Bagseed Grow - Test Run

Ok., I have two of the four seeds in dixie cups under the HPS. The third seed has cracked and there is a tiny tap root. I'm going to give it another day before i transfer it to the nursery. The fourth seed is either still sleeping or it died in the womb. I'm hoping it's just shy. ::crossing fingers::

This will be a test grow before I commit my quality genetics. I have 10 blackjack seeds and 20 mystery seeds (they were on sale).

Here I go. :D

The soil is a local nursery blend that is ph balanced and perfect for growing Cannabis. I have the FoxFarm trio but I won't do the nutrients until two weeks into the grow. I plan on doing an LST grow. These might be Sativas so I'll need to do some serious training. The last time I was gifted some seeds they actually were Sativas and over-ran my grow area. It was a pleasant nightmare.

The third seed popped! The fourth one didn't make it. It's in that little cannabis grow in Heaven. So they are under the HPS and covered loosely with a plastic bag to hold in the moisture.

It's not humidity that I have to worry about. It's the lack thereof. It's hovering at 15% and the temps are running between 75-80 during the light cycle and 67-72 during lights out. They haven't peeked their little heads out of the ground yet but I'm sure it's going to happen in the next day or so.

I have two popping their little heads out. One already has it's first set of leaves. The third one is still under the soil. I'm getting a bit worried but I'll wait. Wish I knew it's genetics. Oh well, this will be fun. :D I'm having a little problem with the soil. It's not absorbing water very well. I think I solved the issue by using a spray bottle. I don't want to saturate the soil but it would be nice to see it soak in rather than run off the sides. I hope this isn't going to be a major issue in the future. I'll have to check into getting some FoxFarm soil rather than the nursery soil they made for me. I was assured it was perfect for Cannabis growing. We'll see.

Tragedy. And. I'm a dumb ass.

Of the three seeds that sprouted only one survived. All three seeds would have survived if I had realized a big mistake I made before planting them. When I was germinating the seeds, two of them sprouted first. I was worried the third wouldn't make it. I decided to continue germinating the third seed at the advice of individuals on this board (thank you individuals). The third seed popped. The first two seeds had a two day head start. I put them right in the soil and started watering with plain water. This is where I made my mistake. Why? Because I'm a dumb ass. The soil I use is from a local nursery. They told me it was perfect for medical cannabis grows. The ph was perfect and the mixture was rich and beautiful. Here is where my dumb assery comes in. I stored the soil in my car. Over the summer. In New Mexico. I wasn't going to grow until the temps dropped so I bought the soil when it was on sale (kind of expensive). My grow area is a closet and I didn't want it just sitting around. I didn't want to store it outdoors because I was worried about pests getting into it. My brilliant idea was to store it in the car to keep it pest free and out of sight. Perfect, right?

My brilliant idea completely sterilized the soil. The heat in my car over the summer must have been literally Hellish. When i realized this I mixed water with very diluted nutrients and started misting the soil with it. That's how I planted my third seed once it popped (once again, thank you individuals on this board) using the nutrient water. Here is the result:

mybaby2.jpgmybaby1.jpg

The other two were dead by the time I realized what had happened. I threw out the old soil and drove to the nursery and purchased some FoxFarm Ocean Forest. I'm waiting until this little baby is strong enough and then I'm going to transplant. Knowing my luck (and what I deserve), the one that survived will end up being a male. :p

She's (hopefully) coming along. Despite the effort I went to trying to kill it. Poor little baby. I'm doing better by her. I transplanted her into FoxFarm Ocean Forest and bought some RO water to keep the ph in check. so far the run off is staying around 6.6 - 6.8

The big (potential) lady is doing well. I plan on doing a transplant on Thursday to give the girls room to breathe. I cracked another seed (actually two) and one sprouted. She is doing quite well too. Thank you Ocean Forest. I will start nutes after the transplant at 1/4 strength. Also, the older plant is starting to smell. I love that smell. :)

I just finished transplanting the babies into 5 gallon pots. Now I start the LST'ing. I ordered a 250w HPS bulb. I found out my 150w lighting system is actually a 250w lighting system. I don't know why the company I bought it from sent me the wrong wattage. I emailed them and explained the mistake and asked if I owed them any money. No reply. Well, I made an attempt to be honest about it. It almost seems like I stole the damn thing. Anyway, being the good Christian that I am, I tried to make things right. If they don't want to deal with it then fine. I tried. I ordered the bulb from them to keep karmic balance. I feel a little better.

