2014 Backyard Grow

I have been covering one of my greenhouses with plastic sheeting since june 13th or so. Needed this harvy to hold me over. Worked out pretty good other than aphids. I have only had one bud "crackle" on me so far, so he tape on the end of the branches is working to keep them from getting back in the buds. I lost like 2 grams to black sooty mold because the top was so dense that i couldn't wash the aphids out of the buds so their seceretions caused some nasty black mold to form. It's all in the game though. 5 plants and only 2 grams to mold aint bad if you ask me.
Hey nothing wrong with that at all, especially when you are maximizing your potential yield from those. Too many people don't get any mold ever because they don't leave them long enough to build a potential for a large harvest and possibly a little black mold occasionaly!

Daaaamn that's crazy. I didn't know you could get mold from aphid secretions. That's fuckin' gross dude! Good job though. Not much you could do about the bugs that wouldn't mess ups the rest of the crop. Did you consider predictor bugs like lady bugs and praying mantis? People always talk about it but I'm not sure if it actually works. Also did you ever have problems with heat while you had them covered up? I used to live in the Madera Ranchos between Madera an Fresno and it was miserable hot. Anyways props on your plants, looks good dude

Thanks bro. Yeah Bayer citrus, fruit and vegetable is what gets rid of aphids for me. But I didn't notice them till flowering and I didn't want to put a systemic pesticide into the plants so close to harvest. They did well tho. They were rootbound and went through thrips, spidermites, and aphids lol. Survivors for sure. I have a powerful fan in their oscillating at all times and the blackout cover has four "lightproof" slits in each corner, so not many heat issues. I take the cover off at night, so that helps. I went to get ladybugs but they wont ship them to the local nurseries because of the heat right now. I have praying mantis around but they like bigger pray. Green lacewings have helped control the population too though. I used to go to the Ranchos and party like hell man lol. Fun times out there.

@codster25 Definitely better to have potent smoke with a larger yield and some little mold than to have a bunch of preemie buds laying around lol. I would have let mine go longer to really frost up, but the aphids almost were out of control. Now I am doing everything preventative to keep all pests at bay. Havent seen any spidermite damage since I started with the neem apps, seems to be working.

lady bugs work real good but theres a lot of variables to take into account when putting them on your plants....like time of day you do it spraying the plants with a light soap etc to keep them "sticking " on them at the start and not flying away etc....done properly they will work but its a effort

The HSH freebie in the front was planted maybe a week later and has surpassed everything in the greenhouse. Hopefully its a she. Imma need some supports.

Especially supports for these. Maybe a trellis screen above them before flowering so they can just grow into it. That is a little stumbleweed autoflower pheno in the lower right of the pic. Pilin' up the stash constantly.

Flowering for real now. Just need to supplement potassium because they need it.

Fresno,
The same exact thing happened to me last year. Freaking aphids! They went for all my sweet plants first. Nothing worked for long.

Vampires, sucked all the juice out so they couldn't finish.
Luckily this year has been better.
Organic soil and neem every 5 days has helped big time.
Now I have a shitload of those big green Beatles eating leaves.
Not nearly as bad as aphids though.

You mean the green fig beetles. Big shiny green junebugs? I had them Around here but they just came to my compost piles to lay eggs. They look cool but I have heard they can do signiicant damage. I just smashed them with a shovel lol. Aphids are a bitch in flowering. I now use bayer citrus, fruit, and vegetable on everything as a preventative for both aphids and white flies. I have not seen any more aphids since I started using it.

I got 2 distinct phenos from the HSH and a male. One that grows wide and bushy but has bright pink pisils. And another that is as lanky as any sativa iv seen and seems to have a very long flower time

Haha. Lets just hope so for now lol. They been flying like a mf'er lately. But more than likely they will count the 5 or 6 plants and move on. There are way bigger grows to worry about than my personal med garden.

Check out this stumbleweed bro. Friggin beast of a lady for a late start.downloadfile-41.jpeg

If you spray them with soda diluted with water their wings stick... release them in the afternoon and water the area before you let them go... they can't fly for a few days.. When the soda completely evaporates they can spread their wings again...by that time they should feel right at home if there is enough food.. Once it runs out they leave!!
