Kids and Cars, Yesterday Vs. Today

Can someone please explain to me why it's "cool" these days to take a Honda Civic(w/a 4 cylinder engine no less)and modify the exhaust to sound like an insect?. No offense, but that's what the new breed of street racers sound like...a swarm of flies:-P. And why would anyone spend that kind of cash to upgrade these vehicles, when they could modify a Ford Interceptor or a Mustang?. Better yet, get a real vehicle...

Actually, I really want to trade-in my new Chevy for an old one.

Peace.

i happened to be one of those "kids" shall we say. first let me state that i'm a pretty big asshole at times and i didn't need a honda to become a bigger one. i did go with a nice 4" exhaust sytem and it sounded loud as fuck, loved the sound. there's nothing like some muscle with a nice exhaust tho, that's an instant orgasm. i personally love hondas because i think it's amazing that honda can make such small engines with such high power outputs (usually done by variable valve timing or VTEC and a high rev range). they have made the strongest 4 cylinder imo, making 240 hp from a 2.0L displacement and this is Naturally aspirated . i'm talking about the k20 if you're curious and when these engines are turbocharged i have seen them make 500WHP easily with stock internals.

in conclusion; i'm all about making something from the least amount possible. a 500whp 4 cylinder, i'll take that all day since i think the cars look nice as well. having said all that i have not met another honda today that has not pissed me off to the point that i want to run them off the road so i completley see the point that you and many others have made.

People don't make their civics loud to be cool, they do it to piss off entire city blocks of people that are sleeping. Meh, over privileged douche nozzles gotta flaunt that trust-fund somehow.

let me add that while honda engines are powerful, the ones you are talking about probably push no more then 100bhp because they are from those old civics which in reality are designed for fuel economy and not racing.

Nah, they don't really bother me on the road b/c most drive like I do...fast. May I ask what the total cost of your upgrades were?. Civics hold their value better than most of the competition, with or without upgrades. It's a matter of personal choice I suppose, mine leans towards a motor with bass that doesn't feel like driving a go-cart.

It was my very first car when I got my license, err...6 months later they suspended my license due to speeding tics...lol

Lol when I see old cars with over sized rims I think one of two things; the rims are stolen, or (and most commonly) it belongs to an African American.

Ps wtf r u trying to get your car so high for, slap some lowering springs and 13s on that bitch it'll look great on a caddy

Perosnally I don't have the engine I was talking about. The one I built is 130hp stock motor and with a turbo charger and upgraded pistons and rods I can push 400whp and about 350 torque easily.

On a budget build I have seen these go as low as 5 grand including the price of the car. If you want to do this properly and buy all brand new genuine parts, you are looking at around 10 grand including some nice rims and perhaps a paint job. I like to do everything myself however so I didt take into account any labouring costs. I have a jack stand and just about any sized socket you can imagine. I love all cars and see the best in all of them.....even toyotas.

Lol I didn't add anything to the car, just bought it like that a month ago. Was thinking about selling the rims for some spare cash and pickin up some stock rims but that's undecided. Most people probably have the same thoughts you do when seeing it, they're prob shocked when they see a white boy with hippie long hair as I have.

my first car sun was a 67 camaro, 327 4 speed that i loved to death.. i rue the day i sold her.. :(

but as to why kids today prefer honda's and other rice burners over old school muscle, the answer is obvious to me.. price.. i for one can hardly afford an old muscle car.. ffs, to replace my old car would run me more like $20k and you can pick up a rice burner and do some serious mods to it for well under 20k ime..

nothing still beats the sound of a v8, but i still miss the 20,000 plus redline on the big v12 formula engines.. if that sound doesn't go straight to ones soul, idk what to say to you.. :)

don't forget to turn the sound all the way up either.. :D

I once owned a Tundra V-8, it would downshift at 85 to pass. In that truck I beat an F-150 with no payload going uphill...and I was pulling a trailer with about 500 lbs.

I love that feeling of being that much higher then all the other cars. Truck drivers are the best I've seen them too lazy to get out of their car so they just run through the shopping carts to move them out of the way. My friend had a ram and she filled it up with 100 dollars worth of gas every week. I filled my civic up once every three weeks for fifty bucks lol. there's a price to pay for all that torque and it doesn't come cheap.

Touching on what racer said, they are dirt cheap to maintain not to mention to buy. Tires are cheap, oil filters, they only take 3.5 l of oil whereas my big jimmy (gmc Acadia) takes about 6. I can go to my local junkyard and find any part for very cheap as well.
