Found some more bud rot on BZ - whipped them branches out immediately this time, instead of just trying to control it.
Three branches with a wet weight of 57g - My estimations make a dry weight of around 15-20g
Crystals are now working harder lol creamy cloudy's all over the place :)
And considering my last sample turned out actually pretty good with no cloudy's and few ambers - still smoking it and getting buzz - these few branches will be lots better :) and the rest even better still.
There are still loads of branches left so I'm hoping that leaving the rest of BZ another few days should finish her off nicely.
She was due Aug 1st. Another week will be just what she needs.

Cheese and FP are phattening out good too, looking forward to chopping them in a week or two :)

Also Caramelo is flourishing and almost ready for up-potting into my makeshift tupperwares lol I'm also considering throwing a mesh over it to try and control the stretch a bit better and even out the tops.

Any ideas for blackening out the sides of my tupperware pots? Need to figure something out before I pop Caramelo into one. After trial it appears that light does indeed kill off the roots so blacked out is better. Just need some ideas...

Freshly cut branches stinking out my shed, and neighbourhood!

Inside now, stinking out my house lol trimmed up a little. You can just about see bud rot hole where I scraped it out. Almost missed this one!
Cola's look fat and are tight and dense and hard.
I've found that drying these for three days is best for smoke factor. Lets see how long I can leave it LoL

The Lab is looking lurvely and ready :) BZ on the left, after I chopped these branches off. Fruit Punch on the right... wow! :) She really is a gem and I can't wait to kiss her
IMG-20120804-00188.jpg

Caramelo. I still seem to have this deficiency thing going on. haven't tried micro nutes yet as I put it off whilst trying another go at thrip removal with soapy stuff PBI or whatever it's called. My mate has some magnesium for me to pick up so I wanna give that a go soon.
(nothing in the aero, just can't be arsed to take it out and clean it)

I'll try and get more bud porn up for y'all throughout my harvests :)

yum yum cumbers... :-)
well done again dude..... if it keeps you smoking its been worthwhile..... if you have a surplus, well thats happy days :-)

i find it really hard to work out what deficiency is which... and there is a thing called lockout where a plant gets ill due to lacking in one trace element or another and it starts sending false symptoms because it can't process its nutes... so it looks like it its laking in p/k when its not it just can't use whats in the soil/whatever cos its ill

on the whole i think its just a case of regrowing the strain until you perfect soil and nute requierments..... have you thought about or tryed a compost tea? i want to try it but i dont have a clue yet .... according to "cannabis grow bible" its a simple case of adding a few scoops of your regular compost and water to a container with an aquirum airstone bubbling through it.... just strain and use
as i say i don't know much about it but it sounds simple enough.... i'm told that mollases helps create a culture ... i'm gonna try to learn more

Making teas are awesome troutie...it a lot easier to make them than people think. Start out with just a couple things (compost, molasses, chlorine free water), wait a couple days (adding molasses each day) until you see foam on top of the water (you then know it's full of beneficial microbes). Dilute with some water (half and half is a good place to start, can use more, can use less, have to experiment) and then you're good to go.

http://www.420magazine.com/forums/indoor-soil-cultivation/84200-compost-tea.html

When you get comfortable, you can start adding more things to your tea such as liquid karma, bone / blood meal, kelp meal, lime....anything organic pretty much.

Bat guano .... don't forget the bat guano!....

thanks LJ ... will be seriously looking into this as my latest build come to a close :-)

Make sure you keep me informed. I'm still indifferent about going hydro or not when I move. I did decide that I should at least wait for the new house before starting new projects.
But I like soil. I've spent a year learning how to grow in it, and it probably makes good sense to learn how to make it better...

btw - I need to buy some soil in the next week or so. I've been getting cheapo bargain stuff and mixing some perlite in.

Any suggestions as to what soil to buy?
I won't spend more than a fiver per bag - mostly out of principal lol

Hydro is so interesting and I've thought about it many times....but boy does it suck when you just over fert a lil too much or catch some bacteria in your res and the plant takes a dive. Hell no! I care about the plants too much...would eat me up inside every time

It does make a lot of sense to stick with it since you've been growing in it for a year though. Am tempted to dip into coco...thought I saw you mention before that you were considering it?

Also, have you thought of reusing soil? Tried it and it worked amazingly. Just needs a few amendments to it, and good to go. By the 4th or 5th time around, it'll grow better than FF and without the worry of burn :). And no more buying soil!

