10.0 Uvb Light

Serious Smoker I've got half a dozen lizard tubes and a 160W spot, I've run several grows with 250W UVB. IMHO - and many will disagree - there is not a light that puts out a high enough percentage UVB, and not a light that can be kept far enough from the plants to run in tandem with an HID.

UVB light will work to produce more trichomes and more cannaboids but, the benefits do not justify the expense with the current technology. Perhaps with an expert grower in lab like conditions but not for us average growers. I'm waiting for a combined HPS/UVB or a higher percentage UVB light that works from a distance.

alright well I have read the reason for the trich development is for protection from sun and pests. So if the sun stimulates trich production with uvb rays and a metal halide puts out uvb I thought, instead of switching to a hps i just flowered with the mh. Now i know this sounds weird but all 4 different types started producing trichs at week two-three on a 9 week run. They had more trich development than pistil development at first. . .the leaves were coated before main flower growth.

I've been running since early 08 and i have not seen this type of early trich formation ever.

. . .Also there are a lot of factors. I upgraded to 7 gallon smart pot, bought a ppm/ph meter, using mycopia/humic/kelp, as well as using techno flora recipe for success.

Now i run a 600 hps and a 400 mh vert with the plants surrounding. I call it the wall of green. I'll update you on the final survey.

Hi guys

In about a week or so i am starting to grow my first lady.(Purple kush) good stuff too xD. THe whole project is going to in my closet btw.
i was planning to use the hydro and areoponic system. Hydro, i'll be using till my roots touches the water then i would use aero till im finish.
i was planing to use those 5 gallon buckets. Around the bucket i was planning to set a rectangular box, about 60in hight and 25in in length. In side will be covered with aluminum foil.
I was also going to cut a small hole about 5x5 or so and set up a fan. above i cut another 5x5 hole, net it and use as a vent. On another side of the box i was going to cut a 15x10 hole and turn it into a window and set a heater in front of the glass. ABove i was plaing to use my 60w ballast but putting in a 10.0 repti Glo.

welcome to rui.

This thread is for uv light so i'll answer that first. Yes that light will do. Limit the exposure to 15 minutes on each day and then see where you need to go from there. That light is intense. Most use 20 watts so keep it about 2 feet away and then go from there. You should see results, in flower only (for trich production).

As to the other stuff i suggest you go here https://www.rollitup.org/view.php?pg=faq. Then go here https://www.rollitup.org/newbie-central/ then go here https://www.rollitup.org/grow-room-design-setup/

That will definitely fix you up.

Nice thread folks. I was wondering if anyone has heard of the SunPulse 10K lamps for Digital E-Ballasts? I was looking at them in the shop and wanted to research them before spending $140 on one. I would be replacing one of my two 600W HPS lights for this 10K lamp. also was wondering if you had any side by side comparisons of plants with and without the UV lights.
Thanks and Cheers!

hey there all, i've made an account just to say thanks
the information given here is everything i would like to ask, but already answered
will check everyday for updates, and when my girls enter the flowering ill post pics
thanks again and keep up the good job, this forum ROCKS!

I have a 10x10 ft room, 8 feet high. I have 2 1000whps 4 feeyt inwards from walls in centered line, one 600 MH inbetween the 1000w's and at a foot below them. I have a 3 level stadium, not collisium, a stadium, looks like football stadium ya know. bleachers on all four sides with a 1-2ft gap to enter the center. I got with this setup, my first time, 3.4 LBS and that was with PH mistakes, nutrient over/under/ lockout not sure all I know is I was asking a million Q's at growq store and they never had to help same q's twice. so I fixed problems quick as possible. Also this is my 3rd run, summer sucked only 2.5LBS because i DIDN'T USE AN a/C i JUST IMTERMITTENT my lights andf lost alot of the wieght with such hot air intake and room. This time I have H&G everything, drip clean has fixed a problem occuring with my soil PH going catty wompus. I am into week 6 today, so shooting powder, week 1 I added bud bloood, 2-end of week 4 big bud, and week 5 was H&G top boooster and bud xl for 3 days. then just bud xl caries on into shooting powder. also I will be using roots exculerator in shooting powder. Anyways Onto UVB. I have 4 cfl 26w 10.0vb reptile bulbs. One is in each corner set in twards center of room a bit and each one is showering top buds on tope and middle shelf excellently, sure some makes it about a foot lower to bottom shelf top buds. I do have a 5th uvb cfl in a lamp in center of floor to subject lower plants with it too, but that one is kinds be hitting from bottom up[ on the lower plants. still ok tjhough. Well to say ytou cant see a difference is wrong. I see huge differences. my uvb's start when plants are rooting into the final pots in flower room before switching to flower when still small. You don't want to overdo it, I start at 1-2 min intervals, my timer is 7 time cycles a day, runs the same program day in and day out. I workj my way up to 12-20 mins. So my lights come on at 7pm and go off at 7am. ( I work up adding a minute to each uvb cycle every 4 days or so about week 3-4 I am at full)at 10pm uvb lights at full amount are on 12 mins, then 11pm they go for 15mins, 12am is 17 mins, and the plants solar noon is actually 1am because light cycle is 7-7, at 1am they on for 20mins. then it goes back down the same way, to effect them like nature, as best as we can. I researched alot before I started. You Do not want to leave them on continuously, UVB on the equator is only as powerful as a reptile bulb at noon, besides the point is to try and burn, hurt them, then they heal crystalize ect. Seems much more crystal covered. I have one starain starts with purple in buds, ended with purple in buds, Nowe with UVB at halfway the coating of crystal has rid of any visible purple, and yeah, I plan on using uvb always. And I would reccomand the 10.0 uvb and hang them vert. don't put them closer than 8 inches as the heat could stress the plants. hot heat emitting the reptile bulbs. Cheers Go House and Garden, easiest nutes to use, PH, and the results are the best, but to be fair I added bud blood, big bud into thier egime, now shooting powder HEHE Fucking Eh!

