$1,000 for 1 Seed?.

Hi All!

This question is for seasoned medical growers, or simply those that spend a lot of time and $$ hunting phenotypes as I have. The question arose in my mind after spending 4 months growing what I thought was Malawi gold that turned out to be industrial hemp. Seeds of which came from a very reputable site I will not mention b/c the odds of it ever occurring to anyone again are about zero.

But even had the above not occurred, I have grown strains that were just OK...nothing special so moved on. Basically, it took 2 years of hunting to find the "Holy Grail"...one indica pheno and 1 one sativa to create mother plants and indefinite cuttings.

So, while paying a grand for "that seed" may seem outrageous...my electric bill says differently.

What would you pay for that one bean?.

Peace

I treated myself to a $29 Soma Somango fem seed as part of my Xmas. That's by far the highest price bean purchased, and can't see that happening often. Not because budget is an issue, just principal.

Even so, the Somango just passed 5 weeks 12 / 12 and is absolutely gorgeous. I'll probably revive an old thread to post pics as it gets closer to finish.

Not a chance...I've spent about 600 on beans in my life and have gotten maybe 2 to 3 plants that were truly something special, I wouldn't pay an extra four hundred to skip that process because I've come out with alot of good herb and it's all about the ride for me..plus nobody can guarantee you a star that's why clones have a market..

Yea fuck that noise. No bean is worth a grand. Most I'd pay is from breeders (which are on the list but I'm on a Bodhi bender right now) are Mr. Nice, Soma, Serious, and Sensi. I contemplated getting Green thumb but decided with my luck I'd drop it as a seedling and break a stem, besides there are easily just as good if not better than his gear.

Out of principal I would not pay a breeder more than $100, besides...any breeder charging that much would be crucified before ever making a sale. But you can understand the value I would hope, I'd rather pay up-front for top genetics as opposed to paying more in the long run.

Wait a minute, aren't you the herijuana guy?. I found a second pheno on that strain a year and a half ago, yields higher and has more of a fruity flavor as opposed to coffee. If so, that's a prime example...Dynasty CCK blows away heri. Had I known this 2 years ago, would have saved having run 2 packs of heri before switching gear.

lol I had to laugh as Amos now has a nickname as the anti heri guy.

Keep us posted on the somango... I want to see pics too, $30 is crazy ha but if it's the shit is not bad I guess. The pic on attitude looks like the buds foxtail if I remember right. Im not into that so I'm curious how it turns out.

Maybe for a proven clone, but not a seed. I know what you're saying though. That $1,000 for a guaranteed winner is a very small price to pay all things considered.

I have a pack of CCK that I've been sitting on for a while. I'll have to get those going....

Fuck that. I wouldn't pay that for a clone. I'd rather invest in beans than spend that kind of money. Besides all clone onlys started as a lonely bean.

That plant better produce bud, cocaine and acid if its that expensive! If it doesn't then I'd better be getting 20 clones at $50 each.
You're missing it, someone has to spend time from seed selecting that mother plant pheno you buy at 50 bucks a pop. Very few genetics have only 1 phenotype, most have 3. So when you decide to grow a strain, you have to clone and label everything...then test the end product etc. to determine your keeper.

And we haven't even factored males into this equation yet, many of the best strains on the planet are not available as feminized.

Eventually I get tired of smoking the same strain over and over. So I would never pay that much highest I would go is probably $30 for a single seed.

Hypothetical:

I come to you and say I've got an extremely high cbd plant that will allow you to kick pills completely to the curb for the rest of your life. $1,000.00. I'll even let you sample the bud first.

You wouldn't jump on that?

Nope, that simply profiting off of a situation. No better than what pharma does with life saving medications (although this isn't it). I'd probably go a couple hundred for a verified clone but a grand is simply profiteering.

I'd totally pay $200 or so for a pre 98 bubba clone

I likely wouldn't pay that much either, but I don't completely rule it out.

And I agree with you on the profiteering thing. Especially with regards to the high CBD strains. Nobody is smoking those to get high. That's medicine, and as such should be shared freely imo.

Exactly if I had the chance to buy a good cbd clone, you can bet your bottom dollar I'd be freely disseminating it, which would destroy the greedy ass holes profiting motive charging that grand.

i've kept quiet as i wanted to see what others had to say first... but imo, $1k for a clone or a seed of something you know is stable and you're more then likely going to get what you're looking for isn't very much money imvho..
i have heard of clones going for thousands of dollars, and seeds of polyhybrids going for like a thousand dollar per seed... i'm thinking that alien gear that dropped not too long ago went for mad amounts of money, and that's probably no where even near being stable..

This reminds me of Logic's (THCFarmer) auction a year or two ago of an Alien strain that people were climbing over each other to get. I think it was around 5 packs and they were WAYYYYYYY up there price wise, I think in the thousands for a pack of 10 or 15. It was CRAZY and I'm happy to report that I've read numerous disappointing grows on the strain.

I'll remind everyone you're not really buying seeds, you're buying genetics and once you own the strain, you can clone i forever......... but $1000 for a single that may not sprout is risky. A clone, maybe....but a seed- NOPE!
