12/12 from seed using CFL's. NLxBig Bud and many many others!

NLxBB showing red on my fertometer still so flushed a gallon and a bit of water through. Trying to make the soil less 'hot' Also put in some Co2 mix sealed (I hope) and removed my exhaust fan. There is something clearly wrong with my set up so have to make some changes to see what will work. If this now gets too hot may have to have a total rethink about growing in a room without direct A/C which means dismantling the entire grow but if it does not work what is the point?

Today I tried something. Took my soil/coco mix and flushed it for an hour under running tap water. Afterward the ph was too high so used white spirit vinegar mixed with water to lower to 6.7 or so. Now am leaving the waterlogged results to dry a little before decided what to put in it. Perhaps the FCJ when it gets big enough.
That covers as many of the bases as to what could be going wrong as I can think of right now. Maybe later I'll take some pics with my mobile phone to show the set up and plants so you can see for yourself what the current set up looks like.

Thinking of quitting the 12/12 and going to a more conventional grow. My plants are so small I wouldn't want to force flower them as it just wouldn't be worth it. Also thinking of binning the NLxBB and going with the other 2 but probably won't as I'm stubborn like that.

lol you know i did the same thing. i read the thread by dell666 and got all excited but the turn out was not my cup o tea.. not worth the hassle n time. ill get more out of clones than a seed going 12/12 from start but dell666 has some serious girls in his journals so different stroke's i guess.

As it is now it is looking the same way for me. Have moved my grow into a place with A/C and have seen a real improvement in temps already. Getting 84 degrees with lights and A/C on and 80-82 with lights and A/C off. Keeping an oscillating fan going 24/7. The new room has more Co2 cos I spend a lot more time in it so I'm hoping it could work on that level too.

The last thing that worries me is the medium. Seems nice enough but you never know. Could be that was the problem all along. We will see. Have a funny feeling the temps were the issue tho.

Finally I've decided to buy a small (250w) dual spectrum HPS and hood. Will cost me about $140 but I think cheaper and better yields for 12/12 in the long run. Hoping to have it installed for flowering in 2 weeks at which time I'll ask mods to move this thread. Sorry but CFL's are just too 'fiddly' for me as I have a bunch of bulbs and wires going everywhere and hooks and chains and they bump and obscure the plant and I have to adjust them all the time.

Just too much hassle.

So the NLxBB has been taken out of the tent. Even after I repotted it tonight I noticed a couple of the same little winged bugs crawling about in the coc/soil after I watered. It was the final straw. Moved it on out for a quick berial at a later date. Not sure what the bugs were but they were real small and had big wings. Either way the plant is gone and now am thinking about germing yet another seed. Hindu Kush this time. so I have used 6 seeds and have 2 plants on the go. Not been great so far but a few lessons learned I hope.

Holy seedling problems dude! I have never heard so many problems with seeds? And also giving nutes to seedlings is the kiss of death !! Good luck!!

Just bad luck really but probably as you say.

So the Hindu Kush is germed slowly. Tap root starting to show. Put it back in paper towel inside jar and in warm dark place. Should be ready by sunday.
The Moby dick is looking ok and growing pretty fast. Shows a little of a deficiency but not too bad and have to look it up to see how ferts needs adjusting.

The plant is no longer a seedling and growing quickly. Will probably give it a good feed and a drink soon as have to leave them for a few days soon.
My newly flushed soil is drying out nicely might flush some coco and add a bit in to make the mix lighter and less dense. Especially when wet.

Going to carry on 12/12 through this grow but will probably change to HPS light set up in a couple of weeks. Temps are now under control.

So the Moby Dick is growing nicely now temps are sorted out. Showing a slight cal/mag def so will have to sort that out next feeding. Have to be careful not to overdo it. Will be away for just over a week soon so have to raise the lights, water them up and hope for the best!

When I come back as long as they are alive I can take some pics.

Now I'm seeing these tiny winged black things crawling about in my coco. Not sure what they are but there is already a lizard living in my bedroom so I managed to catch it and put it in the grow tent. Once there its only food source will be the various pests that live in my coco/soil and other things coming in. There is an easy way out for it if it needs to leave but I suspect it may like it there as it is warm and bright. They LOVE bright lights. Hoping it can do a good job and wipe out these funny looking things in my coco. It just needs to stop diving off the wall of the tent in a panic when I open the tent door and everything will be fine.

