4 of my 6 lowryder seeds have poked thru the dirt now :D

Can anybody tell me what i need to know about watering the soil... im a hydro grower and dont know squat about water and soil

I poured a half cup - cup of water in my 1/2 gallon grow bags yesterday after i put the germed seeds in the dirt..... but when do i water again and how do i make sure my 400MH light doesnt dry the plant out while im gone?
Heya Green!

In this thread back on page 18 I copied & pasted a little writeup I did for some friends on ICMAG about watering plants. After learning a few lessons myself and having to scrap entire grows due to me over thinking the watering situation, I finally figured out the best and also easiest way to water. HERE is a link to the thread, if that doesnt work just check page 18, its the first post I made on that page.

Good luck!

hey guys. i have 3 female diesel ryders. the biggest one is pollinated. what i want to know is how is the smell of the auto ak47's compared to the diesel ryders. anyone know what the biggest (average) yielding auto plant is? I would think it had to be lr2, ak, or easy ryder but ive never done those. only diesel ryder but i am starting easy ryder and lr2 right now while i wait for these diesel plants to finish up.
As far as the DR smell vs. the Auto AK, the DR is incredibly stronger. The DRs just have such a distinct, pungent odor whereas the AK variety is a bit more mild. The auto AK will definitely require a carbon scrubber, but even the best carbon scrubbers can sometimes be no match for a batch of DRs.

When you talk about which plant yields more, I would say probably AK based on reading reviews. Keep in mind that just because someone says they got X amount of bud off of X plant, doesnt mean that is what you will get. i am pulling approx 10-20g dry off my DRs while an ICMAG buddy of mine gets 3oz dry off each of his. Mine finish at 8-12" tall under a single 150w HPS and his range from 18-30" under I believe a 400w HPS. But under the same circumstances, AK is up there with some of the highest, if not the highest yielding AF strains.

Peace

hey kolorblind, i have a 400 watt hps but im going to htg supply here in 2 weeks or a month to get a 4'x'4x6' grow tent as well as a 600 watt digital hps with a cooltube reflector. i followed your diesel ryder seed run grow and also your mini fridge dr grow. i love the smell of the diesel plants, but want something that yields a bit more but wanna stick with the autos because theyre so cool and i get to look at my plants anytime i want to and dont really have to worry about light leaks at all with the autos. only have about 26 days left on the diesel ryder. started giving it molasses because you seemed pretty confident that your plants were fattening up from the carbs. just started 9 auto seeds all feminized got some lowboldt, easy ryder, and lr2. i wanted to get some regular ak47 from lowlife and regular lr2 to do seedruns with and just constantly grow diesel ryder, easy ryder and lowryder 2 in my huge tent. it would have space for 20 plants sog. (I think).:eyesmoke:

by the way, when did u stop with the bloom nutes on your diesel ryder. i was thinking of just stopping nutes now and just goin with molasses til chopping but dont want to lose any possible grams these pretty girls can pack on with the help of some bloom nutes

Hello every1 !!
I am currently growing 5 La diva autos and 1 roadrunner i got free.
Started them off with my 250w hps and now have them under a 400 to try and get the most out of them. Using bat guano for nutes iv just been top dressing the soil with it and watering through. They are in my closet with no proper ventilation set up just a big electronic fan oscillating the air in there with the top doors left open for the heat to travel up and out, temps are kicking at around 26 degrees.
Here are pics after 40 days from sprout so hopefully 20 - 30 days left. First 3 pics are the la diva's, last pic is the roadrunner What ya think ?? :peace:

Beautiful plants. Never heard of La Diva. Looks a nice auto strain. What are its parents/genetics?

On a side note, I'm growing 2 DRs females right now, they are not as stinky as other peoples DRs. In fact you can barely smell mine, one of them is on its 4th flowering week. But again my plants are TINY, 6 inches talls... grown under CFLs/poor lighting conditions. I wish I could afford a HPS + nice cooling system. With 7 CFLs I have 100F temps... so no point in adding a HPS right now :-)

Will post a picture of my DR when I get home, its leaves turned dark purple/redish.

thanks kolorblind... i woke up to find that all 6 seeds are poked thru the dirt... since i didnt water them completely the other day i went ahead and watered them until the water came running out the drain holes... so ill wait a few days until they need it again.... this method seems easier then water x amt of water every x amt of days... ive heard people talking about that and it seemed damn complicated.... so watering till the water gushes out the drain holes everytime the plant get lighter in weight will work better with me

+ rep to you kolor blind... i posted in several threads and i got no response despite all the soil growers around here... they just look and skim over without helping unless to benifit them

yeh thats a good idea for watering, mine are under a 600w hps and top soil drys super quick, although like ive said, plagron royalty mix is either too strong as they look nute burnt to me

or something else is wrong and i have no idea.

i know autos are sensitive to nutes,so im just prayin theyll pull through, the same ones did outside in the same soil

I stopped using nutes all together (other than molasses) at the end of week 6. Then I use 2tbls molasses per gallon every watering for week 7, 2tbls per gallon molasses every other watering for week 8 and if I let them go any longer I just use water only. At least give them one good flush of only water and a day or 2 to dry out before harvesting, it helps clear out a lot of the nasty salts & nute buildup in the soil so your plants will be close to chemical free once chopped.

Oh and thanks for the congrats! We are very excited!

Yeah I know how it can be posting questions that are new to you but common knowledge to most. Its damn hard to get an answer sometimes. Ill tell ya what, Im thinkin of goin hyrdo for a run or 2 soon so maybe you will be able to return the favor ;)

Other than that, Im glad the info helped. Plants dont require nearly as much as some people would have you believe. Most people that use 3-5 different kinds of nutes, specified watering schedules, etc. have probably A) been growing for a long time and B) been growing the same strain for multiple grows. Until you grow a strain many times you will have no idea what is good or bad, or too much/too little.

My first grow of Diesel Ryders was with ZERO nutrients and tap water and they gave me a total of 11g dry bud and 472 gorgeous Diesel Ryder seeds! I watered till they drained, and when they felt light as a feather again I repeated the process. I never paid attention to how long it was since I last watered them, I just checked them every day and if they werent ready I didnt water...easy peasy :)

I used the paper towel method to germinate the seed and then I stuck it into the soil without using any rockwool.

Maybe you have the light to close or not very much soil in the pot (no pun intended). If your plant has rooted into the soil then i dont see any problem with the rockwool drying out. As long as the soil is moist.

Personally, I think rockwool sucks.
Have always used Root Riot organic starter cubes with 100% success rate -

The overall yield was 304g from the 2 Auto AK's & 1 x lowryder2, that was including stems though. I don't personally have scales so not sure of individual weight. But a great result anyway.
