maybe the starter, (or whatever its called)

does the lamp fully turn on? if not then its because it doesnt manage to give the bulb enough electricity to start. ending up trying again and again.

You might be experiencing voltage surge (if it has a breaker or relay) and it could be sending to much current so it trips the relay/breaker. Otherwise you might have a short in the power supply. It would short when enough current is reached (2mins). Inspect wires. Clean connections. Try different outlet. I'd take it apart, but thats just me......They are very basic on the inside. If you have electrical experience they are not hard to diagnose. Otherwise send it in or get another one. If it makes you feel any better, on Monday my work's $50k power supply blew up on me. 640A at 1kv blew a solid 3" thick brass shunt plate off it's bolts on a server rack and flying by my head:clap: R.I.P Sorenson, you will be missed!

HPS bulbs last forever (24,000 hours) but there are a few that go out prematurely. Could also be a frequency mismatch between the ballast and the bulb. Most electronic ballasts operate at high frequencies and if you use a 50/60hz bulb it could kill it pretty quick.
