Quitting Marijuana & Withdrawl Symptoms?

NOTE: Mods, sorry if this is in the wrong area. I saw the word science and figured marijuana withdrawal symptoms are science and filed accordingly.

I'm sure you read the subject and HAD to click. I would too, and I'd be ready to lay the smack down because who in their right mind would want to quit marijuana!? Before now I couldn't tell ya but after over 10 years of non-stop smoking I've come to the point where I just want to stop, maybe not forever, but at least for a good 6 months... maybe more.

I'm 28 now and started smoking at around 14 years old. I didn't start smoking every single day until I was about 18 years old. I'm to the point now where I smoke a joint probably within 20 minutes of waking up. If I don't smoke that joint my day is not going to go well. I'm going to be in "freak-out-mode" all day until I get my fix. I will get "crazy" angry out of no where, I will randomly start beading sweat on my forehead, I'll be irritable, hungry, bored, antsy, anxious, sad, and depressed. These feelings aren't long lasting but they just seem to come out of no where until I smoke some marijuana. Like I said I smoke every day and all day. I recently got to the point where I was just taking THC gelcaps all day long which turned into a big wake up call. Let me put this in perspective, just one of these THC pills would keep my girlfriend in bed for 24 hours and the day after would be completely ruined- keep in mind she smokes every day as well. I would take 2 gelcaps in the mornining, 2 more at around 10am, 2 more at 12pm, 2 more at 2pm, 2 more right before the ride home from work, and then 2-4 as soon as I got home. Each gelcap had .15 45 micron hash from some super buds so you have an idea of the potency of these gelcaps. Fact of the matter is I am completely addicted to weed right now.

I used to tell people weed is great because its not addictive, you can't die from it, and I can actually function on it. Well, sure, you can function on it and you think you're doing as good as you would if you weren't on it but the truth is you're not doing as good as you would if you were sober. I always thought marijuana wasn't addictive because it didn't make you get sick when you stopped, and you didn't rob stores to get more when you ran out, you don't do any of the things typically associated with illegal drugs. IF I run out of weed I just suffer, I don't go rob someone (well I guess some people do, see LOS ANGELES).

In any event I'm hurting. I'm trying to weene myself off but am having a really hard time with it. For instance this morning I smoked only 1/2 of a really fat joint instead of the whole thing and my whole day was completely fucked. I was a big asshole to everyone and flipped out a bunch of times. I know its a result of not having smoked enough weed this morning.

I know it sounds crazy but I feel like I need some help here.

I've quit cigarettes before- those were hard but I feel like marijuana is harder! Isn't that crazy?

So has anyone else out there quit? If so what were your symptoms? How long did they take to subside? Did you use anything to take the edge off?

Maybe you're an asshole and the trees just help you to not be. Did you ever stop and consider maybe these aren't "withdrawls" maybe the marijuana was helping you with these issues you didn't know you had until you stopped taking the medicine.

Thats a crappy story bro, i feel bad for ya. Im well aware that marijuana is a drug and all drugs need to be respected and used in moderation. Sounds like your not moderating your use very well. Ive been smoking since 16 and havent ever felt withdrawl symptoms. I usually only smoke once a day though. Ive quit numerous times for weeks or months but i enjoy the mental awareness it gives me. It also boosts my energy levels. Id recommend that you try to reduce the amount your consuming and practice some restraint lol. When you get done with your break from pot try to just use minamal amounts so you dont develop a tollerance to it. Two little puffs gets me to where i want to be and its pretty easy on the pocket book and your head. Nobody likes a zombie lol respect the drug and youll be a happier guy. Just like alcohol and tylenol or even cake, if you consume too much it will produce negative effects on your body. :peace:

dude, but sorry, you're not addicted to weed.. go try a hard drug that has actual withdrawal symptoms and than come back and talk to me about being addicted to a drug...
you're more likely to be addicted to soda or caffeine than you are to be addicted to weed, true story..

Anger Management and Therapy works wonders , something else is bringing this abnormal behavior about and it needs to be addressed ..

Blaming weed will not work and it will all become worse in time if you don't get to the root of the issue at hand .. As well try enjoying life more for what its worth . Spread kindness and it will come back 3 fold .. Bad Karma is never fun !

Moderation is the key.

You've gotten into a rhythm where you've inunidated the body with cannabinoids and when they diminish you're left feeling the effects. My uncle is the same with his booze, he will power drink to get the buzz he wants and expect to keep that level going throughout the day, a hard thing to do. Your body is a huge chemical reactor and when things become unstable regardless of the means, the system is effected and usually in a negative manner.
The effects from cannabis use are well known and are to be expected, it is after all said and done a drug

Withdrawals are a physical thing if you're an asshole when you don't smoke it because you're an asshole. If you're saying that you're ONLY an asshole when you don't smoke then you probably shouldn't stop smoking! I can say with 100% certainty I am a huge bitch. Extreme cunt. But because I smoke every couple of hours I'm tolerable. Yes when I stop smoking I go all ultra bitch but only because the trees are the only thing keeping me from being that way all the time! As far as I can tell you need to use the trees as a medicine to get your mind right.

I appreciate the comment but weed is my last vice. I've tried many different drugs, quit them all, in fact I recently quit consuming caffeine. My symptoms are directly related to weed. Now granted the symptoms are different, very different- opiates, cocaine, etc. Regardless, the feelings I am experiencing are a result of removing marijuana from my life. I wish I was like others and didn't experience these symptoms but I do.

It's because the pot is helping you! If you smoke and you're not a dick then its working! If you don't smoke and you're a dick it's because you stopped taking your meds.

I smoke so much weed that I am able to throw away an ounce a week in roaches easily . I don't just smoke weed I consume it in many forms such as the OP .. I tend to consume a few grams of oil minimal every week , more so when I decide to eat it and skip dabs .. I as well tend to consume about a pound of black out butter every week due to medibles being another weakness of mine . And I take Simpson oil as well ..

I consume mass amounts of weed verses the average rec user due to having PolyNeuropathy and a severe case of Degenerative Disc Disease , in short THC and CBD helps my nervous system from misfiring and as well it helps relieve swelling and pain .. So with that said I intake alot of weed for medical reasons and I smoke Sativas to counteract all the Indica and to get high as well ..

After all of the years of this steady dosage I am fully able to stop if I need with ease .. Its all mental and there is no physical withdraws from cannabis , for Christ sake we produce our own cannabinoids .. Think about that one and put it in your pipe..

Once an asshole always an asshole sad to say .. Good luck with this profession ..

No need to be rude. Yes we do produce our on cannabinoids but its the same with any drug. When you smoke a cigarette, the nictotine releases dopamine (which your brain produces on its own its normal) and you become addicted to the release of dopamine- this is because more dopamine responders grow in the brain due to the big load of dopamine its receiving. I would think something similar happens with marijuana.

I'm happy for you that you can consume that much marijuana and abruptly stop and not experience any withdrawl symptoms at all- thats fantastic and you're a lucky person. I'm not so lucky, it stinks.

Also, people seem to have associated me with being an asshole all of the time- not sure why? It only happens when I don't smoke marijuana for a period of time. Kind of like the same way a person who is addicted to cigarettes doesnt have one for a few hours and they turn into an asshole?

FYI I'm not an asshole ;)

Thank you for adding to the discussion.
