18/6 vs 24

Which way makes your plant grow faster, constant 24 hour light or 18 hour light and 6 dark?
24/0 there's no argument except that it uses more electricity. Your lights will last longer (total hours wise) if left on. The start up arcing erodes electrode surfaces.

the off period allows your plants to focus its stored energy or developing the root system. Sometimes people who do 24/0 end up with top heavy plants, which is not bad, you'll just have you use something to support your learning plant, but a good root system is key to prolific flowering

I run 18/6 mainly cuz the power bill like most others running 18/6. But I also thought it would save hours on ur bulbs, at least if ur a CFL user. It does make sense though for HIDs, as gettin those things fired up over and over and over would wear em out, both the ballast and the bulb.

That's right^ I think it's good to use 18/6 cause your plants and light get a chance to rest.
But yes 24/0 is better and faster.

actually I first heard about the erosion thing for florescent, HID are basically the same in that they have a high voltage arcing at startup. I heard a guesstimate of 20 % longer life which is about the same as the 6 hours extra so it's basically the electricity your only paying for. When your growing money trees that's not a concern.

U can actually hear em start up too, u know its suckin some juice too. My power bill isn't outrageous anyway, think it went up like 5 bucks a month usin my lil 400w. but still, bulbs can be spendy, and though it is basically a money tree, personally, I do it for my own use, but then again, it's nice to know u could make some dough as well. Say my bulb burned out, shit better sell a little and get another asap. I should really have a spare now, gotta get one.
