the odds aren't against us because there was a piece of paper referring to the combination . . . if we can figure out exactly what the letters mean we essentially have the combination . . .
Not really. What you have is a piece of paper with characters written on it. There is no indication that the safe combination has not been reset and the paper is worthless.

I am guessing it is some sort of dual code with the number - letter combinations written on another piece. However, it doesnt mean anything. People watch too many movies.

Okay, When I moved in my new house about 10 years ago there was a safe in the basement. It has a piece of paper on it that says combination but Its in a code and I cant ever crack it. I hear stuff inside it and my father finally told me I could fiddle with it and try and open it. I need your help though.

It is a Meilink Cast Iron safe, with a Sargent and Green-leaf lock. The Dial goes up to 100.

The Combo is:
L: DT to LC
R: LT to GO
L: OT to AE
R: GT to Stop HT

Who knows whats in there. Please some one help me.
what about reading it as:

Left: Double Turn to ''LC''
Right: Little turn to ""GO"
Left: One turn to "AE"
Right: "G" turn to "HT"

I dunno what the numbers could be, or If I am reading it right. "G" confuses me, "L" for little was a guess.... The other letters could either correspond to the alphabet, but that might not make sense since "O" is not in the first 9 digits, maybe perhaps it could correspond to phone numbers... I dunno! Just trying to brain storm

These locks work where you start at zero. turn left (counter-clockwise) until you hit your first number the 4th time. than go right (CW) until you hit your second number the 3rd time, than left again until you hit the 3rd number the 2nd time. than turn right until it stops. Or sometimes you go to zero instead of turning until it stops, you will have to try both ways. Go to the web site and look at the various directions: http://www.sargentandgreenleaf.com/OPinstr.php

Now to decrypt the letters to numbers: Notice how the left side shows DT,LT,OT,GT to stop HT? T stands for turns. This corresponds to the 4 turns, 3 turns, 2 turns, 1 turn requirement. So DT=4 turns, LT=3, OT=2 GT=1 and HT=0 . Now to the combo: Since H=0 and G=1 and D=4, there is a pattern of numbers increasing in value as the letters descend, so abcdefgh = 7,6,5,4,3,2,1,0. So looking at the letters(numbers) on the right you have LC which translates to 35, GO = 12, AE = 73 So try:35-12-73. Or try 24-01-62 (alternate in case he was off on the turns by 1 IE 3-2-1-0 turns)

If I am correct, everyone on this thread should give me a +rep because damn, that was good !! If I'm wrong....give it to me anyways cuz I'm a rep whore.

In for the results. Hopefully there is something valuable in there like coins, cash, gold/silver, jewelry, bonds ect.. It's like your own little treasure chest haha. But honestly chances are that it's nothing good or they wouldn't have left it.( assuming somebody didn't die and leave it)
