grow, and i consider 10 plants a good sized grow, you really have to question buying the high grade prepared soils
at that point, it becomes much more cost effective to read up on the many excellent soil recipes over in the organic forum, then buy up raw materials at the best deal you can find(normally locally), and mix your own
i do micro grows so soil cost is less of a issue for me

Im glad to hear that you picked up some Fox Farm.

I promise, you will not be disapointed :hump:

I personally dont dilute my Fox Farm with perlite or anything else.

100% Fox Farm soil.

And, it only takes a few bags to fill 10 five gallon buckets. We are talking about less than $100 worth of soil, thats not crazy expensive. :peace:

p.s. Tell them you only want to pay $15 per bag. Thats what I did and it worked, maybe it will work for you too!!!
