Millions to thousands. Tens of thousands at most.

Say, you don't happen to be one of those absolutist do you? If a single person is harmed then the principle is failed?

One guy is burned alive because of his seat belt so....seatbelts are morally wrong?
Seatbelts can be a good idea, forcing people to wear them (using guns of government) not so much.

The efficacy of seatbelts or lack thereof is a lesser concern to me than your ability to make the choice for yourself. It"s funny to me that governments force people to wear a seatbelt "to save lives", yet governments are institutions based in violence and routinely kill their own serfs and get their serfs to kill serfs on other plantations without any remorse. Massive fucking mind control and totally unnecessary. "If we can save just one life". Horse shit.

I tend to be an absolutist about things that involve human interactions. For instance, I think it's better when relationships begin and proceed on a mutual and consensual basis between those involved.

I don't like forcible hierarchies, which is why I am a Voluntaryist and rail on incessantly about my philosophy. I have no problem with other people being whatever they want to be, socialist, religious, atheist, crazy cat lady, gay, straight, etc. with the caveat they don't force it on others who are opposed or disinterested. Our preferences don't create a right to force our ideas on others etc. That is a major flaw with "democracy".

By definition a person who embraces government is a person who is okay with forcing their ideas on other people. Some otherwise good people don't understand that, due to their ignorance, brainwashing or both. As well, some bad people do understand that, but being psychopathic they employ government as a vehicle to gain power over others.

The only ideas we should ethically force on others is in defense mode, not offense mode. Meaning, every person is equal in that one regard, we all have the right to defend ourselves and our right to be left alone or pursue our own interests as long as we respect that right in others. That's what equality really is. Equality of outcome is an impossible mirage. A happy meal toy for tricking intellectually lazy or incompetent people into supporting bad ideas. Unfortunately it is the status quo....presently.

That's one of our problems...American exceptionalism...We're the best in the world at everything, why would we look to a backwards European country for clues about our own problems? We're obviously better than anyone, anywhere...
Except at math...And science...And human rights....And worker rights...And reproductive rights...And...
You don’t have to look all the way to Europe for clues.
