As if allergies didn't already suck enough, now I'm treated like a meth addict

It's that time of the year again where allergies get bad. I'm like Paul Phifer from the Wonder Years if I don't take some medication because of all the pollen out there. Thankfully Claritin-D makes my allergies non-existent. I ran out of it today and decided to go pick some more up.

Here's what happened when I got to the checkout:

Clerk: I can't sell you that.
Me: uhh.. WTF? Why?
Clerk: It says you've purchased your limit for this month
Me: I take one a day, as prescribed. How could I of reached the limit?!
Clerk: I don't know but according to the computer you're blacklisted for a month from buying it.

At that moment the Pharmacist walks up

Pharmacist: Sorry, once you're on the list we can't sell you it until the ban expires.
Me: So let me get this straight, the limit is set so low that I can't take the drug as prescribed now?!
Pharmacist: Apparently that's what the computer is telling me. I'm sorry, it's really pathetic. It's not our policy but federal law. Do you have a friend or family member who can buy it for you?
Me: Yeah, I'll be right back. What I find funny is that I've had prescriptions for Oxycontin, which is essentially legal herion, and I'm not even required to show ID yet for this I'm closely monitored, forced to show ID, and now I apparently can't even buy the PRESCRIBED DOSE without getting blacklisted.
Pharmacist: Yeah, that's horrible. I absolutely agree with you. If you really wanted meth you would buy it on the streets anyways and dealers won't check ID nor do they have limits.
Me: Exactly. If people want to get high they will get high regardless of what you do. Anyhow, I guess I'll be back with a friend.

So anyways I left and came back with a friend who bought it for me. Seriously though, the government has gone fucking retarded. Why would they set the limit you can buy below what is normally prescribed so you're assured to become blacklisted?! Also, even if it were set higher, do they really think this will stop meth production? It clearly hasn't, meth is still widely available. I don't even smoke meth yet it's now probably easier to obtain than Claritin-D. If I wanted to I could probably buy an ounce of meth and five gallons of vodka to kill myself with yet I can't buy some fucking Claritin-D. Seriously, WTF?!

The funny thing is the only decongestants you can buy OTC now in the USA without requiring an ID is Phenylephrine. Here's the kicker, recent studies done on it show it's no better than a placebo pill. In other words, it does absolutely NOTHING.

So for people like me your options are this:

  1. Get ripped off and buy Phenylephrine. After discovering it does jack shit move on to option 2 or 3 below;
  2. Buy Pseudoephedrine until you get banned then get friends/family to buy it until the ban expires. Doing so also puts you at risk of getting your house raided or you arrested on suspicion of manufacturing meth. Don't believe me? Read this: HERE
  3. Suffer.
The drug war is fucking retarded. The only thing it ever does is fuck up peoples lives worse than the drugs themselves while also hurting completely innocent people in the process too. Do other countries have these stupid limits on Claritin-D too or is it just the USA?

It's what they make meth with.

If your serious about manufacturing methamphetamine you would have to have like 10 different people buy it for you right? And you really don't want 10 people knowing you have a meth lab thats producing a LOT of meth.

They just want to make it more difficult for people involved with that to produce it, which I think is fine.

I have the occasional allergy's so I take Claratin D... But I don't even take it every day just every once in a while

the system... every day it's getting more complicated and annoying for normal people :wall:

seriously why would they blacklist you even when you are buying just the prescription dose, it's stupid.. they should look for people buying lots or at least more than a normal daily dose

I also buy Claritin-D for my allergies but I only take it once in a while so I never had the that blacklist problem

That's the thing, doing this actually makes the situation worse. Once you start making it very hard to obtain chemicals to produce the drug it puts the little guys out of business. Guess who fills that need? The cartels. That's exactly what happened too. Meth used to be produced domestically up until they enacted these laws to control pseudoephedrine. Once these laws went into place the amount of domestically produced meth went WAY down. Meanwhile, we're now seeing massive amounts of meth, or the precursor pseudoephedrine, being imported from other countries now via organized crime. (Again, imported meth was unheard of until these laws were enacted) You know what's funny? According to the DEA themselves Meth has become much more stronger over the years due to the influx of imported meth via organized crime.

Prohibition will never work, it's really that simple. The harder you try to ban something the more prevalent it'll become. When you attempt to ban a drug the following happens: Violence increases, organized crime flourishes, and the drug supply is better than ever. Meanwhile, those of us who could have benefited from the drug medically are left suffering just because the government is afraid people might get high off it. This sound familiar? It's exactly what happened with weed and now apparently the same is happening with pseudoephedrine. :cuss:

I work in a pharmacy and you can get 3.6g of pesudophedrine a day (the ingredient in all expectorant/chest congestion medicines). I think you are allowed to make 3 purchases of this a month. With Claritin-D, you can get 15 (might even be 30, I can't remember) pills a day, x3... so 45 a month (potentially 90), each pill lasts you the day... not sure how buying it 3 times wouldn't last you a month. Also, if you switched to Zyrtec (Cetrizine) you can buy 24 pills at a time, but I'm not sure if it would work for you, most people can only find relief from 1 or the other.

I'm not trying to be a dick, just pointing out the numbers and what you are allowed. Like the person working at the pharmacy mentioned, have a friend grab you some whenever you are with one at a store (just give him the money), so if you need it again in the future you can get it without a hassle.

I think its time you check the piece of paper that comes with your pills, it will likeley say something like; do not use for more than x consecutive days....

That's the weird thing, no way was I near this limit. I take one 24hour pill a day and the most I buy at once is a 30day supply. I have no idea how or why I got on the list buy I'm 100% certain I didn't go over this limit. I wonder if their systems malfunctioned or something?

My allergies get jacked up this time of the year though and I'm instructed to take it everyday from April->mid-September. Luckily I don't notice any negatives from it like some of you have.

If we would stop the war on drugs we could pay off our national debt pretty soon. USA is a fucking idiocracy. It's cosed trillions of dollars and hundreds of thousands of actual lives.

Someone pry open America's asshole to relieve itself of it's head, please.
