have one smilier doesn't produce much heat i use it because i am making seeds want the best possible environment,but have to say the buds were stickier than usual

I used 80w of 10.0 fluoro tubes in my grows and had some real dank herbs but I'm not using it this time so I'll see if it makes a real difference I donno... I know that hortilux makes a difference, and an additional 80w would probably be real good for the girls but the 4 ft tubes are too big for my setup... if I can get my hands on some cheap 2 footers I might throw em in for the last month or so.

Can someon expand a bit on the benificial wave lengths that our girls desire? As I understand it there are harmful wave lengths that do more damage than good to our girls. Is there a bulb(s) that have the proper UV that we are after?

I've been searching for info on UVB since I still have a day or two before my 400w lights arrive. (I just found out about UVB this morning) I ran into a guy that warned against using Reptile Aquarium lights because of the ammount of UVA radiation which according to him can harm your plants. Is there any truth to this and if so, is CFL the only other alternative?

Also, I heard that MH gives off UVB radiation. If it's true, does anyone know their output? To me, mixing an MH or two in with your flower lights seems like a better choice if you can get the same UVB exposure.

Also I read about something else you can do to increase resin production. I got it from the book Marijuana Home Growers Guide. It reads like a text book, is very thorough, and I've yet to find a mistake in the book. The book claims that if you pinch the tip off of every leaf as soon as the new leaf appears starting with with the very first leaf, the leaf damage will cause the plant to produce enough resin to carmalize the entire plant in resin. The plant will not get as big of course because you are removing leaf material, but only about 1/32 of an inch per leaf so the loss of yeild shouldn't be too bad.

I'm going to have to start flowering my first set of plants after only a month due to a money flow problem, but I was planning on experimenting with this on my second grow. If anyone else wants to experiment first, please do. I can't wait to see if it works.

If I'm going to keep a journal on any of UVB info am I going to need a special camera or is there a microsope out there that incorporates a camera?

Forgot to ask another question, I read somewhere (I think in that sudy) that when you use UVB the trics can come out clear instead of being colored. Supposedly it's because the UVB somehow allows for a more pure something or other. My question is if the trics are clear, how do you know when the plants ready to harvest?

I'm excited, ReptileUV.com is selling UV Metal Halides. I'm thinking this may be the cadillac of UV lights, but I can't read the diagrams.

Can anyone tell me if these have a better UVB output than the reptile or CFL lights?

UVA & UVC also, can you tell the outputs of these two from the UV Diagram?
The problem with those lights are that they are a "spot" type light, the effective area is only about 6" wide.

For those of you with the space and are really interested in doing UVB right then this is the best way to go. I have spent alot of time looking around the internet reading and looking for sources of effective lights and this is by far the best I have found. It is a web site that sells high power UVB tanning lamps that are so powerfull they cannot be used in some states(for tanning). But they also sell ballasts and have tech support to build your own lamp holders because they are marketing them for UV curing applications. Just look around their website all the information that is needed is there. Something that I should mention, if anyone is going to use a setup like this, it should be for supplemental lighting and only needs to be used for an hour or two during the middle of your flowering light cycle. From the research I have done on the internet, these are the only way to get effective amounts of UVB to more than just a couple plants.

Thanks for the info, boy am I disspointed. When I saw it was a metal halide I assumed it was interchangeable with a MH grow light (same shape & ballast type). Spotlights would be a pain to work with.

I wouldn't use those tanning bulbs though. I'm still new, but as I understand it too much UVA will fry your plant. Those bulbs are much higher in UVA than standard aquarium lamps, I just called them. The 8.5% UVB rating has a 91.5% UVA rating. The lady said to find the UVA rating for their bulbs you subtract the UVB rating from 100%. I think the aquarium bulbs have a UVA rating of around 20% or 30% which is still considered high.

UVC is a different story, no one knows much about UVC because it only reaches our upper atmosphere, and no one seems to list the UVC output of their bulbs. I read a study though that proved that cannibus from higher altitudes are generally higher in potency so I really wanted to experiment with UVC. The potency can come from a higher exposure to USB, we may never know. lol

I'd like to have something I can hook up to my light mover and cover the whole garden with a small wattage lamp.

A light mover? That's brilliant, why didn't I think of that? Not only would you get better coverage, you're also helping to insure your plants don't get burnt by UVA at the same time.

I can't afford one till my next grow, but you just helped me solve 2 problems with one solution, thanks. I wish I knew how to rep+.

I still want a bulb with stronger UVB, weaker UVA, and some kind of listing of their UVC output of course, but you helped a lot. Thanks

Yeah, I tried to watch that video the other night and it was gone already.

I'm going to play god a little with the UV and experiment. I'll be starting with aquarium lights on my first grow which are easy to raise & lower. I'll start hi right from the clone stage to give them a good base tan. By the time they flower I'll have them as close as they can be without causing adverse effects on the plant. I'm also interested to see how big the trics can get before flower, but I'm more interested in increasing potency.

During this grow I'm going to try to build a track for a light mover that would circle my plants that I can use on my second grow. I'm going to try to make the track so it can be raised or lowered easily and I'll decide which is the best bulb to use then. The first grow should give me more information to use on the second grow. Hopefully I'll have it perfected by the 4th or 5th grow.

I for one will be using a Sunpulse 1000w 10k MH bulb in the last 2 weeks of my grow. Everything i've read and heard is great! I currently use their 3k for flowering, and it works great: more usable light, closer nodes. I for the longest time considered using CFLS, but their intensity is nothing compared to a MH UV bulb :P

I'd encourage everyone interested in uv to check them out, they're designed for digital ballasts too: 2 year warranty up to 600w and the 1000w had 1 year warranty.
