My wife wont allow any guns in the house period.. Ive never owned a gun as I dont really see a need to own one. I cant imagine someone breaking in the house and not being able to handle my buisness with a baseball bat of knife or w/e.. sometimes ppl have there own guns used against them. also if u shoot an intruder and the intruder doesnt have a gun or w/e YOU will most likely get a murder/manslaughter charge.. Its gay but thats how it is..

Just a quick reply to the ammo being kept separate, I only load my guns on the range or when hunting. I have absolutely no need to have a loaded firearm in my house. I know that some people may feel the need or the right to do this but not in my circumstance.

This can make a HUGE difference in court. How accessible the guns are is really what determines the charge. If its locked and loaded and just sitting in a room then your gonna get screwed. If your guns are in gun safes unloaded, and the ammo and mags are in a different lockbox/safe then it would take you at least 2-5 minutes to go into the room and get a gun loaded and ready. Thats definitely not an immediate threat to any officers if they raid you. You just have to make it very clear that you have all your permits, and they are locked up safely.

A lot of people have said they have their guns loaded and ready, and thats fine, thats your choice to make. But Lostinspace, the original poster said he just has firearms for hunting, which is a lot more common and surely doesnt pose a threat to anyone if the person is a responsible gun owner.

Theres a big difference between having firearms for protection/self defence/security and having firearms for recreational use like hunting. The right lawyer will make that very clear in court.

Violent crimes are the worst thing to have on your record if your a gun owner. As long as you dont have a history of violent crimes then chances are you dont have to worry about getting raided or screwed over with firearms charges.

It depends on local laws. But if someone breaks into your house and you shoot them you wont get a murder charge. Obviously it would depend on the circumstances, but if it was obvious that the intruder broke into your home then you wont get charged with murder, you could Easily get off with self defense and wanting to protect your family.

Also shooting a guy doesnt mean they die. You can shoot someone in the legs, arms, just disable them till police arrive.

And people only get their own guns used against them when they are not responsible gun owners, or just dont have enough experience with a firearm. If an intruder has access to your guns then you dont deserve to own a firearm.

Someone who is trained properly and knows how to use a weapon increases safety for everyone. You will save your own ass, and if you know what your doing and take control of the situation you wont have to shoot the intruder, he will be shitting his pants if your yelling at him with your shotgun in his face.

Thiefs and robbers pick on the weak, they think that your an easy target, thats why they are trying to rob you, if you bust out a .45 or a 12 gauge and get aggressive you can easily take control of the situation and scare the shit out of the punk ass thief.

even if someone goes into your home you cannot shoot them unless your life is in danger ( IE - they have a weapon ) or YOU will be the one in the most trouble.. I was reffering to killing someone obviously. Besides, LEO does w/e they want anyway so its a crap shoot either way. I dont think it takes a gun to handle ur buisness. I can fight fairly well and I know how to use a louisville slugger well too lol. If all else fails theres always a butcher knife.. I jsut dont really care for guns.

Yeah, I understand what your saying, if you can do it without a gun, why not.

But if someone has clearly broken into your home, you can shoot him, and if he dies, its his fault. You wont get charged, you might have to go to court, but unless you have a record of violent crimes or are a criminal then they will have absolutely no reason to charge you.

Someone has broken into your home, thats a pretty damn good reason to feel that your life is in danger.

^^^^^ The posts above have good points, if in the unlikely chance I felt the need to draw a weapon on an intruder, I think 2 12ga barrels are gonna do the job loaded or not.

the po lice love to find guns and drugs in the same house.
Well they like to find loaded, illegal guns and drugs in the same house.

But legal guns, not loaded, locked up, with ammo in a separate lockbox/safe. The cops wouldnt even know you have guns unless they know you have permits, or get a warrant to crack your safe. But if your legal just open it up and show them.

A little Cooperation goes a LONG way with police.

i hate to keep dissagreeing w/ you BC but the law is such that you cannot inflict bodily harm in defense of property, PERIOD. YOU WILL GET INTO TROUBLE UNLESS YOUR LIFE IS THREATENED. EVEN IF AN INTRUDER IS IN YOUR HOME.. Im just trying to get the truth out there so ppl know the real deal is all.

The truth is that all states and countries have different laws regarding home invasion and what your legally allowed to do. Where I am, you can retaliate with an equal or lesser weapon ie; if he has a baseball bat you cant blast him with an AR-15. As much as he probably deserves it....

You make it sound like Im saying to sneak up on the guy and blow his head off. And yes, you can inflict harm to defend your property. If I had a kid upstairs I wouldnt let a robber near the stairway. If I needed to shoot him I would.

And whats the difference between using a gun or a baseball bat to defend your property? Both Can kill IF in the wrong hands.

Im not saying shoot someone when they walk in the door. Im also not saying sneak up behind a robber and shoot him. If someone is in your home then your life could be being threatened. Im also not saying to always shoot someone if they are in your home. If you confront the intruder, and he runs away, then your Obviously not going to shoot the guy.

What I am saying is if someone broke into your house, and you confront them and they dont run away, your life is then being threatened, you dont know what they will do next. Give them one firm warning, see how he reacts, if he doesnt take off or you still feel threatened, shoot the bastard in the leg.

Like I said before, depending on the circumstances, if you shoot someone that broke into your house, and they die, Your not going to get charged for murder. Unless you have a criminal record, you wont have a problem beating that in court.

What kind of jury in their right mind would convict someone of Murder for defending themselves or their family when someone broke into their house.

Having any kind of criminal record will screw you over though, if you have any record of previous violent crimes chances are you might get charged.

The fact is the intruder should not be there in the first place, if he gets shot its his dumbass fault for trying to rob you.

sry.. BUT NO you cant. It really sounds like you have no idea what your talking about. NO offense. And yers im sure laws differ from state to state..
Where do you get your information?

If someone kicks down my door what am I suppose to do? Stand there and let him rob me, wait for him to hit me so I can fight back?

Talk to ANY cop in any state, USA or Canada, they will tell you that you have the right to defend yourself.

How could a robber be in your house and your not being threatened?

Maybe your confusing the details. What I have always said is if your home and someone breaks into your home, your life is then being threatened. There is no way a robber could break in while Im home and I would NOT feel threatened. I would do what I have to to defend myself, and my home.

Any judge and jury will support you. Its not like Im going into someone elses house and attacking them.

It depends on the state. In the state I'm in you CAN shoot and kill anyone legally if they even attempt to come in your house if you feel threatened.
