Howdy Dank! Stopped by to check out your grow. Looking good!! Are you using nutes at all? I'm subbed. Keep up the good work!
Yeah i was using nutes for awhile but nothing special...just some cheap 15-30-15 for flower from home depot.

Thanks for following my grow man!

Oh and another thing I forgot to mention on my update...

Since the top cola buds seem about ready and the bottom buds are not close to being ready...do you guys think i should chop the main colas that are done and leave the lower ones for a couple more weeks and let them mature? I dont know if that would work or not...Ive heard mixed opinions on that one. So if you guys have any thoughts/experience with that please share!

Thats what I want to do as well. But I don't know if it will hurt growth.
Yeah Ive heard some say it will stress the plant to the point where it might just die...and others have said that they think that method actually increases their yield. I dont know what to do though. But Ive been thinking and I mean if the lower buds do die after i chop the main colas, what am I really losing? I would have lost the same amount just from the lower buds not being mature enough to harvest anyways. So I think I might let my girl go a week more and then chop the colas and see what happens...unless someone on here can change my mind lol.

I cant remember which one, but i was reading a post the other day about just this same thing. The grower actually harvested different branches at different times depending on how they progressed. He did well on his yield. Ima thinking that the plant will redirect its energy towards what is left in order to survive. Weed overall seems pretty hardy.

Yeah Ive heard that as well...the plant will redirect all its energy to the buds that are left and might actually increase yield a little...at least I hope thats what will happen!! haha
Thanks the the input.

hey dank, 1/2 oz is nothing to be ashamed of for your first grow! and it'll be the sweetest 1/2 oz you've ever smoked, trust me on that one :)

you got any pics of the whole plant, just to see how it's been progressing? also, are you planning a straight flush before you chop? they say about 8-10 days flush is ideal, plus you'll want to chop about 2-3 after the last watering so the plant is a bit dryer to begin.

as for harvesting at different times, i say go for it! you don't have much to lose... even if the plant "dies" after the main colas are gone, the remaining "dead" buds will still be fine and smokable.

Thanks Homer...I know it will be awesome to smoke my own home grown dank, I cant wait.

Yeah I'll take her out and snap a few pics when I get a chance. Gotta wait for my camera battery to charge...and I have work pretty soon. But later today I will

I never thought of it that way...I guess I wouldnt lose anything! Awesome. I'm gonna chop the colas probably in the next 3-5 days.

Thanks again though man for all the help

Oh and Homer...i flushed about two weeks go...
And i havent fed her any nutes since. I just figured she'd be ready around 7 weeks or so and i didnt really know how to do it. So i just wanted to play it safe and go a week early on the flush. And i watered her today for the last time until i chop the colas. I think i'm going to harvest the colas on 12/19 and leave the bottom popcorn to mature a little.

Ok here are some pics...day 49 into flower.
Oh and also i just trimmed some big fan leaves near the bottom of the plant to get some of those inner buds get some light. That's why she look so small haha

Sounds good dankman. On second look, I guess you could push it another week or so, if you wanted to, you might get a little more swelling. Have you taken a look at the trichs? I got a 60x scope for like $5 and that was plenty.

Also have you decided how you're gonna trim & dry? I recommend the close trim (save the sugar leaves), then dry method, thigh to be honest that's the only one I've tried lol. But keep a close eye when you dry to male sure you don't overdo it. A small plant like you have should be dry in 3-4 days (depending on humidity and ventilation, but ballpark)

I pretty much have to chop on the 18th...that's the latest because i'll be out of town for the holidays and all that fun stuff from the 22nd to the 27th and I have to give the bud time to dry.

And no i havent looked at the trichs. I need to go get a scope somewhere. Where did you get yours for $5?

I dont really know too much about trimming. I was planning on just getting as close as i can to the bud with scissors and drying it like that and let the sugars dry too. I dont know though...what's the close trim and dry method you're talking about?
I was planning on saving the sugar leaves for iso hash or cannabutter...but those are the only things i know how to make really...lol.

You can get a hand held microscope over at radio shack for $20.. Man don't cut unless you have no choice, borrow a microscope if you need to man. When your trichomes are 80% cloudy w/40% amber, the plant at it's peak, that's when I cut...

man if you're waiting for 80% cloudy w/40% amber it's gonna take a while :) . just fucking with you man.

yeah, i had to chop mine a little early, back in november for similar reasons. you'll be fine. i think i ordered my scope on ebay for like $5 plus $2 shipping or something. it'll come in handy for the next grow. and yeah that's exactly what i meant by trimming & drying. some people leave the sugar leaves on while drying, which slows the drying, but also increases risk of mold.

canna butter is the way to go with the dry sugar leaves. that's what i did with mine... i had about 8 grams. well worth it. i posted my recipe here:

Oh yeah I read somewhere that some people do it that way. What i dont get is if something makes drying LONGER and INCREASES your chance of mold...why do it? haha

Oh and how did you dry the sugar leaves?

hehe, yeah i guess drying too quickly is bad for a number of reasons, so some people look to extend the drying process. and i guess it develops a better smell that way as well... anyway for me (my first grow) it wasn't worth the risk. so i trimmed first.

drying the sugar leaves -- easy, just spread them out on a piece of cardboard or in a large paper bag. shake them around once or twice a day, and they should be dry enough to cook with in 2 or 3 days.

I forgot to mention, alot of growers when they are at 50% cloudy w/50% clear for a more uplifting effect. On my first harvest I kept the leaves on for the entire dry time, 9-10 days, then I trimmed the bud and placed them in pint mason jars for the cure, and the cure does make all the difference in the high, taste, smell and keeps it real fresh and sticky. I had no mold issues. Keep in mind, the bud should be stored in the fridge in a dark container or in a cool/dark location

Nice looking plant!! I wish mine looked like that lol. She did, until something happened to her, and now she is bald of leaves lol. Oh well, I learned lol. Good luck on the harvest! I bet it's going to be some kick ass smoke!
