Would you consider buying a VERO after reading through some of the posts?

Something is moving in Bridgelux, today, finally, the first page of VERO features updated with new data:
- Market-leading efficacy, 155 to 177 lm/W typical
- Lumen output: From 520 to 37,260 lumens
Their press release said the gen 7 would be shipping in June!

:hump:

My guess is the 6500K is the one doing the max lumens. I'll probably be getting those first and cutting the veg power in half, again. LED FTMFW!

Bridgelux may not be the most efficient, but it's worth it to me to have the chip layout. I actually have some CAD drawings for a Bridgelux style chip holder for Crees that prints nicely, but why bother when the Veros come that way.

Speaking of efficiency, does any manufacturer offer a COB that hasn't been phosphor coated so it is just blue? Blue is nice, but you only see cheap ebay COBs and the little stars.

Wicked cool! Never seen a rebuild quite like that.
I own an $800 Hydropinics Hut X-5 500 that sux terribly for flowering. Only flowered once w/ it & it barely gave me 1/3 of my enhanced white light. It has 30watt COBs on a star shaped chip surrounded by all in one Burple/bluish pink 5 watters. So, I really wanna remove the COBs & replace them w/ good white ones.
It is a brand new, expensive light that is still under warranty but I doubt they will honor it if anything shits the bed anyways (terrible company) & I now have no use for it besides veg. But on full illumination it has to much red to veg, w/ 660nm diodes in flower mode. I thought it would work good seeing how their entire spectrum is in one diode & COB, aside from the 660's. They are The only company I could find that mixed their whole spectrum in one diode instrad of RGB type panels.
Thinking it will be a great enhanced white light of i remove the Pink COBs & replace them w/ Veros or Crees.
Have you ever heard of anyone doing this w/ lights other then MARS?
Do you think I should try w/ inexpensive cobs to see if it's possible or just get what i want to begin with?
I was thinking Veros. Seems they are the best deal. Here's a pic of the array w/ the lens on. I took it apart but the whole thing is just sitting on the lens making it really hard to remove it & put it back together. View attachment 3715289See the 660's in the corners. The rest are high R+B w/ like 17% green in there too.
Was so disappointed w/ the results. HH told me to sell it on E-Bay. The lenses trap airborne dirt too. They told me to tidy up my grow room. Idiots. I keep my room pretty clean compared to many of my friends.
Ok, rambling over. Heavily medicated from my surgery so excuse my being out of context. Thanks!
I am now going to read this thread to learn more about Veros.
Just find out the fV of those cobs, match it with whatever Cres or Vero has the same, and just switch then out! Could end up being a decent light then!

FV? Forwarding Voltage?
Really wanna do this.
You get a Eco light or what? They should've have you one! If they don't, they suck. Lol!

Yes, Vf is the forward voltage. You need to know that and the current. Maybe if you tear down the device until you find the drivers we can help you avoid using a multi-meter.

I don't know much about that but when it comes time I'll deffinetly try to learn how & will seek help. Brand new light so really can't duck it up. Allot of people must be doing this with last generation LEDs I'd imagine. Saw the video awhile ago & thought how cool is that. Upgrading. Cobs are coming in quite handy.

Nah I havent heard anything from them. And yes forward voltage. If you can just match them up you can just replace cob for cob on the drivers already wired and just solder the new ones right on the same old wires. Done.

Based on the grows I have been running for the last year or so, the Vero 29s work great. The Vero 29 3500-4000k 80 CRI seem to be the best overall choice for growing. They have a better relative PAR functions, they have enough blue that they can be used for both veg and flowering. The extra output from the 80 CRI and 3500k or 4000k outweighs any advantage the 2700-3000k lights might have because of there increased red/blue ratio. That is to say, it is wrong to think that you should use 2700k LED for flowering because people use 2700k HPS for flowering.

I have only ever used Vero 29 LEDs, I grow legally/medically, I am a newbie, only 1 year growing, have been averaging 20% cannabiniods.

Some preliminary specs for the Vero 29 Gen 7 are already out on there website, it looks like there should be about at 13% increase in efficiency. Vero 29 4000k from 137lm/w to 155lm/watt. My understanding is that the full secs should be coming out by the end of this month, with the COBs being available 6-8 weeks after full specs.

I spoke with someone from Bridgelux less than a week ago, release is on track for end of this month, so hopefully there will be datasheets to play with in just a couple days.
The price is what I'm most curious about. Because if I remember right, you said that the 7th gen is equal to 3590 lm/w right? I might switch over to the dark side if they're significantly cheaper.

Because that's what marketing is all about jorge. Save your comments for something that matters.
Does Bridgelux do a lot of marketing? I'm being serious. Nobody cares about this nerdy stuff except flashlight, reef, and weed geeks. I guess Cree is as well known as any LED maker, I'll give you that.

Either way, the important bit was the unlikeliness. If we are lucky they will beat Citizen at lower or higher currents, probably not both, and hopefully compete on price. Availability will be good, anyway. Cree has too much dark magic at low currents. Plus they bin.

I'm waiting to see the data sheets until I make any more purchases, I can tell you that.

The Vero 29 at nominal will be slightly under CD performance... at nominal, which nobody runs them at anyway, so it's not quite as nice as the figures might suggest.

But if the price on the 120w Vero 29 is nice, it will be interesting to see what kind of performance they provide at 50 and 75 watts. Maybe 25 watts, but CXB 3590 prices prevented most from considering running them at 25 watts. I suspect it will be similar with the new Veros.

Tear it open and get a look at the drivers. you can likely salvage those.Oh and don't forget the heatsinks! I was disappointed with the mars as well. they advertise as being 5w leds but they are 3w.we live we learn yo.

@AquariusPanta hows everything going w/ your lights & the mkt.?
I really liked the V-series you first came out w/. Are you coming out w/ more lights soon?
I totally disagreed w/ how some were treating you around the forum & expressed that. I give you props!
Hey Hybridway! As you know, the Skinny Mo' recently debuted, so I'd say things are going well with product development. While Heaven Bright hasn't blown up and I haven't become a millionaire, I've had the pleasure of acquiring some of the best customers around over the past year. Between their successes and the joys that I get from designing and building these fixtures, I'm happy where things stand and wouldn't have it any other way.

I haven't decided on what my next move will be, although I currently have a few options in front of me. What would you like to see Heaven Bright come out with next?

Thanks for the props, man. I didn't like how some were treating me either but some of that was brought on by me.

it looks like according to datasheets compared to the previous generations that 4000k 80CRi has less power in red spectrum with the top somewhere approximately 585nm compared to previous version of approximately 595nm.. but again has a greater performance in blue.. the same applies to 3000k 80CRi which now has more blue.. I think that compared to previous generation will now have a balanced spectrum rather 3500k than 4000k for all grow

someone more skilled and able to perform better and certainly more technical comparison .. this is just my estimate impetuous .. I could not wait to release the datasheets for the new gen
