Sure. I did a CFL grow. I recently switched over to a 400w hps on my newest grow. Lets say, after only ONE(1) day of having it on, I'll never go back to CFL. HPS get hot. You need plenty of head room, basically. CFL is good for, aptly named, a compact grow.
