Dude, I'm wondering. . .First off, NOT being insensitive to people w/cancer, just kidding!!!
If you are smoking and growing med mary for cancer, would the additional radiation be beneficial?

FDD, you are okay. CFL's are new enough (to us in the US), that they had to jump through all the political and public safety mandations, just like any other prduct. You are okay, however, due to your extensive skills making tin foil hats, I do believe you may have some issues

hold on.. you guys are worrying about these little itty bitty CFL lights, and how they "can cause radiation" or whatever..

But did you happen to think about what smoking does to your body? and your lungs?

CFLs are all Hype. They are horrible for your health. Why bring more mercury into your home? How many people have broken a CFL, they contain mercury, I wouldnt want that shit being broken in my house. The 43w bulbs burn the mogul base when they are left on too long, it says right on the packaging to not leave them on more then a few hours at a time, the UV can make you sick....CFLs are good for growing weed, compared to standard Fluoros, but IMO thats all they are good for.

How much money do you really save on your power bill after buying $100s worth of CFLs just to save a few watts. Trying turning off the lights when your not using them to save power.

CFLs are just all hype, how many millions of CFLs are being sold now? Theres been recalls on CFLs for starting fires, theres been all kinds of problems with them.

Its all hype, save your money and just turn out the lights. Anyone who is telling you to spend money to save money needs to rethink that a bit. Instead of spending money on new CFLs all the time for your house, you could use some cheap ass old standard incandecent bulbs and turn the lights out when your not using them. You would save a lot more money a lot faster then switching out to CFLs.

Uhh....

How about if your household is awake almost 24/7 needing lights? You can save a lot of money by using CFL's. My kitchen has many incandescent's lighting it up, using about ~500w+ total while they're on. CFL's use a fraction of the wattage incan's do, as you hopefully already know.

I'm not sure if I'd recommend anyone to throw away current incandescent's to replace with CFL's, but I would recommend buying CFL's from now on instead.

Of course there has been more fires from Incandescent, how long have incandescent been around, and how long have CFL been around? Think about that for a minute.....

Im not saying CFLs are all bad. Im just saying its a lot of Hype. Yes, they do have their place. But right on the package of the CFLs it says not to run the lights for long periods of time.....As you hopefully already know.

So how do you run a house 24/7 on CFLs? You cant, Not safely anyway. Unless you turn on a different light every 4 hours then you should invest in some standard Fluorescent tubes and ditch the CFLs if your trying to light a standard house 24/7

Mine even say never use more than 25 lamps on a 20 amp circut ... Its like a warning to growers ... Who else would run 25 bulbs off i circut???

But no warning about burn time???

Im in Canada. I have seen the warning on Sylvania and GE CFLs. I cant speak for all brands, but CFLs are NOT meant to be run for long periods of time, the warning also says not to turn them off then back on right away because it can break down the bulbs faster. If you do a little research you will find lots of info to back that up.

Like I said, CFLs have there place. I have them all over my place. They are just a lot of Hype and are a much bigger hazard then people realize. The mercury alone is enough reason to not want them in your house.

Does anyone here even know the proper method for cleaning up a broken CFL? The EPA offers an 11 STEP procedure to clean up a broken CFL bulb, I doubt Anyone has followed any of these steps or even knows how much of a hazard a broken CFL is.

Then there is the issue of disposing and recycling CFLs....How many people just throw them in the garbage? I doubt anyone here has ever properly disposed of a CFL.

These are the EPA Guidelines for cleaning up a Broken CFL bulb, I suggest anyone who uses them to Please read this. Especially if you have young kids or babies in your home.

Hmm, even with running CFL's for a grow 24/7 I never had problems with them. You're right though, tubes may be better just because it distributes the light more probably, but the problem with that is I would have to re-do everything to add support for CFL tubes. CFL's are good because they work in a normal light socket, and are still efficient. It wouldn't be truly lighting the house 24/7, but they will be used all through a 24 hour period with breaks here and there, daily. So it could handle that.

I run twenty and i switch out ten more i keep them in the box when not in use i have never broken 1 but the cleanup procedure is pretty intense! Be safe everyone dont linger in the grow room anymore ~...
