A Buddy Of Mine Got Me On My Toes Today Saying That Running A 600watt Bulb Will Bring Suspicion To The Electical Company And They'll End Up Visiting Maybe Even The Law. The Problem Is Yes, I Live In An Apartment And It Wouldnt Make Sense Randomly That My Electicity Useage Jumps Up Out Of No Where Compared To A House But I Really Want To Run 600w For My Grow. Do I Have To Stick To A 400w Or Lower To Keep Away Unwanted Visits? Please Help Me Out People Expecially Other Apartment Growers!!!!

a 600 will be fine, I use a 400. My bill is around 150 to 185 right now, I'm in a 1 bedroom apartment. Just pay your bill on time and you'll be fine. Don't let your friend sketch you out!

Don't worry about it for a second. It's easy to run more than that with a couple computers a big screen tv, a projector, a window A/C unit or space heaters or any other group of electronics like that.

I used to run 2000w in a 2 bedroom apt, no problem.

Hi
I was using a 600w hps last winter and with the fan it was eating $45 a month in juice. A bigger issue is unless you run it 220v, it will pull everything a average 15 amp Apt. outlet has to give, be careful, Good luck.
Peace

yeah i grow in a 2 bedroom apartment, im only running 400w at the mo and i keep 2 oil heaters on show in my apartment just in case any unexpected visitors turn up. a friend of mine who lived in holland for a while used to grow and whenever he was planning a large grow he would put the heaters on for maybe a month before he started just so in case.

The electric company loves it when you use electricity, as long as you pay your bill you won't have any problems. On the coffee maker point, even if you did find a coffee maker that pulled 600w you only run a coffee maker for 10 min not 12-24 hours so the comparison doesn't work anyhow, unless your drinking 40-50 pots of coffee a day.

I got a better idea

Tell your buddy you're not growing anymore and do it by yourself. I understand its damn near impossible not to tell anyone but, lets be honest, the only people u need to tell is everyone here on RIU.

Use the 600w, pay your bill on time, and get an odor control and you'll be set.

You should be fine. As others said pay on time and no worries. I started with a 600 and kept it for 2 years until I decided to switch.

Thanks Alot Guys. The Great Thing Is That Im Growning In A Bedroom Closet Which I Will Keep The Door Closed When Im Not Home. I Will Also Put A Lock On The Bedroom Door Which Shouldnt Be A Problem. My Mother Lived In Apartments For Years And She Put Locks On Her Bedroom Doors And Never Had A Problem With Maintenance. My Only Concern Was The Law. Also Maintenance Is Very Respectful When It Comes To Privacy. When They Come They'll Either Leave A Letter For Instance That They Will Be Comming In On So And So Date To Check The Furnace Filter. I Doubt It If They Are Going To Kick In My Bedroom Door. I Work Nights And Im Home During The Day So Ill Be Home Anyway.

Im Cool With Most Of The Maintence Men In My Building So I Deff. Dont Have A Probelem With Them Comming In Expecially If My Bedroom Door Is Locked. My Only Concern Was Electricty Usage. And Yes I Will Be Running A 6" Inline Fan W/ Carbon Filter For Odors. I Also Have Central Air In My Apartment So Temps Hopefully Shouldnt Be A Problem Expecially With A 424cfm Fan Exausting Air Out Of The Grow Area Into The Filter. Plus Winter Is Comming And We Get Freezing Temps, Gas/Heat Is Free Too!

Also Does Anyone Know About Camera Survalince Video Feed. Im Not Sure If It Was On This Forum Or MjP.com But I Stopped In On A Post And There Was A Guy That Had Video/pic Feed Sent To His Cellphone AND UPDATED EVERY COUPLE MIN And Even Posted The Video/pic Feed On The Post So Everyone Could Watch His Grow Live!!!! Can Anyone Help Me Find This Man Or Info On Video Feed Via Cellphone!!!!!! Im Interested In Video Feed.

I was running a 600W in my appartment and I had to shut it down. One day i go to work and my friend is hungover in his room. The maintenance guy knocks at the door. Friend lets him in. He goes into MY bathroom... I am not there so I can't tell him not to go into my closet. But my friend goes back to sleep so now this maintenance guy is in my room by himself with my closet box set up with a 600W light. I get home from work and my friend tells me the maintinaance guy came in. I started to worry but I said hopefully he didn't look in the closet. So the next night. A security guard brings my friend outside and tells him whatever you got growin in the closet needs to be out by tomorrow. This was the security guard, not the maintinance guy that went into my room.. So obviously I had to shut down at that point I was convinced the whole appartment complex employees knew what I was doing. I payed my bill on time and everything too so be careful is all im saying. I am convinced the maintinance guy went in there to look around because it was literally like a month after I started turning no the light for 12 hours a day.

Good luck dude.

OrangeJuicer: That's a burn. I narrowly evaded an inspection just weeks ago. GRRR! I am writing a survival guide on it right now.

Thread poster in general: 600W is not too much, many computer power supplies pull 600W, and 600W is not considered a bizarre amount of electricity to consume. My 1bedroom probably pulls around 2000-3000 watts as I run 2 acs, a grip of computers, and other fancy shit.

I've done 600 watt in an apt by now just do 250. That 600 was just making me paranoid and the 250 can be set up in a small closet.

I'm lucky that I live in a state where by law I'm given 48 hours written notice before anyone may enter my place. This gives plenty of time to tear down the operation and bag everything up as needed. I use ozone for the odor.
