If you don't mind doing a little roof work, you could vent it through to a bathroom vent. Maybe through a soffit or directly out the roof if your soffit is vented.

As long as the hollow center is not broken it will heal with some help. You could try wrapping it with floral tape until it heals.

I was referring to the ability of two 5" fans to be equal to one 10" fan. You already answered your own question about the carbon filter.

This is all going to depend on how many CFM each fan displaces, how long your ducting is, how many turns you have in the ducting and how many CFM your filter can handle.
