400W what? CFL MH or HPS. I would go with the MH for veg in this bucket but if you plan to have some big plants your going to want about 5gal res per plant under a HPS. The bigger the res the larger the yeild as long as you use all the propper tools.

5 gal res per plant? sorry i dont know much but then why did he use a 3gal rubbermaid with 3 plants? am i missing something? D:

Lets look a nice setup still kind of new to this so I have a few questions about DWC

On your setup I see you made two holes one towards the top and one on the bottom but I don't understand where you hook up the water pump? The pump goes on the outside right, but where does it hook up to the tubing? I see all the tubing leading into the rubbermaid but no where to connect it to the pump. Sorry if its a stupid question but still new to DWC.

Also how do you know when you have to change the water in res? What are some indicators that tell you its time to put fresh water in?

DWC only requires an air pump, Greenhit. You toss an airstone in the bottom of your resivior and feed tubing to it from an outside air pump. The air provides oxygen to the roots which sit submerged in the water/nutrient mix. When the water gets below the bottom of your net cup or where your roots meet the stalk, you top off the res. Change your water/nutrients every 2 weeks and maintain a daily ph of 5-6.5

Okay 2 Questions. Why did you tie a knot in the water level meter, and the water level should be touching the bottom of the roots correct

The knot was only to keep the hose from being pulled out and was only used at the top of the tub. It is not air-tight so it doesn't impede the rising or falling of the water in the tube.

And yes, in a deep water culture (DWC) system your roots will be in the water, but don't forget your air pumps/stones or your plants will drown from lack of oxygen.

first off great freakin thread. ive been preparing for about a month for my first grow. i have 5 Lowryder2 seeds (fems). just had a few questions.

1. can i grow 5 auto LR2 fems in 1 3gal tub?

2. nutes have nothing to do with amount of plants, solely based on amount of water? i have Flora Nova 2 part system(bloom/grow), with Liquid Koolbloom and pack of the dry Koolboom. also a small bottle of Floralicious Plus. are these nutes good or should i scrap em for something else? havent started growing so i dont mind replacing nutes with diff. stuff.

3. lastly, my seedlings are gonna be started in rapid rooter pellets. when ready to be transferd to DWC, do i need to remove the RR pellet stuff or simply place baby and RR into net pot and cover with clay pebbles?

Thanks again

1. Yes you could grow all five in one three gallon tub, but you would have to go 12/12 from seed. It's not a good idea to do it though. Even at 12/12 from seed it will be very crowded in that tub.

2. Your nutrients are fine. I used GH's nutes as well. Although I used the three part system (FloraGro, FloraMicro, FloraBloom). Koolbloom is good stuff too, it'll give you lots of resin production. I can't comment on fhe Floralicous though.

3. Put down a layer of clay pellets about 1/3 of the way up and then put your rooted pellets on top, then fill them up the rest of the way. Those rooters can have a tendency to stay saturated and rot.

LOL... I just realized you're growing auto LR2! So you'll be doing 18/6 the whole time... disregard comments about 12/12 lighting.

Hope this helps...
