You can't compete with China. That is where many of the ballasts are being manufactured. Hoods, maybe... ballasts, no... you can't buy the parts for less than they will ship a complete unit with warranty.

If you are using an inert medium like coco or peat moss or hydroponics mediums, then they need nutes at about 50% of full strength. However, if you are using soil, then the soil already has nutes in it and you can/will burn your plants from too much food. I hope this helps.