I'm planning on going another month into veg before I switch to 12/12. I'll need the time to train the plants with some LST'ing.

Well LST is out. I transplanted and watered with nutes and left the babies alone for 24 hours. I wanted to give them a chance to get used to the new digs without my poking and prodding around. Wow, big mistake. The plants grew almost a complete foot in height. So... I waited too long to LST. I have a 400W HPS light system on the way and a 250w bulb for my old HPS light. So I should have enough light to penetrate the canopy and provide good lighting for two plants. I finally got dialed in on what the plants like and don't like and they are looking great. I'm really surprised how much they've turned around. The Ocean Forest and the FF trio sure helped. I've got the ph to around 6.4 - 6.8 solid. It's not deviating outside of that range.

Now, my problem is my camera. It will not download onto any computer in the house. I'm pretty pissed. I had to use my computer camera to get a half-way decent pic.

I have the camera partially working. I'm still working on it. Hopefully by next week I'll have some really good pictures to show. They are both looking healthy. The mystery seed is outgrowing the bagseed by leaps and bounds. I'm fearing a Sativa has invaded my humble grow closet. I watered and nuted today. 1 tbs. FF Grow Big and 1 tbs. Brer Rabbit black strap molasses. 3 liters of water for each plant ph balanced to 6.3. R/O was 6.5 and 6.6. (must keep eye on that).

I had to raise the light last night. The tops were getting far too close for comfort. I held my hand under the light where they tops were and it wasn't unbearable but the heat was noticeable. I moved the light about two inches higher. I know I'll probably have to move it again in the next couple of days. They are growing so fast. It's almost scary.

Next watering and nute schedule I will switch to 12/12 to induce flowering. That will be on Jan. 4th.

Curious Observation: The bagseed plant is a heavy drinker. I usually have about an inch of water in the run-off from the mystery seed but the bagseed plant drinks it up before it drains out the holes. I will then empty the reservoir from the mystery seed into the bagseed plant and it drinks that too. Nary a drop is wasted.

A mutant carnivore cannabis monster. It even has claws.

Instead of having the usual five to seven leaf pattern. This scary bitch has twelve. And, it's flowering all on it's own. I haven't even started the 12/12 cycle. Thank all that's holy it's turning out female. No balls yet. (crossing fingers) The smell of my girl has a citrus/medicinal/skunky scent. It's addictive. I want to crawl into my grow area and just roll around in it like a cat. :p

I had to top this girl because she was getting way too tall. I'm pretty sure it's sativa dominant. The other girl is getting bushy and isn't as quite as high. I'm thinking indica dominant. I wish I knew what they were.

Oh well, the mystery is half the fun.

bagseed is always fun to grow, when i have the space and lack of resources for proper seeds, it never fails to amuse me.
those are some serious sativa leaning phenos, my friend. hope you have the enough room for them, cause they might stretch like silly
putty.

That's my fear. The last time this happened I had to do some serious bending and topping to keep it inside the grow area. I still had to harvest early because it completely outgrew the closet. But the product from that plant was amazing. I'm worried my little one will get taken over by the big girl. But, I have 400 w HPS coming so I can put the big girl under that one and keep my short gal under the 250 w.

nice grow man plants are lookin nice!! +rep
Thanks. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. It's amazing how smooth things go when you have everything dialed in. These plants love the FoxFarm Grow Big. Ever since I started nuting with them the plants have gone nuts.

So far, no balls on either plant. :: keeping fingers crossed :: I started the flower cycle today. I'm so excited. I'm also stressed out. If they both turn out male then a lot of hard work and money have gone down the drain. But, it has been fun. I forgot how much I love to grow.

I watered and nuted today. I mixed 1 Tbs. of Tiger Bloom and 1 Tbs. of Big Bloom per instructions and added a Tbs. of Plantation unsulphured blackstrap molasses. PH tested at 6.4 - temps are 72 degrees - relative humidity 30% - 3 liters each of water.

I just put my girls to bed early. I was a little nervous. This is their first long night. I hope they don't get scared. I was thinking about a night light.. and a baby monitor. My poor babies!! I don't think I'm going to get through this night very well.

First night of 12/12 went o.k.. I spent the night checking for light leakage and checking temps to make sure they didn't drop too low. Like an idiot I was going over my girls this morning with a fine tooth comb and magnifying glass checking for balls. My harvest should happen around mid to late March (if everything goes well :: knocking on wood :: ).

I have to say, apart from the rocky start, this has been about the easiest grow I've had so far. I'm going to blame it on the FF products. :p
