I was under the impression, when the idea of dwc came up, that as long as the roots are contained in the party cup an outside res could be used. I did ask and was green lighted in the first few pages of this thread.

Go for it, it's not about winning the prizes or being judged, pretty low key comp really as long as you have thick skin and don't mind being called names, being told that you're cheating when you're not and the like, it's all good ;) I learned quite a bit from the last one (1st 12/12 from seed) and the entertainment is priceless. Get you engineering hat on and pop some seeds!

The roots will be fully contained in the party cup. There are tiny holes in the bottom of the cup, to let water in and up thru the hydroton. The holes are too small to let much of anything out. In actuality, the holes in the bottom of my party cup are exactly the same size as they were last round, in soil. If any roots make it thru the tiny holes, I'll have to cut them, just like anyone that has to go in DWC or any other soilless medium. The whole point of this system is to keep everything contained and neat-like.

And, if you read my description fully, the bottom res has no nutes in it at all, its just plain H2O. I've made the majority of my amendments in the top organic soil/soilless mix, and will only be adding base organic nutes and molasses to the top system, in minute quantities.

Not sure how you think I'm breaking any rules, other than you're green over my ingenuity and thinking outside of the box on this round.

this seems a bit more fair to me....View attachment 3210417
Nope Not Really Brother.I Came To This Conclusion After I Allowed A Seprate Res In The Comp That I Hosted. You See The Sprit Is A Party Cup Comp Ie 1 Party Cup To Use However You Want Besides I Have Figured Out How To Run An Extra Res.Now What Keeps Me From Running 6 Extra Off Board Res's.So You See Why We Should Keep It As Simple Only Allowing 1 Party Cup Per Plant :weed:

Yes, you were green lighted, without a single objection. Any medium allowed as long as roots are fully contained inside party cup.

Whatever Dude Take Your Party Cup Out Of the 5 Gallon Bucket And Make This Work Within The 16 Oz Party Cup.What You Have Is A Upper Res Sitting In A 5 Gallon Lower Res Which Totally Violates The Sprit Of This Comp.

I totally disagree, and think you're making something out of nothing. Any medium/method is allowed as long as roots are fully contained inside the Party Cup. Period. Maybe you should put more effort into innovation, instead of whining like a wee puppy.

I guess its up to TKO since its his comp.

You guys suck now I have research to do if its gonna be all official like... See I really don't know jack diddly on hydro setups :dunce:. I guess all I have to say is: if your running hydro of some sort you may need to include root photos every week with updates.
Personally I don't give 2 republic droids what you do as long as roots are contained in the cup and that cup is 16 oz.

I've been waiting for someone to ask me if they can make a party cup from root pouch fabric commonly known as landscapeing fabric. But then how do you measure and proove its exactly 16 oz. and no more but no less??? Also fabric can stretch a little so it could mean more than 16oz. once saturated and stuffed with soil

I dont mind taking a weekly picture of the bottom of the cup, for a roots check. But with this setup, its going to be hard to work with roots outside of the cup anyhow, as I've designed these to be self contained systems. Roots outside of the Party Cup would inhibit its ability to stand up.

Holes are teeny.

Each Party Cup sits on a tray that is flooded with plain water up to the top of the hydroton. I'll be adding a layer of coco coir and then my amended soil layer on top of that. I'm still hand feeding from the top, with organic base nutes, cal/mg and molasses as needed, just like in past rounds.

As in past, I'll document my entire process, and will take pictures of the bottom of the cups, if that pleases the masses...its all good.

I think this is cool, and something new, and people should just chill. Its not as if I've ever done this before...I could flop on my face.