Will to of these work http://www.amazon.com/12-DUAL-UV-CATHODE-COMPUTER/dp/B000JQ17WK/ref=pd_bxgy_e_img_a for growing in a box in this case a computer case.Ill be using lowryder #2 strain. I'd also have 4 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002FQHYTC/ref=ord_cart_shr?ie=UTF8&m=AISFWZQJ85MSG at the top. With the uv lights running down verticly in opposite corners the box will also be covered in mylar. Will the mylar effect the uv rays? Also how long should I run the uv lights for everyday asuming they will work.

You need to get the good mylar, the cheap stuff you buy at walmart will break down over time from the UV light.
Try using SnowStorm with your UVB light, smowstorm works well as a foliar spray or in your nutes, and using the UVB lights gives you great results.

Do they make any non terrabad UVB CFLs? The back of the box of the Reptisun ones show that they produce mostly green light on their little spectro-thing graph. Is this just a lie so people like it more for their green bugs? or does it really produce like 99% of its light in the green zone?

I would like to know if there is some law against producing the CFLs with zero filtration (pure UV) cuz that is what I want! I have a very limited space

I just saw this thread for the first time and will say now that I didn't read everything so this may be old news. I have been involved in some research at the university I attend (I'm a horticulture major) and we are finding that UV light is a much more important part of the spectrum for plants than anyone ever thought. We have been doing some comparisons in high tunnels (unheated greenhouses) with tomatoes and the amount of antioxidants produced. When grow solely in a hightunnel that is glazed with uv filtering polyethylene, tomatoes have a low amount of antioxidants. When grown without the UV filtering, the tomatoes produced a much higher amount of antioxidants. Apparently antioxidants are a product of stress from uv light. I would assume mary jane is the same way. I don't know that it produces antioxidants but the idea of "trichome sunscreen" seems very plausible to me.

The research we are doing is to find out how much uv exposure plants need to produce these extra goodies. This has a lot of interest from high tunnel growers because high tunnels increase yield and reduce disease so they are very desireable but perhaps there are reasons to use direct sunlight as well.

Real cute, I need help here.

Someone else suggested pH fluctuations for twisted leaves and maybe brown spots. But I've been pHing the water to 6.3 - 6.5.

But assuming for a second that those things are pH problems, then what about the leaves that are almost cut in half. Could the UVB have dried out the leaves bad enough to allow wind damage like that from my fan?

Any other ideas?
nute burn.

Hey everyone, I know this isn't really the right thread for plant problems, but no one else seems to know what UVB damage looks like.

I think I also have another problem or two including some nute burns on one plant, but I have to figure out what is UVb damage before I can diagnose the rest.

About 4 days ago I started them on UVB. I slowly moved them closer until they were about 21", I'm using two 10.0 UVB bulbs (18"). They were fine for the first couple of hours so I stopped checking on them every 15 minutes and I paid for it. I checked 2 hours later and many of the younger leaves were curled.

I took most of the curled leaves when I took clones the next day since most of the young leaves were low on the plant. And I haven't turned the UVBs back on yet.

Can you take a look at the pics and let me know if you can identify anything that could be UVB damage?

Thanks and +rep for help.
Either nute burn or they're still too young for that amount of UVB you've expose them to.

Long time lurker, first time poster. I am doing my first indoor garden in a BCNL Producer about 3.5 weeks into flower and found this video from the marijuana man on another forum, I think many posters referred to it earlier but its no longer on you tube so those links don't work.

Anyways that video and all these awesome UVB threads have inspired me to buy a Reptisun 10 UVB 26 W CFL which will target a few plants on one side of my garden. I'm growing Purple Kush clones and they already have a good amount of clear trichomes on all buds and surrounding leaves, so I am hoping the plants targeted by this bulb get extra frosty. Thanks everyone for all the research and experimentation and for sharing!
