Lets start from the top..

250W HPS and about 4 15 w Flourescents
I am running a home made aeroponic system, here is the basic design,

http://www.alternative-innovation.com/free-how-to-build-aeroponic-hydroponic-system-plan.html

Aside from a few modifications, the system is great.

The 2 Trainwreck and Purple Kush are Indicas, while the Sensi Star is Sativa.

Here are a few pics of the system area, the misters, and the roots forming....Im so proud.

Here are some pics of the 3 week in system, Vegative state..
These 2 are the Trainwreck

This is the Sensi star

This is the Purple Kush, it has been VERY tempermental.. But it's trying..

Well , hope you enjoy. Post new pics next week.... Mr Aero

looks excellent,, +rep bro, also are you using anything for root protection? i became hygrozyme's number 1 advocate, its like a condom for your roots just incase temps climb over 75F you will have nasty problems

also may i make a quick recommendation? i used those 360 sprayers you have, i found they break too easily and some of them dont even spray just drip cus the holes are fucked, i think you should invest in ez clone heads, they cost about a buck each but well worth it

Got a question for you-

Im starting my first Grow - and i was going to build a AeroPonic system similar to the one you have.

Was wondering if you run the pump 24-7, or do you have it go on and off on a timer - and if so - what's your time schedule?

Also -

I was thinking of making a system that is both Aero (water splashing the roots from below) ...

...as well as a drip feed (water being dripped constantly from the top then draining down into the Res)

In your opinion is have both going at the same time overkill?

Or would it benefit the growth somehow...

Thanks in advance

it wouldn't be overkill, just a hybrid. combo's often work better than any one technique alone.

thats interesting but if you built an aero system like the tub here, it already is a combo, instead of drip/aero you would have aero/deep water culture, it doesnt take long for the roots to get long enough to be submerged in the water

I run my pumps 24/7. I have spoken with people that like a timer, but in my opinion, the chamber needs to remail humid and full of nutrients. Overkill with the drip, maybe over watered..lol... I had a challenge with the purple kush being too wet in the begining, and put her on a 15 on 15 off timer for a week, gave her a MAG Amp, and she kicked right back. I have also had to change teh position of the water bar w sprayers as to not over saturate the baskets...
You could always do a single chamber system and put a airstone on the bottom to give oxygen to those water reaching roots. But I preffer the pure aero

I will updat pics tomorrow or the next day, the growth rate is INSANE... They are at 30 in strong, and the Kush at 15 in.... They have skyrocketed 4 in in 2 days.... GET YOUR AEROPONICS ON GENTLEMEN!!!

Heat is the #1 reason people run the pump on a timer.

Theoretically aeroponics will provide enough o2 to the roots, that they should not need a "drying out" time, like as is required with soil or ebb and flow hydroponics.

However, it seems that the problem isn't the lack of o2, but the fact that when roots are soaked consistently, they tend to mat together. When the roots are fluffy and spread out, they grow many tiny little white hairs that are very effective at absorbing water, nutes and o2. When they become matted, you will see less of these fine root hairs and the plants will not grow as fast.

So, the #2 reason would be to allow the roots time to dry out, not to provide o2 in and of itself, but to allow the roots to "fluff up" again(which they will not do if being sprayed constantly).
MrAero,
I quoted myself from a different post. I read an extremely boring, very scientific article about aeroponics. This is one piece of information that I found very interesting and I do believe that since I've been using the timer, I've seen a much nicer root mass with finer, whiter hairs.

Mr I Can Do That For Half
Another satisfied aero grower. I have posted over the years many of my aero grows and how to setups. Those mister heads you got are trouble I have posted links to get better ones for under a buck each online. I dislike stacked tubs though as they eat a ton of room and are a big pain in the ass. Plants look good though.Keep water temp around 65-68 degrees and ph 5.5-5.8 max. I veg in aero for no more then 10 days with indicas as they will be good foot tall by then and finish around 2-3 feet very heavy so consider a net trellise to help hold plants up during flower

Great advice, +rep.
PH, though may be genetically dependent, though. I've been growing B52 from Nirvana, and if they stay below 5.8, they show cal-mag deficiencies. I've also grown some bag seeds that did much better around 5.5.
