perlite? in dwc go hydroton or lava rocks in 3" pots all your doing is supporting the plant the roots are in water so even 2" will do perlite is v messy and encourages algae good style try to stay away if possible i know hydroton isnt cheap but it can be resused crop after crop with just a nice bleach water wash

I do my seedlings in jiffy and place them in the hydroton and that works fine, the only issue I have been having is when they get to tall they pop out of there holes in the container lid so i will address that next grow.

yeah you can use gravel but hydroton is nice and light gravel tends to restrict the roots slightly and a dwc can be made very easy from a rubbermaid tub and an aquarium airpump and air stone heres one i knocked up in 5 mins for my fridge mine is only small but you get the ideaP6260034.jpgP6260035.jpg

Schultz Aquatic Plant soil works really well; its basically little ceramic rocks. You can find it at home depot too. I have a 6' sativa and two 1' clones in Schultz Aquatic soil. And it's only seven bucks for a huge bag.