As for suggestion of what to buy...there's nothing wrong with bargain organic soil mixed with perlite :). What matters is what you mix into it! If you want to be organic, put some blood and bone meal in your soil, and some lime to counteract soil acidity during flowering. That's a basic mix that can carry you quite far. It's even better when you add worm castings, guano, or compost. If you find the mix that's right for you, you'll never have to fert, only water throughout the entire grow :hump:

that's interesting about the lime. I know it's a preventative measure for mag and cal deficiencies so I'd like to give that a go, seeing as I have those defs.
How much d'you think should be used in the mix? and is there a specific product to look for?

BZ update.

Found more bud rot... and lots of mould sites (the bits that turn into rot).

So, I cut her down. I was only giving her a few more days anyway so it's not that bad a thing. I think I caught it with good time because some of the mould sites go deep into the cola's and there could've been a lot more damage done had it been left another day or two.
I can't have lost more than a quarter ounce to rot.
I just worry that it still had a little browning left to do and won't be at its best, but it is what it is now - I'll come back at a later time with a smoke report :)

Trouble is, I was in such a rush to save it I didn't really snap any pics for you guys.
The shit is hanging in the shed, with samples of FP and Cheese :)
I didn't bother getting a wet weight - I usually do as it's a good guide for what to expect when it's dry, roughly - cos it's a lot of weed to carry in and out of the shed for weighing and what nots.
I guess I'll keep it in the shed for tonight and check out the smell tomorrow. If it's bad then I'll move it inside. But I think it may be okay. Moving my intake from the shed door to sit inside should suck out a lot of the smell by passing it thru my flower box. That's the idea anyway lol

Once it's inside I'll get a good pic or two ;)

Now really looking forward to my other drying samples ! (FP is due in a few days, cheese in a week. But they both look more than ready lol)

Around 2 tablespoons per gallon of soil, dolomite lime. Can use it in watering mix too, but never with fertilizer or it will have your soil all screwed up.

Coco coir is an excellent growing medium. I initially decided on going with coco because I didn't wanna deal with the hassle of dragging big ass bags of potting soil around. So I bought some coir bricks, added some water and watched them fluff up, threw a couple of handfuls of perlite in for a little extra drainage and ran a nice fat layer of worm castings between the bottom and top layers of coir. It has great water retention and no ph issues if you keep your nutes dialed in and your water aerated. I just recently started hitting the girls with a little hydrolized fish and seaweed with a tiny hit of fish emulsion for the added N and everything is nice and lush.. and smelly. lol

I'd highly recommend coir. :hump:

That all sounds absolutely awesome!
and also sounds like far more working out, than I have time for. If it were simple than I have a go at a side by side to see how it goes. Perhaps in the new house it could be an option, in which case I shall come a knockin' for Kronik :)

As for the lime, I'd like to find something I can just add every now and then, just to boost levels of micronutrients. I have a few boosters, but they're very strong and not organic so an alternative would be good. I have some magnesium sulphate - epsom salts - aint tried it yet though.

It may sound a bit heavy and time consuming but it really isn't. If it were, I wouldn't be doing it. I really wanted to go with something that would be simple and easy to maintain and I'm more than satisfied with the results I'm getting with coco. I'm totally not an expert on it by any means but I'd be more than willing to give you a few pointers when/if you ever decide to give it a go. :)

I'm still in mourning over your Strawberry Cheesecake loss! I remind my girls almost every time I check on them that they need to grow big and strong to honor their fallen sister. lol

Yes, I'm a loser who talks to her plants. Don't judge me!

LoL I'm still kinda mourning too! I was hoping big things for her...

My mate offered me some regs yesterday, freebies from herbies... no thanks lol Don't quite measure up to the cheesey niceness.

I seriously gotta make a new order - my grow bud just received his femmed white diesel and LSD strains. I know I can get cuts eventually but that's ages away...
I'm seriously considering the SC again though :) and a few other cheesey strains too

If you do give it another spin, do let us know! I'd really enjoy having someone to compare notes with. I'm still kinda baffled by it really. Two of my SCs have done spectacular, while the third has been nothing but a little hussy. She germed slower, sprouted later, didn't take the transplant well and is just generally being a drama queen. I don't get it. She gets the exact same food, light and drink as the others but she just keeps being naughty. I'd understand it better if she were of a different strain but.. wtf. lol

I wanna run a LSD eventually. I really really wanna run a Skywalker but it may be a bit too leggy for the tent size I have. It would probably require some serious LST and/or topping to keep it manageable.

Someone that actively feeds their plants with their own energy, cannot be a loser... :P
I'll keep that in mind the next time I get embarrassed with myself for babbling to my plants for fifteen minutes straight.

