I've read not to top or fim autos but has anyone done lst? Some of these autos still get pretty tall it seems. Or is most of the vertical growth done in flower?

Same questions keep getting asked guys. This is a HUGE thread now, just search for LST, topping, trimming, etc. before asking please.

To answer though, since Im already here......... :)
Yes you can LST autos. I have done so on occasion, look back a few pages for an example. You do not want to top, trim, fim or pinch an auto. It wont kill it but it will stunt it and since they start flowering right away, it wont have a lot of time to recover. If you have to keep them short, I recommend small pots. If that doesnt work, LST. If you have an AF that is a monster I suppose top it, but they are few and far between. Pretty much, if you dont have the height to grow the average AF strain, you need more height to grow. Crazy things can and have been done, but with less than average to average knowledge, you better stick with what works well, and reeeeeaaaaaally short cabs usually do not.

SH2H - Hey man plants are looking tasty!! When did you plant them again? It just doesnt look to me like next weekend would do, they look like they need a good 2+ weeks still from the pics. Are there more read/brown (dead) hairs than white ones or the other way around? Also, do ya have a magnifying glass or jewelers loupe to look at the trichomes? Never pull based on how old they are, always let the plant tell you when its time :) And in those last pics, they are sayin to me "No KB, we wanna live a bit longer. See our pretty green leaves and luscious white hairs? Were too young to die!!"

Ight AF growers here are sum pics of my snowryder girl at 8weeks i order 5 fem seeds my first i wasn't happy wit really fucked her up, 1 sprouted then died, 2never sprouted.. So my last did it for me she is really branchy i counted 10 long branches and one big cola shes comin in at 14'' and takin all challengers!:weed:

My last hated nutes but it could have been caused my high ph, I had to upgrade every thing light wend up to an 200 watt cfl with reflector, organic soil (roots), an hat to get a digi ph tester. And it turned out great for me i bet would have been better i i had a better light but will do. Shes very stealth only strong when you touch her;-).. it says shes a 10week girl might go with 9 idk yet.. Ill b sure to post harvest...

Question i ordered more fem snowryder and short stuff is giving 2 free fem KUSH seed has anyone given this strain a try? how was it?

I can't believe I read all 2086 posts in this thread!

There wasn't much enlightenment (for me) after the first couple hundred though. I'm just getting back into growing after a 10 year hiatus because of some ... erm ... legal issues. And I find the autoflower concept quite intriguing.

Most interesting (again - to me) is the lighting discussion. The strains I grew before did quite well on a 12/12 flower schedule. Since my space is limited right now, I'm going to have to flower everything on the same schedule. I have 4 strains going. The one I used to grow of an unknown sativa, ak48, white widow and lowrider. After reading this thread, I'm wanting to try the 18/6 light cycle. While arguably better for lowryders, do you think it will have any noticeable affect on the others?

Thanks for such an informative community.

Hey kolorblind, what's the best soil to "start" Autos in???? MG seed starter, MG spanghum peat moss, Fox Farm Happy Frog, FoxFarm Light Warrior or Pro mix? Forgot to mention, I will be usig Fox Farm Ocean Forest, after transplant for remainder of grow...

I am currently germin 30 beans,[3/15/10] (auto ak, LR2, white dwarf fem, auto ak x auto bb) and when tap root shows Im gonna put em' in jiffy pellts via a germation station with heat mat...
So once they sprout, (maybe in 24-48hrs) I will be putting them in 18oz party cups, so i need to know a.s.a.p. which soil is best.....THAnKS!!

Will start a journal wid pics of set-up, nutes, ect once they sprout....

KB, they sprouted on 1-16, went under HID on 1-23. So they are right around 60 days. (Out o' curiousity, do you count from day of sprout, or from the day that a viable seedling went goes into a system, or pot?)

I'm totally cool with let 'em go for another couple weeks.

I actually just bought a jewelers loupe last night, and WOW. Super sexy.

Totally sat there playin with that thing til entirely too late last night.

It was just so beautiful to see all those lovely jewels right before my eyes (as I have only been able to drool @ magazines or bud porn online since I was a teenager), now they are MINE! ALL MINE!

Yeah, thats childish, but I fukn luv em.

Con semilla or not.

Thanks for the feedback my man, as well as the "coaching" along the way.

Preesh homey!

Yeah, lemme know what ur thinkin for chop day. I want a nice amber couch locky type thang, and I do have patience. So just lemme know bro!!!!

Hey guys, been lurking for awhile. I've read through and searched this thread but haven't found much information on DWC. Mainly what I'm wondering is if anyone has any thoughts as to when to start adding nutrients?? I have single Pakistani Ryder and a single Fast Bud growing in a closet DWC tub under CFL. They have both sprouted and are moving quickly on plain water. The Fast Bud having reached the reservoir in just 5 days from germination.

