2000w White Russian Coco Grow

Hmm I don't think I would have to do that just cause coco changes PH rather quickly to wtvr the ph is of the water you are pouring through it.

Unlike soil where there is nutrients in the medium, which will affect the PH, coco is inert and will stay relatively close to the PH you set your water at.

I am new to coco for the most part but this is what I have heard.
kinda like doin 100% perilite as well, huh?

Relatively, only thing that might be different is water retention. Coco holds 8 to 10 times its weight in water I think so you probably don't have to water as much as you would using 100% perlite, which I assume dries out kinda quick because so much air can get through?

They are both inert tho so yeah they both work in the same concept.

So everything is going well and the plants seem to be growing pretty quickly.

I lowered the light yesterday, and then again today.

I have just been giving them water with roots excelurator in it.

Here are some pics, I just took close ups of the two biggest ones (7 and 8).

K well I decided I am not going to water them tonight and see how they do waiting another day.

Tomorrow I think I will start with some nutrients in the water; the plants look a little pale. I'm going to start at 1ml per gal just to be safe, then bring it up as they look like they need it. I am using the H&G Coco A/B.

Everything is go well though, they are all on their second set of leaves which all have three prongs.

So I started with nutrients today.

I gave them 1ml per gal of the Coco A/B and then 1ml per gal of the roots excelurator.

They look like they need it, I will probably up it to 2ml per gal the next time I water or the time after that. It all depends on whether they look like they need it or not.

Temps are around 75 when the light is on and 73 when it is off. The room is insulated to the point where the temperature doesn't change much throughout the day.

Humidity is around 65% during lights off then around 71% during lights on.

ya girls lookin real good my dude! i wanted to try the russian and coco so your grow is real tight +rep
Thanks man :) yeah you should definitely check out white russian. Awesome strain, yields a lot for an indica, and tastes like fruit roll up. Also, for anyone who wants to be put on their ass this is the strain that will do it.

Btw I like your name, peace out man.

K well I may have some experience but I am still completely new to Coco Coir.

I was told to treat it more like a hydro system than soil, watering once a day no matter what.

I have found this to beincorrect until the plants are bigger.

When you have seedlings or clones in 1 gallon pots just starting out, I would wait until the Coco dries out a bit in between each watering.

I think that me watering everyday has held my seedlings back a lot.

Roots "search for water", they don't like to just be handed it or else they get lazy.

When you want good root growth you let the medium your using go from being really wet to really dry so that as the medium dries out the roots go "searching for water" and grow.

This will ensure a nice healthy root ball....

Well I uprooted one of my seedlings because today it just didn't look healthy.

Sure enough there is almost no root growth, the thing had almost the same amount of roots coming out of the rockwool cube as two weeks ago when they first started out.

The fact I watered everyday made the seedlings lazy and now they have very small root structures.

Overall, because of this, the plants are slowing in growth and have been looking pale because their roots arn't growing and doing their job of absorbing what they need to (water and nutrients).

They don't appear to have root rot and from what I hear it is extremely hard to get root rot with coco anyways because of the large distance between the fibers and the fact that it allows air to get in after watering even though the fibers themselves hold a LOT of water.

Not sure what I'm going to do.....see how they look and hold off on the watering.

Here is the problem though, if I hold of on the watering the root structure will imporve but because the plants will continue to grow they will need nutrients that they won't be getting because I won't be watering.

I can't foliar feed because they are under the 600w light and will get burned for the most part.

But if I keep on watering to make sure the plants get what they need, the roots might get worse.....

I am stuck, but either way I am getting clones tomorrow just to make sure incase the seedlings hit the bucket.

I have learned my lesson and have decided to treat Coco just like soil in terms of watering.

I am using very fine coco not thick fibers or anything like that or those big bark looking pieces. I think those thicker fiber coco mixes are more suitable for watering all the time because there is so much space in between the pieces.

Anyways, hope things get better, but I am already behind on the schedule I wanted to be on so I can't wait any longer for these guys to turn around.

sorry to hear about the prob your havin! a friend of mine uses coir and he says u are correct it is more like soil it just dries slightly faster. so feeding every 2-3 days should be fine.

what's up man. i've enjoyed some of your previous threads... so i know ur journal will be interesting.

the inventory list indicated you've done something like this before. one thing you didn't mention is how you plan to water them?

anyhow... when i saw ur flower room i got the idea that you might be trying to copy me. :D ur room just reminds me of my own. but i've never used CO2.

i'm also growing the White Russian in perlite.

Yeah for sure I was at your place the other day taking pictures, lol....jk.

I have seen your journal and setup though, its really nice, way nicer than mine, way bigger obviously too heh.

You are right though, for the most part I am using the same stuff from before setup wise, just a different room and using coco instead of aero.

As for the watering, I ran into a problem the other day but am on my way to correcting it.

People say you should water your Coco everyday regardless of whether your plants need it or not because it is like a hydro system....then there are the people who treat it like soil and water when they look like they need it.

I kinda agree with both but it depends on the time because I was watering everday for my seedlings and it was obviously way too much, every other day would have been a lot better. Later in flowering I plan on watering everyday, maybe even twice a day near the end.

Anyways, luckily I didn't get any root rot because it is so hard to get it in Coco I definitely made the plant's roots lazy by watering so much and now they have shitty root balls and are looking gimp.

I threw some hygrozyme in with the nute water yesterday and it seems to be helping. They all look better today, more green and their growth rate has picked up a bit.

I plan on not watering for two days now and seeing how they do, if they look like they need it then I will water sooner.

Foor the most part I plan on watering every two to three days when I have seedlings or clones and then every one to two days during veg, and then every day maybe even twice a day during flowering.

Hope they start to look better but just in case they don't I am getting clones tomorrow so that I am not totally without something to grow....

So I waited two days before watering again and watered yesterday, and plan on waiting another two days before I water again (Tuesday). I definitely think waiting at least two days in between waterings is helping.

I gave them 240ml each of water that had: 1ml per gal of Roots Excelurator, 2.5ml per gal of Coco A/B, and 7ml per gal of Hygrozyme. It all came out to 570ppm and I dropped the Ph to 5.6

Like I said I am going to get clones just in case these seedlings don't make it, and next time I plan on waiting at least two to three days in between waterings, or start out with a smaller pot size.

Ohh and I already up-rooted four of the seedlings to take a look at the roots to try and diagnose a problem and it was definitely over watering because there was such minimal root growth in two weeks it is a joke. They didn't appear to have root rot, the roots just looked super soggy and weak, probably on their way to getting root rot.

The ones I killed were not looking good anyways, not to mention they were the ones that took longer to germinate and had slower growth overall so therefore must have been weaker phenotypes so I don't really care about having had to up-root them.

i know what you mean about watering too much and getting 'lazy roots'. it's deffinitely not doing them any favors by over-watering. and any extra root mass that you can get helps to sheild the plant from undersirable conditions. which i often tend to create :D

Hopefully these will turn around because I have slowed down the watering but I am not totally sure if they will.

With the new clones I get I am definitely going to hold back on the watering and I don't think I will run into the same problems.

Thanks for the input man, and btw your grow is looking clean as hell good job man. :joint:

Turns out my landlord is not allowing this sort of thing to take place here, regardless of medical cards or not....

I am not going to argue with them over what is right or not because it just draws extra attention.

Trying to figure out something with a friend but for now I am have to take the whole room down. Now it doesn't even matter what condition the seedlings are in cause I have to ditch them...

This sucks big time.
