Originally, I changed the water weekly. Once I got the heavy duty H2O2, I started doing it every other week.

If you absolutely have to get it right on the first grow, go with soil.

There is a little bit of a learning curve to using DWC/bubbleponics, but if you really want to give it a shot, start a thread in the DWC/Bubbleponics forum about your intent and we can all help you there.

Here's a little on DWC in the GROWFAQ.

Best of luck and welcome to RIU bongsmilie

Really nice setup man! I presently grow with soil and I am in the process of setting up a grow cabinet with a DWC setup like this one in it... My container will be a bit bigger than 3 gallons...

So I have a few questions for you...

1) how do you control the water level in the tank? do you have an external res and if so how is it plumbed up to this?

2) how often do you have the air pum turning off and on? and how is this acomplished?

3) how big of net pot will I need if I plan on growin 3-4 foot plants? And how close can I drill the holes into the lid? basicly how many cab I fit?

Thanks in advance!

1) Water Level is controlled by simply topping off to the desired level. There is no external res. You could make and external res if you want to....that would be a recirculating DWC. There are many tutorials floating out there on the net to make one.

This is what I do. I simply have an extra tub on hand that is already made up with fresh water and nutes. I simply switch the lid to the new tub....its pretty simple.

2)Air pump MUST run 24 hours a day. Without oxygen in the water, your plants will die.

3) I can;t answer this. i use 5 gallon rubbermaids with 3 inch net pots. I am only growing 2 plants though. The thing to keep in mind is your root mass. You will have ton of root mass with 3-4 plants, so you need to make sure you will have enough water. I think Diggity grows more than 2 plants in his 3 gallons, but I have read you want at least one gallon of water per plant.

Hope that helps!

Swale is right about root size. If you want to grow 4 footers, you have to have plenty of room for the roots.

Not to worry, though. All you need is bigger tubs. In these 3 gallon tubs I was able to grow up to (3) 3-footers at once, but I had to refill the rez almost every day so I cut it back to 2 per tub just to be safe.

If you used something like a 30+ gallon reservoir you could grow maybe 3 4-footers in one of them. But if I were planning on growing trees, I'd switch to the "hempy bucket" method with ebb & flow.
