I've tried everything I've researched and that you guys posted, still getting nowhere fast. I have managed to clear my thoughts better during meditation but so far that's my only progress.
I hate to say it, but there's nothing fast about learning to meditate effectively. People spend their entire lives doing little more than meditation in attempt to reach enlightenment, and even then the number that do is small. Learning to clear your thoughts more effectively IS great progress. The important thing is to find a specific technique, and to stick with it. The more you use a certain technique, the more your mind will connect that technique with the states that you are trying to reach. This is a technique called "anchoring", and is also employed in psychotherapy for things like addiction or obsession control.

If I may ask, what is your goal, and what techniques have you used? Have you looked into brainwave entrainment at all?

You can order a brainwave entrainment demo CD for free from the centrepointe research institute - I believe the program is called "holosync". Unfortunately, the first half of the thing is basically an ad for the program, with the brainwave entrainment signals running in the background. Even with the guy's distracting voice going the whole time, I was very impressed with just how deep into meditation it could bring me, even when I had very little practice into reaching those states. Also, I wasn't "brainwashed" into giving them my money by listening to the demo that had the brainwave entrainment signals embedded into it. I did, however, then do my own research, used music that I personally found to be relaxing and meditative, and started using brainwave generator(free software) to embed binaural beats into the music that I had chosen.

If you'd like to go a more natural route and use only what your mind has available to you, that's great too, and I can answer any questions or offer any advice you are looking for.

I've tried stuff on youtube that said brainwave entrapment... All kinds of different guided and non guided meditation, also binaural beats and etc.

Aside from curiousity the reason for trying this stuff now is because these are stressful times, with all the rumors of potential coming wars and famine and nwo tornadoes flooding earthquakes etc etc etc. There's a lot of rumor in those cirles this type of stuff works, at least to some degree, so I wanted to check it out and get whatever I could from it.

Besides that I'm just a few months into adjusting to forced sobriety after a dui with mandatory pee tests, and want to go further to quitting smoking cigs too. Always feeling wound up or like I want a toke or smoke my lungs out to really relax and decompress isn't the healthiest thing anyway, so it's about time to learn other healthier methods. And any kind of break from this stress that doesn't involve drugs would be quite welcome. Anything that allows me to expand my mind beyond that would be gravy. Even if I couldn't remote view or anything fancy, I'd sure like to be able to control something, even if it's only my bodies own chemicals and it's reactions to stress, or my own imagination, to get that kind of break pot smoking used to give me and to keep stress or my bodies reaction to stress from affecting me negativly.

It's probably best to avoid the youtube "experts".

Sounds like you're trying a whole bunch of different things and feeling desperate to see some kind of "progress". You're setting yourself up for failure when you expect to see some sort of immediate change, and poisoning your efforts in the process. Let go of the expectation and experience the experience for what it is. Find a certain technique that works, and stick with it. The other mantra I tend to use regularly is one I made up myself, and it's "blankmind". I think the thought, and specifically remember it for its meaning and focus on the feeling of thinking of absolutely nothing. as soon as I notice myself start to think about something, or even start to focus on my breath or anything, the "blankmind" gets repeated again and I focus on absolute emptiness.

I can't stress enough the level of success I have seen in myself and others with SIMPLE binaural beats(not the ones you buy on a cd from hemi-sync or whoever) when it comes to establishing a decent proficiency at meditation. Just like the anchoring techniques I described above, if you can't get yourself into an alpha brainwave state, using the binaural beats while also using the mantra will anchor that state to your mantra.

Get yourself brainwave generator ( http://www.bwgen.com ) and a good piece of relaxing sound ( I use rain with crystal bowls, or some calm music) and play around with it. A simple sweep down from 15 hz to 3 hz over 15-20 mins, followed by sticking somewhere in the 1-7 hz range or fluctuating between those ranges will be very effective.

hey there i exp astral projection hmm-mm, when i was a young buck about 14 or 15 yrs ago ,
something that is impossible to forget ,I don't want to influence anyone in using Liberty Caps also known as magic mushrooms , These require a sound state of mind at the time i was reading lots of eastern Buddha stuff bit of beatnik poetry also and philosophy stuff like Alan watts in shit
Anyway Ive had two Major spiritual experiences in my life First time was in a forest on top of the Dublin /Wicklow mountains were id just foraged some liberty caps just outside the forest My friend and i consumed some of these in a flask of tea that we brought ,

I chanted some of my fav philosophy while awaiting some affects it went .....
"There no going towards it , There no going away from it , i am it so become who i am "
well let me tell yea enlightenment is not a good enough word for what happened us friends
there's an old saying that goes those that speak do not know and those who know do not speak , it was like that my friend and i only need look at each other LIFE ,TREES, everything was... im sorry words just dont cut it , Godness

Second time was different i was on a mild dose of shrooms in the suburbs i was hanging out with friends and i got a huge urge to just walk away and lie down on the ground somewhere by my self , which i did , it was night time i rose "projected out of by body " rising up first thing you notice is the absence of the physical Realm "plane" of existence its so Astral as they say i was taking in the moment i knew what was happening , after a short time i felt too overwhelmed and attempted to re enter my body which i did and the sensation of re entry was AWESOME thingles al over my body it felt just like you'd imagine it to feel ,Shrooms are a spiritual Drug also its a poison in the shroom that makes us have this affect its been used in my country for thousands of years right back to the ancient Druids i believe ,Honestly one could find themselves at the Doors of Perception and have different exp than i did
I never lost control using these on the contrary I Gaind lots of inner identity
Sure since then i tried inducing it threw meditation in stuff but the best i can do is flying Dreams Ive had such flying dreams and have been awake in them from places that looked like Mars to earths roads and houses
Finial y sorry i know im starting to waffle on a bit know il finish by saying what has helped me to dream of flying Practice threw out your day from time you get out of bed thinking about things rising , example if your outside try visualize hot air balloons rising up in the sky ,even the smoke rising from your cig or joint :)
airplanes anyting that helps you think of stuff rising ,when you've got your mind used to think of shit rising everyday eventually when you sleep YOU will rise and fly just like i did
