A Gram Per Watt? How?

Gram per Kilowatt hour is the true test, and this is where high efficiency lighting like COB LED shows it superiority. Gram per watt is subject to significant skewing as it does not take time into account.
:peace: or if one gram gets you higher than another gram...for instance....I stopped measuring gpw months ago to be honest...I run enough different strains and Kelvin color, that it was too much to account for variables based on my weight...My juicy fruit will yield 2 grams/watt if I really tried and with a 4 week veg too...It is a freak I call it stretch. On the other side of the coin...I have been working something I call pine berry and I would be lucky to yield 1 gram watt on a 12 week veg. It is now just being grown for its genetic input not flower, 1st anyways :)

GpKWH and Terp Profiles are future for this dummie :joint:

This is making me question whether or not I'm doing it right.... I'm using a 400w in a 3x3 space. So you're saying I should use a 1000w? But then surely my temps would be waaaaayyyy tooo high for such a small area
Im in the same position. Closet Grow. 400w light in a 4x4 space. For some reason i think 2-3 plants will utilize the light better than say 5-6.

General rule in regards to HPS flowering from my understanding is

2x4 or 8 sq ft = 400w
3x3 or 9 sq ft = 600w
4x4 or 12 sq ft = 1000w
In a 2x4 tent would I use a different reflector than I would in a 3x3? I may be getting a 2nd tent up and running that is 2x4 and I'm not sure what would be the best way to ensure that enough light reaches the far edges.

I wouldn't put 1000 watts in 9 sq/ft ever. I have been doing this since the early 80's never heard or seen that to work in my opinion. You will always have to ask your self what is too much, what is too little. experience and studying what works for others will guide you.
Too much light can , make your buds bitter to smoke as turpennes are suppressed due to light stress,
Excess light levels can make your plants "bolt" similar to lettuce. A long spike like top will develop and never reach full potential,
Excess light will require the plants to uptake additional water to protect themselves. Plant Growth = Uptake/intake - evaporation.

For every 42 sq/ft I use 600 watts and expect to get up to 900 grams of dried bud with my heavier producers, I dont use Co2 currently either. Lighter producers 1 gram/ watt

This is my experience - others will have different results - I have been studying botany since the mid 80's and consider myself to be an experienced and qualified plantsman in this industry. Due to security reasons I cannot provided you with proof of my experience - the patients I work with know and that's good enough for me...
So you're only running about 15 watts per square foot?

I can be done.....
Strain selection and being very tuned into your plants environment are key. Not everyone will reach that goal, but they sure will have fun trying. Worse case - they will have to smoke all their last crop and try again....
SOG,SOG,SOG!

Lol. I do a 3 day veg. There is no need to waste all that time. 25 plants per 3x3 or 36 per 4x4. Oz per plant.
NOW we're talking! I believe! Been there done that! Now here with a super short veg, the above statement of strain selection becomes very important!

With 400w in a 31 x 31 x 63 tent. #1 Plant warrior pots. Proper strain selection and flipping at 8 inch's.
It's NOTHING to be able to pull comfortably over 25 zips! That's 700 grams (minimum) coming in at 1.75 gpw!

To reach a gpw is ,,,,, actually QUITE simple!

The real trick to KILLING the 1 gpw barrier is simply SOG, SOG,SOG.....The new gpw barrier in my book. Becomes over 3 gpw with a SOG and that can be done too!

I saw a HUGE SOG pull over a 7 figure profit (not mine) in BC once. Killer set up! The Canuk coppers knew it was there and didn't bother it till pressure from the US DEA made them raid it! Rumor has it that was part of what lead to the BC seed king getting getting nipped!

Been watching this thread waiting to add my 2 cents

Peace

Some strains don't even need veg times.

Here's my white gold, 12/12 from seed. Her branches are almost 4 feet tall already which will turn into baseball bat buds. 0402160806_HDR.jpg

Yeah 1 oz isn't even worth it, double the veg and get triple the results just saying all the support comes from that

What do you think takes longer to grow?

a single 16oz plant

or 16x 1oz plants?

or better yet, let's say you have the room for 16 plants in 1 gallons, pushing 1 oz a plant. You can delay cycle 4 plants every 2 weeks.

Then come harvest time, you'll be harvesting a qp every 2 weeks. That's the major benefit of running multiple small plants, you're constantly harvesting and cycling plants.

A 1 pound plant, requires a lot of veg time, and some people don't want to sit around or rely on a single huge harvest to get them by till next harvest. That's what outdoor growing is for.

My setup doesn't allow me to do such a cycle, but if I could I'd much rather harvest a QP every 2 weeks instead of a pound every 4+ months.

I have 2 cabinets going with 2 plants in each, cycling so I have 2 to 3+ ounces every 2 weeks. It isn't perfect since some strains take longer to finish and that throws the cycle off.