So I have to leave my babies for a while. Have raised bulbs and fed the Moby Dick with full strength Maxibloom with a little 25/5/5 solution to get her growing. The FCJ seedling is not doing much so I gave her some plain water. The Hindu Kush is yet to emerge but have 3 bulbs ready to shine when she does come to the surface. The lizard I put in the tent has disappeared. Hopefully digesting a large meal of these little flying things in the soil. Most likely escaped through the venting tho.

Fingers crossed for when I get back!

So I just got back from a trip away. Came back to find my Moby Dick had grown impressively into the lights and got burnt a decent amount. The FCJ is not growing at all. Looks dead on the vine. The Hindu Kush never broke ground.
The good news is that I found some bagseed in a couple of high end new strains and will now use these 6 seeds from 2 different strains to grow another 1 or 2 plants. Not expecting much. The fact that I got seeds in the weed means that the genetics on the strain are not stable yet (probably). The weed itself was grown very well.

So I have 4 seeds from Chocolope Kush and another 2 from a plant I'm not so sure about. Will keep you posted. They are all germinating now.

Checked my germinating seeds and found the 2 together. The unknown strain shot out very big tap roots already so I planted them in coco/soil/perlite inside a rockwool cube. The 4 Chocolope Kush had taproots forming but not long enough to plant until tomorrow I'm thinking. The idea is to get get one good Chocolope Kush plant out of the 4 seeds and get lucky getting a decent female out of the other 2.
Having never grown bagseed before should be good practice checking for sex every other day in about a months time:weed:

As before the investigation into what plant could have had the other 2 seeds continues. If I can get 2 decent females out of the 6 bagseed this grow might just end up going ok. Right now only have 1 healthy plant about to go into flower. Could do with vital and quick growing friends so that Xmas can be a happy one.

Also have decided for now that I cannot be bothered with getting a HPS lighting kit. That could change in time too.

Tonight I created a vegging/seedling area. Basically it is an area where I can get 24/0 of bright white light to my underground seedlings until they are ready to go into the 12/12 room. I figure this might be a LOT quicker than putting them in the 12/12 area from seed. Also I have not had much success with my seedlings in my 12/12 cab except for one plant the rest have all died as seedlings or failed to germinate properly.

There is no temp control just good airflow and lots and lots of 6500k lighting that will assault the senses of the seeds as they emerge. The best thing is I have room for 6 seedlings in my new area which will be perfect if all 6 seeds germinate properly. Quite excited until all my new seeds turn out to be hermie/male!

Finally today has pics! This one is the Moby dick. My only surviving plant:-o Gave it some nutes today KISS formula with a little 25/5/5 mix thrown in cos I saw some purpling of the stems. That is 2 nutes in a row now which is not what I usually do but I think this one might be a hungry plant that needs more nutes.

Moby Dick.jpg

Checked my germinating seeds today and found all the Chocolope Kush have good taproots. Planted them all as above in my new seedling/vegging area. They will remain on 24/0 until ready for Flower room. 24 hours of dark then into the flower tent for 12/12

So with 6 seeds safely buried and 6500k's hovering over each I made sure airflow was decent and now it is time to wait and wonder what went wrong with the early part of my grow.

I've now been at it for almost 2 months and defo have another 2 to go with only 1 viable plant to show for my efforts.
One thing that sticks is that at my soil was probably too hot. Especially for seedlings. Also I forgot to flush my coco properly. Also I left my coco outside to dry after flushing and I think it got contaminated.

Now with soil that is not so hot and seeds protected inside rockwool I'm hoping the results could be better. We will see. Not having access to the usual sources I suppose this was never going to be easy but I think I'm getting there with this grow. Learning a lot. Have mastered temp and RH control. Now I need to work on a winning soil/coco mix.

Let's have a look at the set up. It is a Secret Jardain tent. The smallest one they make for flowering. I figure at a push I can fit 4 plants in there although the plan is for no more than 3. We'll see how greedy/lucky I get later.

the set up.jpg

Added another two 45w warm white bulbs after that pic was taken.

Might upload more pics later if I can bothered. I phone pics though so they are crap.

So 2 of my 6 seedlings have shown their heads! Both the mystery seeds. One is looking a bit crappy but the other looks strong enough for now. We will see. I've had problems with seedlings this time! Moby Dick is doing OK although showing signs of nute burn. Next water will be just that. Plain water.

Watered my seedling a little bit to make sure rockwool is staying moist. Hope I didn't leave it too long. Pics later when there is more to see.

Good luck with the new seedlings. I hope you can get your set up working again. I'm about to get my tent and new light to start my second grow.
