That makes sense, thank you for sharing that. I knew it was going to require some some calculus and/or open office to convert. The good thing about calculus is that there is always someone else willing to do it X-D Is anyone in the process of doing the maths for the new Vero chips? If we can...

The curve on the 6500K tells the story of why it has lower Lumens than some of lower K. It must be crazy efficient to be competitive with so much of it in the 440nm blue and so little everywhere else. Veg lamp supreme IMO. A long time ago I put two clones in two linked bubble buckets. One clone...

Yes, Vf is the forward voltage. You need to know that and the current. Maybe if you tear down the device until you find the drivers we can help you avoid using a multi-meter.

Their press release said the gen 7 would be shipping in June! :hump: My guess is the 6500K is the one doing the max lumens. I'll probably be getting those first and cutting the veg power in half, again. LED FTMFW! Bridgelux may not be the most efficient, but it's worth it to me to have the...

I run 29s at 1450mA (a long time ago supra spec'd those drivers for 2 36V CXA 3590 chips) and I would not drive the current generation (6th) any harder than that. As the efficiency goes down and the power goes up the chip and heat sink will put out serious heat. It works for me, but I also wish...

Thanks JavaCo. Generally speaking they keep the chips physically identical and upgrade the diodes. However, if you read another press release they say they are working with another company to put a push connect onto the chip in holder. This will help those who are not savvy with the solder, and...

According to bridgelux they have much better efficiency and they are available in new voltage and current arrangements. http://www.bridgelux.com/products/vero-series 29B, 29C, and 29D.

Definitely use screws. You can use a chip as a template, or print the cad file of the chip in the PDF. Sharpie to make a dot and an auto punch right in the center. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automatic_center_punch The drill bit will do the rest. I machine screws from home depot that come...

DiY LED Grow Lights with CREE CXA3070 COBs and CPU Coolers

The 3070's max power is 117W, 3590 is 150W. 60W/117W = .513 or 51.3% 51.3% of 150W is .513 * 150W = 76.9W If you could find an 80W driver the 3590 would probably be happy. You could probably push it to a full 90W or 100W. 4-6 of those at 100W a piece would be a really nice setup. Not sure...

DiY LED Grow Lights with CREE CXA3070 COBs and CPU Coolers

Not seen any with the COB LEDs. The 3W and 5W diode arrays seemed to function well. The aliexpress heat sink/fans came today. It is worth the extra $ for the name brand ones. The machine work on these is not good. I will be trying them with 60W diodes, but not with anything more. Next place...

DiY LED Grow Lights with CREE CXA3070 COBs and CPU Coolers

Share what you found with us :-P High quality high power monochrome LEDs could be an excelent addition to a garden. For this friend of a friend's garden the goal is to get huge vegitative plants indoors so that they can be planted outdoors a week or so after the equinox. As such the focus is on...

DiY LED Grow Lights with CREE CXA3070 COBs and CPU Coolers

Lm/W is an OK way to compare, but not all lumens are created equally in spectrums. Look up the specteal output of a MH lamp and compare it to a 5000K LED and the PAR spectrum. It is hoped that by closely matching the spectrums that plants use to create energy each lumen will be more effective...

DiY LED Grow Lights with CREE CXA3070 COBs and CPU Coolers

You're doing great :-) It is amazing how simply these can be to set up, especially once the recipe has been figured out by others. Gaius, Supra, and everyone experimenting have my thanks as well. You can get it close to the plant and see if they like it. This is the first indoor garden a FoaF...

DiY LED Grow Lights with CREE CXA3070 COBs and CPU Coolers

Hi everyone. I just registered (the captcha for this forum is next to impossible) and this is my first post. This thread is inspirational! A friend of a friend has a few Ebay LEDs in a long term testing situation and some AliExpress units on the way. He's tried a few lower power options along...
