Arduino experiments - Datalogger for the grow room

Hi,
I noticed you guys are discussing dimming during certain hours of the light cycle and was wondering if anyone was brave enough to do it and has recorded concrete data.
From my graphs I've noticed that as soon as the lights comes on, the plants feed instantly, drinking (and perspiring) at a constant rate for the first 8 hours of the flowering period. The last 4 hours, it's "VERY" clear, beyond a doubt even that they're not perspiring as much and getting ready to sleep.
And the funny thing is I water every 4 hours. ( almost at the exact time this occurs!).
Too afraid to dim in case I lower my yield, so was hoping someone else has it tried and tested.

Man o man, you should try dimming during those 4 hours, since they're already going to sleep by themselves anyways. If they're not perked up, they're not doing as much photosynthesis as they could, so i don't see the issue in dimming. Try going 75% or so and check your logs :)

We'd love if you updated with results too!

I think dimming would provide benefit in your case, but someone with a lower dli may not see this drop off. There are others that just cut the lights at that 8hr mark, I will be experimenting with a 10/10 schedule.

I would be interested to see what happens when you dim at other points in the day. Do they still stop feeding at 4pm when lights go out at 8 with a couple of dimming cycles throughout the day?

Ramping lights down at the end of the lights on period would help reduce the humidity spike.

Well it is mostly due to the sudden drop in temperature I suspect, but it is a well-known phenomenon and response to it. For ideal growth, you want to keep those night time temps around 78 to keep all the enzymes active.

Ok from my data. It looks like feeding does not slow down at all when the lights are on.( which is very strange as I thought perspiring rate is proportional to the feed rate).
I'll post my chart to show you all when I get home

It's winter here so humidity outside maxes out during rain,
Yellow line on top is inside temp, red outside
  • you can clearly see when my light turns on, as temp increases rapidly, also you can see the jaggered dips which tells when my cooling turns on.
  • You can see my oil heater turning on and struggling to keep it warm.
Middle chart green line is inside humidity, blue is outside
  • As before you can see that when my light instantly turns on, the humidity almost instantly drops (due to the hotter temperature)
  • You can see how during lights off
  • Like i said in previous post, there is a dip which happens around 4am everyday (my 12-12 is from 7pm-7am)
  • I almost never see humidity under 70 in my room, so although its not much of a change, for me it's pretty drastic!
Bottom chart, the pot weight
  • You can see when i feed
  • You can see the weight drop a lot faster during lights on
I'm on my 4th week of flower and my girls are massive! (i'm expecting 1.5lbs per plant) which explains the 24kg pot weight.
Also, you cannot see it in the chart, but what strange is that the 3 hour drop in humidty during lights on (4am-7am) does not affect the pot weight at all. (it still drops proportionally till lights off).

Thanks for the read! Can you tell us a bit more about your setup? I´ve been meaning to set something like this, even have the Arduino, but have felt a bit intimidated by even the choice of software. These kind of graphs are exactly what I would like to achieve.
