I'm glad there still good :D. What companies did you purchase them from? Also how tall of they? :)
thanks man. i got the clones from a dispensary in santa cruz california. they were about 4 inches tall (3-4 nodes) when i got them, in rockwool. then i transplanted them only once to 1-gallon containers with good drainage. haven't measured them but i can estimate purple d came up to about 15 inches, and sour d somewhere around 18-20 inches. i'm sure they would've been much bigger if i'd gotten 5-gallon containers, but for my first grow i wanted to keep it under control :)

Wow your sourD looks spectacular! I'm growing a sourD also right now about three weeks into flowering it's nice to see what the future holds....your like a Ms. Cleo to me Homer! I have an iPhone tho so I don't think I can post pictures :( looks like you'll be smoking some purple soon good job m8
hey dude, glad you can use my grow as a crystal ball for yours :) . you should totally post pictures -- at least take lots of pictures and save them for later. it's a great way to keep track of how your plants are changing. good advice micro.grower gave me.

why is the iphone a problem? if you're worried about security, you can use a free program like PhotoFiltre to re-save the files and choose to NOT preserve the "EXIF/IPCTC" data. that makes your pick not trackable. anyway, all my pics are from my camera phone, and i think they're not bad. although it would've been great to have a real camera to zoom in on those trichs. i keep trying to shoot through the 60x scope length, but it's nearly impossible...

hey guys,

here are the latest pics of purple d i took last night. i'm planning to chop her this afternoon, although i might just chop one branch today and do the rest in a few days. it's a combination of not being sure if she's 100% ripe and also it just plain sucks to chop her down :(

she's 7 weeks old today. if you think i should let her go any longer, let me know before 2pm california time!!

thanks for watching & any comments, always appreciated.

Looks done to me brotha!! If the lower buds look the same as the bigger bud you posted a close up of, I would just take the whole thing one branch at a time :)

Do you have a dry box setup yet or an area to dry it? Don't forget you should chop it right before the lights come on and plan on your whole house smelling for at least a few hours if you don't have something for odor.. "That depends on the strain too though."

Let me know if you have anymore questions, it only took my girls between 4-6 days to dry. I waited until the outside of the bud got crispy to the touch and then put it in jars.. Just make sure if its really wet to leave the jar open for a few hours to prevent mold. Anyway that was a basic description. If you need anymore help lmk!

hey, thanks for the reply man. i didn't end up chopping today because i couldn't make the time, and also because looking at the trichs with 60x scope, they look clear or milky, but barely any amber yet. so i decided to water her one more time and chop her later in the week.

can i ask you a couple questions...

1) why is it better to chop before lights on? does something change in the plant when lights are on that makes it harder to dry or something?

and

2) this is my low-tech drying box...
dry_box1.jpg

since my sour d still will still be going for another week and i don't have another good stealthy part of my apartment besides the one closet where i'm growing, i was going to dry purple d in the same closet while i'm finishing sour d. the idea was to keep the open side of the box facing away from the direct light, and have the in-closet fan going stronger to create some indirect ventilation. do you think that will work? or is the indirect light (and possible humidity) gonna cause problems?

thanks again man, definitely appreciate your suggestions. can't wait for this thing. oh and to answer your other question, yeah pretty much all the buds look the same. maybe the very bottom ones look a little less ripe, but almost all of them are at the same stage as the big one in the pic.

peace bro

That's exactly what my friend is doing now :). Less root space limits the plant size, he is also lst'ing it, and it looking great :). I would leave the Purple D for a bit longer, just another week if possible. It will be sad to pull, I always feel like I just lost a friend when I do. :(

yeah, i think i hit it on the nail with the 1-gallon containers... bigger would have been a little overwhelming for my first grow, both in terms of lighting needs, smell, and final yield -- just looking for personal amount (and maybe a few small gifts). with the 1-gallon container, a little topping, and a little lst, the purple d stayed about 12 inches tall, and sour d about 18.

i'm finally able to see some amber trichs on the purple d (unfortunately can't get my camera to focus through the scope lens, so i can't show any pics). plus it has this frosty look about it that seems to be telling me she's ready. i might start chopping today.

so, what's the reason chopping before lights on is good?

peace

From my understanding, thats when it builds up resin. "when the lights are off.."

I've even heard more than one person say if you take 2 plants of the same strain and growing conditions and leave one in 36hrs of dark before chop and 1 just let it go for the 12 hours.. Supposedly the longer dark period before chopping increases the resin production, I haven't had any direct experience with this method yet but I plan to try it eventually...

As for the dry box, you should be fine! Make sure you get some pics up when you harvest :) I want to give it a look..

Oh and one more thing, I tried trimming the "sugar leafs" before and after the bud dried and it seems to be a lot easier to just do all the trimming right after you take it down. Plus let her dry out for a few days before you harvest because that will cut down on drying time!!! Let us know how it goes and good luck!

thanks for the excellent advice bro. i'll do what you suggest for trimming sugar leaves. i already have the cheese cloth ready to go, so while the buds are drying, i'll be making some sugar butter :):leaf:

makes sense about the 36-hour dark period. i might not be able to achieve 100% darkness for purple d during the day part when sour d is still going, but i'll try to hide most of the light. i figure low-light is better than high-light, right?

here they are side by side, purple and sour (51 days since 12/12):

and dude, you can be SURE i'll post harvest pics! hopefully that goes smoothly and mold-free.

i'll catch up on your grow now, all your plants look amazing.

ok, operation 36-hours-of-darkness is in progress. today, purple d gets no light, tomorrow morning i chop!

meanwhile, sour d is finishing up nicely after a week+ of flushing. posting pictures in a minute.

id see how its looking in 6 days, lots of white hairs not receeding yet. that usually means you still have some growth going on.

i hear ya tokeandrelax. i'll check on her status in 4 days and see if she's ready for the 36 hours of darkness (death row).

the thing is, i sort of have to chop her within about a week because of some travel plans -- i need to make sure the buds are dry and ready for 5 days inside jars before i leave town. giving myself two weeks to dry + cure to that point. hopefully that'll be enough time.

Not sure dude, guessing somewhere between 1/2 and 1 ounce per plant. I'll be reporting wet and dry weight, starting with the purple d tomorrow :)

hey no worries at all man, happy to share all this stuff. here are pics of the two girls on aug 29 (the day after i switched to 12/12). you can see my failed FIM attempt on purple d, she survived it though :)

purple d -- i'd guess 6-8 inches tall here (final height 12 inches)
p_aug30.jpg

and sour d, about 10-12 inches tall here (final, 18 inches)
s_aug30.jpg

they definitely did stretch after switching 12/12, but not quite doubled in height. i had to do some lst on sour d to keep the top buds from getting out of control high. but that probably depends on the strain. yours is on the indica side, right?
