With CFLs I've never seen foil cause burn spots, or any other issues mentioned before. With HID lights you might run into trouble though.

I've never seen them for under $9. Even for $5 that is still not a great deal. You can get a 4 pack of 25 watt Wal-Mart brand CFLs for $7. So that's either $5 for 42 watts or $7 for 100 watts. That's a no-brainer right there. And that 105 watt CFL monster is probably around $30 or $40. While...

If you pick up 2 pack of 26 watt bulbs and a Y connector, it will be the same price as a 42 watt bulb. Same price gets you either 3400 lumens or 2700 lumens. It's your choice but if you have the space I say go for the 2 pack.

How do you think that bulb combination is going to work? 3000k, 4100k, 5000k? There are none of the tried and true 6500k or 2700k bulbs in that one.

If this is just a casual personal grow, then there is no problem using aluminum foil with CFL's. It may not be the best reflector, but if you already have some in your kitchen then it will cost you nothing extra. By the looks of your pix I'd say the foil is doing nothing bad for you.