Just remember to give as much energy as you take, if not more :)

And now I'm excited to go get some more SC :)

As for your 'bad seed' (lol), it could be phenotypical... unstable strains tend to show their different pheno's when growing out multiple seeds. The Heavyweight farm usually tends to be pretty stable though - I've grown out the Budziller and the Fruit Punch several times now and it's been consistent, both also from the Heavyweight farm.
So gawd knows! lol could be just a bad seed

LSD I'm not really too fussed about. Apparently it's so strong it causes hallucination... That's just too damn strong for my liking.
A money maker though for sure, but what I grow is what I smoke so it's gotta be compatible with me as well as pay the bill. Think I'll sample my mates first and see what I think

Aha. See, that's one of the reasons I dig this site so much. I pick up on new scraps of information almost daily. I didn't even stop to consider that her problems could be pheno related, noob that I am. Thank you for pointing that out. I just assumed she was being a bitch. (Which I've started calling her but in a sweet loving tone as to not offend her delicate sensibilities.) lol

I've heard conflicting reports on the LSD strain. Some say it's heavy and others say it doesn't live up to it's name. I dunno.. I'm guessing there are so many factors involved (tolerance, grow technique, experimentation with hallucinogens) that it's kinda hard to gauge without giving it a spin. I gotta admit, it intrigues me. If you do run it I would certainly be interested in your experiences with it.

I feel like I'm twisting your arm on the whole SC thing but I can't help it. :-P I search the site regularly for any threads on it and I usually dig up nothing but unfinished journals and people like me who are curious about it but can't seem to get a lot of real info on it. It doesn't seem to be one of the more popular strains, which is weird considering that it's THC level is supposed to be what.. 22% or so?

Have you ever given THC Bomb a spin? That's another strain I'm interested in.

lmao....'i just assumed she was being a bitch'. Same thing happened with me...four seeds of the same strain, and one just decided to be a runt for no apparent reason! I guess that's why people grow out multiple beans at once to choose a mother...some seeds don't live up to their full capability.

I have heard the same as you...conflicting info on LSD. I have one from Barney's farm so I'll be sure to let you guys know how it is. I find a hard time believing that there's weed good enough to make me hallucinate like LSD since I've done acid a few times in high school and never really had bad effects from it...even when I took more than the other people around me who were trippin'. The only thing that's ever made me really trip is shrooms! Now if they have a strain like that...;)

Do you know if strawberry cheesecake and strawberry cough are similar? Is strawberry cheescake a sativa?

i seem to always get a runt in every batch... its best not to beat yourself up about it.. as said above its not usually anything you've done wrong or could have done any better... its like a class full of students... for every three or four football team kids there's a scrawny pale faced kid who couldn't run without sucking on asthma pump like its going out of fashion. its all the same...

i too talk to my plants .. well i moan to the about the other half to be honest, they seem to like it though :-)

barneys farm pineapple express autos were very nice ... but not not quite the fruity kick in the mouth i was expecting, alot of the blurb is hyped i'm thinking, i guess they hope to nail a sale with guilded lillys, but it just puts me off trying other strains if i think they are talking BS

Can't really spk about hallucinatory substances as I've always actively avoided them. One time I had shrooms I got sent loopy haha but then I was also on coke and E that night haha loooooong time ago lol
Rasta teaching from my yout, one should never consume anything man made. I've kinda lived with that rule in terms of drugs (apart from in my yout lol)

I'm interested in genomes. Not hugely but it does interest me. The way different pairings of chromosomes can determine the colours of a hamsters fur... applies equally here with crossed strains of weed.
A stable strain can take years to make - stable meaning it only has one single phenotypical make up - which is where I think these new fangled farms are going wrong. They make a super strain without stabilising it properly, still leaving us with the pheno differential problems...
My mate planted ten Pineappple Chunk seeds, and I swear there were at least four different strains came through!! Obviously the same strain but you could easily make out the differences between the crosses in the different plants - short ones, tall ones, fat and skinny ones LoL I was kinda shocked that they'd be selling something with such a specific description and it turn out to be so far removed from it.
I think if they end up with super strength from each test, in their minds as the creators they must believe that being so unstable is a good thing. Personally, they can kiss my ass! I want my shit to do what it says on the tin!!

If you think about it though. All sales blurb, is blurby and supposed to make the product shine and sparkle. And once you've seen some of the descriptions on Herbies you kinda get it lol and NO I don't trust any of them. Even the pictures can sometimes be misleading.

Best bet. Buy what you know as well as something you don't know. Try it yourself rather than take someones word :)

Strawberry Cough, I can't remember exactly the crosses, but it is different yes.