In all my searching I've only ever really found 1 or 2 places of people mentioning not starting nutes until the 2nd set of leaves show. I did find one instance of a person talking about starting as soon as possible to give the plants as much veg growth as you can.

So anyone have any experience/advice for autoflowers in DWC??
Thanks!!

Many here have grown Easy Ryder (LR2xAk-47)
So maybe someone have compered them to original Ak-47. Are they similar in high, smell, taste?

Yes Lowes should carry everything. Usually they have what walmart does and then some, but some people only have walmart. MG makes an organic blood meal, but Im not sure about bone meal. You may need to go find a local nursery for that, comes in small bags looks like cocaine :)

For the 2L bottles, I cut them just above the label and poked a hole in the bottom of each little "foot" at the bottom. Heres the best pics I could come up with for ya...

Peace

It looks like the soil wasn't all the way to the top and I can't really tell where soil line is... About how far from the top is it? And with perlite, do you put it on top (I have seen pics of this) or mix in soil?

Sorry for these questions... This is my first grow but I also don't wanna mess it up!

oh yeah, kb, forgot to answer ur question regarding the gals hair color.

THere really is only 1 (the tall girl on right side you advised to LSTdown) that has more red hairs than white. ALL else are still white.

Any advice for some of the top colas that look like they gonna finish before some of the guys lower down?

Is it common to chop top branch & work your way down over say a week period to let them all finish?

lemme know & thanks a bunch!!

When I first transplanted into the 2L bottles, the soil was at the very top of where I cut. After weeks of watering, the soil will compact a bit. Make sure you get it as full as possible when transplanting, and even add more later if needed.

Add the perlite into the soil and mix. Some people use perlite on top to help with gnats or to retain moisture, but I have come to accept gnats and my plants get plenty of water.

If you want to sample then sure, but in all honestly I dont touch any of my plants till they're ready to come down. The top bud will always be the best, and you COULD remove it, but then it could stress the plant badly and cause nanners, foxtails or stunt growth. I know people that harvest a few branches at a time and never really chop the plant down, but with auto strains, that isnt a possibility so might as well wait a bit.

No matter when you harvest, the bottom buds will still look less ready than the top. Just make sure that the fat buds on the top half of the plant get a good amount of red or brown hairs and dont have primarily white ones. Pretty much count the lower buds off as popcorn nugs because they will never have the time to get as big as the top ones.

I guess no one knows the answer to my question, huh?/.......you would think that it would haved gotten a reply to the least, being that 99% of you grow autos in soil

Hey man so sorry I missed ya, totally didnt mean to blow you off or anything. I am not familiar with the FF brand as it is too rich for my blood. I have heard GREAT things though and would love to try it, but I have to pay more for a bag in shipping than the bag costs haha.

That being said, start your plants in as mild a soil as you can. If the FF soil you have is nute free then it would be perfect. I add a cupof blood meal per 5gal of soil for a little extra nitrogen but its not necessary.

MG will work too, but not optimal a it forms into hard compacted soil after a while restricting water absorption. Seed starter mix is ok too but out of all the options you listed above I would personally go with promix. Add a lil perlite if you can and maybe a splash of blood meal if its easily available. That promix stays nice and spongey for MONTHS, its very good stuff.

Sorry again for the late reply, let me know how things are lookin!

Mainly what I'm wondering is if anyone has any thoughts as to when to start adding nutrients??
Hey sam
I dont have any experience personally with DWC, and none at all with DWC and autos but I imagine a lot of the same principles apply. There is no right or wrong time to add nutes if done in small enough amounts. You just need to remember that if you nute burn a plant, at best it sets you back a few days, or it could even kill the plant, especially using hydroponics.

I would start with 1/16 the recommended amount as soon as the seedling surfaces if you really want to go early. If you want to play it a little more safe, go 1/8 when you see the first true leaves, up to 1/4 after showing second to third set and half after showing sex. From here you can take it to full strength if you want, but keep in mind that most nutes are not made for MJ and will burn the plants easily. Best to build a tolerance and stay at 50 to 75% of the recommended dose.

Peace

Could it be possible to germinate the seeds using the paper towel method then direct placing them into the 2L bottle?

Heck yeah, that would probably be the best option for getting the most out of your plant. The only issue with it is that you will have to pretty much count on half of them being males and you will have gone to all that extra trouble for nothing. But, if you dont ind the extra efforts and think it would be worth the possible extra rewards then go for it.

Just make sure you dont soak the whole soil mass for a while. you need to let the roots drink the soil dry, and it will take the plant at least a couple weeks to have roots all the way down to the bottom of the bottle. Whenever you see roots growing down at the bottom, cover the bottom with something light proof (dark paper, foil tape, magic marker, etc). From then on out, you can water until you see water coming out of the drain holes. Starting in a cup and transplanting within the first 2 weeks will give you almost the same results, but its easy to stress a plant during transplanting.
