rule of thumb is 1 watt per gallon, youll need more pumps and air stones, u should just get a bucket.

well i got 4 - 18 gallon tubs.

what should I do? I got 1 18 watt 600 gph pump. it was the largest they had.

what happens if I don't up it?

18 watts?! u might b alright if u can get them bubbles spread decently across the res. i use a 2.5 gallon bucket, and a dual output 4 watt pump and it werks wonders. i think u should try ur set-up out! i like ur ideas already, PLENTY of root space in them bitches tho.;-)

You could add more bubbles with some cheap aquarium pumps from wal-mart if you need to. They are quiet and put out lots of bubbles.

Is that the four outlet one? Do you have all four outlets hooked up the one airstone?

yeah it's 4 outlet. i got 4 separate airstones for 4 separate tubs.

you think I should move all these plants to 4 10 gallon tubs? and 4 - 12" stones? They only had 4" round stones at the time.

Lol if one is loud and you get the same one than I would guess that it would be then twice as loud as with one pump

This all depends on what you want the bubbles to do. If just oxygenate the water then that may be enough. But unless you have another way of feeding them until roots are in the water, it is not nearly enough to be bubble based. I use that 600gph pump on 3 12 inch stones in 6 gal of water.

what about just spraying the rockwool? the roots were already in the water from 4 days from napkin. the seeds just exploded. it was about 8".

right now i'm just worried about oxygenation. not sure if there is a formula or how i can tell my roots are not adequately oxygenated??

does the gap from WATER to ROCKWOOL provide enough oxygen or will the roots die if there is not enough?

If you are worried if the rockwool should be soaking or just moist it is best to just let it soak. Many people have accomplished it and I am right now. Rockwool will hold as much air as the plant needs for it to get past seedling. If it needs some lower it will transfer air from the top and sides of the cube for it. I can take a few pics and show you.

Here are two seedlings going through seed to sprout to grow currently don't ask strain cause it's bag seed so I don't really know. I like surprises.

Roots don't need any airspace from the bottom of the netpot to the water. But I think it helps them. My belief is that the roots should be fed in that airspace, and that is most critical before the roots are well in the water. As for oxygenation of the roots living in the water, I have never seen a formula. But I've seen dwc grows with very little and they looked great. Again though, more than enough doesn't hurt and it's worth it if all you get from it is peace of mind.

you dont need a lot of bubbles at all.

You can either water your rockwool for the first couple of days, or just raise the water level right up to them.

thanks for the pics, siv.

and thanks again guys.

I replaced $10/stone with $3/stones and for some reason I am getting A LOT more bubble popping action with the cheapo airstone.
