  • Hi Techhead.
    Thanks for your LED article!! I've been researching them and had a 300w unit manufactured. I think one key metric that's overlooked either Lumens per watt and/or ftc hitting the canopy. I don't believe that a few red and blue wavelengths in the PAR zone make up for intensity over the spectrum.

    So my questions are-
    There are a few new LEDs (CREE, Phillips & Raytheon) that are white 3200k to 7000k. I assume these CCT's would perform exactly like an HID if they were the same intensity. Is that correct?

    These LED's eclipse 100 lumens per watt. Based on this I am working on a second 300w LED which at 4200k emits 39,000 lumens that I'm assuming should perform like an HID of the same output. Does that sound feasable?

    If I go forward I will have the panel built to deliver 4-5000 ftc to a 3x3 canopy. To overcome poor light penetration and bc plants can be so close to LED's I'm going to build a modular LED SCROG. What do you think about the idea?
