Hello all! 1st grow and getting sorta close to flowering time and decided to go HPS. I've been searching around for the right ballast and I think these are it. Unless there are better for the price? I'm also getting a 3x3 or 4x4 tent. 6-8 plants in soil in 3 gals. Was going for 600 watt phantom. What ya think? Thanks!

It would work fine...I would go for the 1k and run at 75% for Indica's. that way you have the available lumens to go for a sativa down the road. I might want a different hood though!
You might look for a square hood for a square tent! Maybe a Sun System blockbuster 6 (8inch is overkill for your needs). that's up to you though.

Woah,,,go for a digital ballast! sorry.

Yeah those are old ballasts and price is bit high. You can get like a digital dimmable ballast cool tube reflector 1 mh bulb and 1 hps bulb with hangers and timer for about $180 on ebay new with warranty shipped.

Thanks all for the replies! I will ditch this deal and maybe buy separate or a kit on ebay. I'll also aim for 1000 watt and just dim it down :D. Should I buy into the Radio Frequency protected? Because I live in an apartment. That ballast had it.

Dimming alters spectrum..
All digitals have rfi shielding...hence the FCC declaration of conformity stamp
Don't buy into all the marketing hype

Dude, one word. Amazon. Search for grow light. 400&600 to your door for nice prices. My first grow was under a 400w igrow complete set for $124.00 to my door. I got 13.83 oz from 3 plants with it. Nice smoke too. Shop around. A few days for fed ex is way better than paying too much. That's extra $$$ to spend on nutes and pH control.

Impressive! What light did u use for veg? And final pot size? I've seen Ipower and Apollo on amazon for cheap but I ran into a thread talking about RF issues with cheap ballast. I live in an apartment so I didn't wanna risk messing with neighbors cable/Internet etc..

Like was said earlier, check Craigslist first, I got a 600 Lumatek that was made the same year, a magnum xxxl without a scratch, a brand new Digilux 600 hps bulb, a used MH bulb, a new 6x28 carbon filter and hangers and ratchet straps for $120 last year. I didnt need any of it but wanted the hood and dude posted it for $150, told him id give him $100 and he did did it for $120, I think he got himself into some legal trouble cuz the hps bulb and carbon filter were still boxed up. I always look for equipment on there. Another dude has a 4x4 jardin on there with a 400 for $60, might grab that this weekend

So you would choose 600 watt at maximum vs 1000 dimming ?
I sure would if I was going to use a 3x3 or 4x4 tent as you say. If it is your first grow remember the hotter the light the more the issues of generated heat you'll have to address. Its do-able either way but you will have to consider it.

This is excellent advice. Heat issues are bad, we've all had to deal with them. Make it easy on yourself. Start w/ the 600 - it's plenty for either tent. Move up to the 1000 when you're ready and use the 600 for supplemental lighting.

I used mh for veg,hps for flower. 3 gallon smart pots. Pro mix bx with added pearlite. Technaflora nutes fed at 100% every watering.
Never had any RF issues and I have a tv less than 5 feet from the ballast.
Happy Growing, Polo

So I was searching and searching and I ran into this grow tent kit on ebay. Could you provide any input on it? I don't own any of the items yet. Thanks.
