Hey zz..... back up for one second..... It sounds like you are doing most everything right to diagnose your problem except one thing i can add... I used to use cubes as my medium and had the exact same prob. you still need a fan for proper air flow but the cubes will stay wet for far longer...

OK guys put your thinking caps on .... is it better to cool a small space for tanks with air conditioning or use a chiller.... i posted a thread with the same ? not sure witch is more better.... just trying to be as effecient as possible... cost is not the only issue ... wear and tear on equip...
